And I gotta say, it looks pretty neat. I'd certainly give it a play.

Of course it's likely going to get shut down right, quick, and in a hurry. Still though, it looks like it could actually be fun (if you like those types of games).

Personally, though, I think if you're going to make a game like this then you should develop it in total...ABSOLUTE secrecy. No screenshots...no demos...no videos...absolutely nothing. Just you and your group working on it until you're ready to launch it, toss it up on the internet and say "HAVE AT IT YOU DOGS!" and let it go as long as it can before getting shut down. Releasing videos and screenshots and such just gives the company that actually owns the IP plenty of time to shut down your project before you can even finish it. :p

Anywho, what do you, my fellow Escapists, think of this (possible) game? Would you be interested in playing FF7 if it were a side-scrolling beat'em'up?

Edit:
It should be noted that, at least according to the linked article, the game is being made as a non-profit project.

Squeenix will probably wait until the bitter end to issue a Cease and Desist.
Sadly, that's usually how these things work.

As long as it gets a mostly finished version before it gets bludgeoned to death. Things like this always remind me of the Streets of Rage remake and how Sega are just complete dicks. Thankfully SoRRv5 is absolutely playable and is great. Here's hoping.

Undecided on its quality but then again if its free I have no complaints and I do love FF7. I would expect it to get shut down near the end of development but if it is good maybe Square Enix will see sense and let it slide as it would be good PR for them and possibly help drum up even more interest for the remake. Then again their are also other factors such as laws that can effect their decisions.

I hope it gets finished anyway and is fun always want the best for people who make something just out of passion and seek no monetary reward even if I dont like what they make I admire what they have done. So if that is the case here as it appears to be then good luck to em.

Awesome, I thought it was going to be a shitty retro platformer with a pixel artstyle.

The question I have for it is, why make it a FF7 tribute game? It looks like if it had original visuals it could stand on its own feet. I understand that the creator(s) love FF7, that's why they made this, but with the risk of being shut down I don't think it was a good idea to go with this route.

that was my first thought as well, the sigh I let out was of relief when I opened the page, thank god.

I'm not really interested in this game, I much prefer the turn based rpg it is, but hopefully people who want this can get there hands on it.
