Okay so I was just watching tv, and this poped up... and well what can I say? I had to share this.

Can this actually help a real smoker? I don't think most people do it for the look. In fact it seems kinda stupid in my opinion.

So....in short, its just a nicotine patch that you can blow smoke from. Why on earth would anyone ever wanna buy one of those? The main reason may be so you could "smoke" in places where you normally can't smoke, but you'll get so many people coming up to you telling you to turn it off that it won't even be worth it. If people wanna quit, they can just get the patch or quit in another way. Its cheaper and it won't attract as much attention or be as annoying.

These E-cigs are surprisingly effective aids for quitting smoking. A lot of the addiction is in the ritual of lighting up, and that's where these prove to be superior to nicotine patches.

No, everyone should be forced to dance!

OT: The title of the thread made me think of Woody Allen's Sleeper. I had expected some miracle discovery that smoking had no negative effects.

I don't believe in easy answers, especially not ones given by TV adds.

Not to mention it can help slowly ween you from the act of actually putting the cigarette to your mouth, one of the big habits that smokers need to break.

its a nicorette patch that works on the psychological level. Its more designed to help people who wnat to quit, rather then be a substitution.

I know a few people that used this. they wanted to quit, and it helped. some of them.

Why not just use marijuana to quit smoking?

Oh wait, that would be logical and the US government HATES logic.

Okay for one claiming there are no toxic chemical emissions is clearly bullshit if you can see the gas - clearly thicker than air so constant exposure must have an effect

$150 for the thing and having to pay for batteries and refill cartridges and chances are you're going to lose a few of those things over the years.

They used all actors to advertise it, not street trials - that right there shows there's something more to it

And again there's still the puffing of whatever that gas is into the air which annoys a lot of people

I'll admit I hate smoking and would like to see it gone - but this thing is far too convenient to be true

Help people stop smoking by letting them smoke anywhere. Right.

At least I won't have to breath all that disgusting air real cigarettes make.

It's done because the physical addiction to smoking is actually not the biggest reason can't quit. After about a week or so, your no longer physically addicted to nicotine, but you still have a psychological dependence. These fake cigarettes help people quit smoking because it gives them something that specifically targets the psychological by allowing you to "smoke." Problem is, it doesn't end the addiction, it juts makes it safe.

If this product is what i think it is, the "smoke" is mostly steam, and disipates almost immediately. Kinda like a humidifier.

This is hilarious, especially the guy smoking it at the restaurant. The waitress tells him to put it out and he's like, "*****, please. Can't you see this ain't realy? Now let me enjoy my salad."

What's the point of of this!? If you want to use some sort of inhaling device, use this:

It's a lot less corny. I mean, you can't even look cool with this thing. The red LED on the tip..? Seriously?

I have no personal experience in dealing with TV ads and the products they show, save for having to watch them in between watching the programs I'm interested in. However I'm pretty sure that when the following words are ever used, they arent actually true...

Free

and...

Easy

Also, you could, you know, just not smoke in high school cause you want to get in with the cool kids.

Quit smoking...with smoking! GENIOUS!!

Seriously, if you're going to talk about a lack of logic, do it without a joint in hand.

You don't know many smokers, do you? The simple act of taking a puff from a smoke has a huge psychological effect for a lot of smokers. Some people can quit with just the help of patches, but others can't simply because the patches work in an entirely different to the way a cigarette is smoked. These things provide an option for people who the patches don't work on.

The main reason may be so you could "smoke" in places where you normally can't smoke, but you'll get so many people coming up to you telling you to turn it off that it won't even be worth it.
They're not harming anyone, so someone who comes up and has a whinge about it should be given a blank stare followed by "Fuck off". Not to mention the main reason is not so a smoker can do it in places where smokes aren't allowed, it's so they can be slowly weened off their dependence on nicotine, with a product that contains none of the hazards regularly associated with cigarettes.

If people wanna quit, they can just get the patch or quit in another way. Its cheaper and it won't attract as much attention or be as annoying.
The patch doesn't work for everyone, and neither do all the other ways to quit. I know smokers who quit 5 years ago and haven't had a smoke since then that still get the urge to raise something to their lips when they're around smokers. They won't take up smoking again, but it's still there. Breaking a dependency doesn't mean the urge entirely goes away.
