Or maybe they needed a stronger substance because they had become so used to taking Marijuana?
Just because one person suffers strong mental imbalances from Marijuana doesn't mean another is going to feel the same way. As I said, it CAN cause harmful long term effects and it has. It's the same with smoking a standard cigarette, once your body adjusts to the dosage it starts to crave something much stronger. I generally don't have a problem with the occasional user, but I'm talking about people who smoke this shit 24/7.
Once again, the fact that marijuana affects different people differently indicates that there is more going on than just the marijuana use, and points more towards underlying psychological and physiological differences. For instance, the fact that some people have what is known in psychology as "addictive personalities" which make them more likely to abuse drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex, etc, as well as people who are prone to be risk takers, who are more prone to do drugs and engage in activities that could likely lead to bodily harm, such as extreme sports, car surfing, etc. If the cause was actually the marijuana itself, there would be a conclusive link that would allow people to say "most likely, if you smoke marijuana, this will happen," just like the conclusive link between tobacco use and cancer, but even by your own admission, these effects are only shown in some, not the majority of users.
