I like them in single player, but in multiplayer I roll assualt rifles.

In games with weird looking muzzle flash/annoying gunfire I go shank shank shank to the top of the leaderboards.

I snipe only when I'm pissed off want a bunch of cheap kills that aren't explosion related.

People like sniping because its easy. One-shot-one-kill rifle, massive distance, little threat of retaliation.

After all, why play with the team when you can play for yourself?

I like the hiding in a good spot that's involved, the feel of expertise when you headshot someone (not saying I'm an expert, but headshots certainly make you feel like you are one), and most of all, sniper battles. Getting sniped, seeing where the bullet came from then trying to be as still and quiet as possible, keeping your eyes peeled knowing the other guy's doing the exact same.

This pretty much sums up the problem with Recon class in Bad Company 2.

It's balanced well by the game but unfortunately most players seem to think they're still playing Team Deathmatch in COD.

Hey guys, I was wondering...
One thing that always bothers me is that about 70% of gamers will go into a shooter and immediately pick the sniper rifles. Every single goddamn time. I really don't understand this as I can't see how something as slow-paced as sitting back and picking off enemies one-by-one from a mile away can be very much fun. So to those of you who use the snipers, what on Earth is so damn appealing about them?
Thanks
im very good with them, im not the sniper really who sits back in single spot the whole game, unless my team is being hammered upon then im forced to, otherwise i switch spots after every couple kills, its much more accurate, and i generally choose the sniper that is weak but fast and accurate, so it usually requires double shots to take somebody down, this method seems to get me mvp just about every game/other game i play, so why not use it? it has nothing to do with cheapness or overpoweredness at all, like i said it takes at least 2 shots usually, unless i get a perfect headshot

im perfectly open for arguements, as ill back up my opinion, as to why its not over powered, and that i do help my team out by usually calling out where someone is making a run for if i didn't get them, and i have saved a few of my teammates asses by having them make a run for their spawn and i watched the spawn door in which they would have been drilled had i not been watching it

Sniperism allows you to pick out targets, follow them, find out their patterns, and pick them off. Sniper duels are even more fun, and can be short, snappy exchanges of fire or long, drawn out battles of attrition.
and this, if i did happen to shoot your ass, why are you being a dumbass and running back to the same area? im probably watching that area somewhat while checking out a few other parts in my scope, so use something called INTUITION and go around by cover and sneak up on my ass, if you didn't have to worry about running out in the open then everyone would be the duel wielding shotty faggots runnning like usain bolt everywhere

its a perfectly legitamate class that has been here since the beginning of war games

I always thought id be cool to have an fps focused mainly on sniping/stealth

with HUGE maps
kind of like a Predator fps but with more guns/conventional weapons

My beef with sniping isn't so much that it doesn't have a place or isn't fun, so much as many sniping weapons take game balance outside and give it the Ol' Yeller treatment. There is no effective strategy to deal with snipers in most game except snipers. Trying to stealth NPC snipers is one thing, but most player models stick out like a sore thumb.

The only game where I don't mind the sniping so much is Half-Life 2 Deathmatch because Valve actualy seems to have understood that and balanced that out somewhat: the crossbow isn't a sure-hit one hit kill as in say, Counterstrike 1.6 or the Call of Duty and Battlefield games and their myriad lookalikes.

I don't use them because I have a sense of honor when I play a multiplayer game. Getting sniped sucks. I hate it and I know alot of other people do too. I don't want to do to others something that immensely pisses me off when done to me. Also, I'm a team player. I love to work with my teammates and win. Sniping contributes nothing to the team, which is why it fucks over so many Bad Company 2 matches. If the game requires a team effort to attack and seize an objective, having 8 of 12 people sitting in the mountains at out spawn ruins the fun. Snipers only help themselves.
I do notice a trend of people playing snipers tending to be those that do not contribute to a team. In some games this matters and in others it does not, however it is a bit misguided to blame the game for the selfish tenancies of some of its players, I think.

They are slow, bulky and make ALLOT of noise... and people tend to die fast like fuck when shot by one.

It's a more sophisticated way of killing that going in guns blazing like you wore f****** Rambo or something.
killing is never sophisticated it will always be dirty and hard that is why snipers keep their distance in a ghillie suit
Note the more sophisticated than part, I didn't say that is was entirely sophisticated.

no go die in a corner and let me hit top of the leader boards for the tenth time in a row (joking i dont hate snipers they are quite fun but with fag guns like barret .50 with thermal its hard to not get pissed off) i use the intervention with normal sight and silencer scavenger pro stopping power pro and steady aim pro c4 for ambushes
I personally find the Model 82 far less cheap than the damn Intervention, which somehow deals more damage. Intervention with Thermal is the most irritating combo ever, and it's only worse when the noob using it sports a retarded bright red or blue "camo". Thermal, in general, is one of the most irritating attachments, after noob tubes.

Well I like to hunt snipers with a rocket launcher, specially in BC2. Also, never liked snipers or sniping, I prefer to get in there and get the job done, plus, killing up close means you get to see more blood XD J/k, no but really, in something like BC2 (about all I play now) snipers are just an annoyance, even if they kill you they're not really achieving anything, I still win because while they sat on the hill for 20 minutes I've racked up twice as many kills and taken all of the objectives.

Great for defence, overlook on a Mcom station with C4 or a mortor strike.

The feeling I get from shooting multiple dudes with one Barrett shot is worth the wait.
Also, if there were no snipers, who would I sneak up behind, and then toy with before I kill them?

in the millitary, the sniper is the mos hated enemy of all time, but in games, the one who is hated is the 7 year old who dosent know how to play, and just steals the sniper. most people like the sniper because they "THINK" there good, but sniping in most games is one of the easiest thing to do. plus the fact that it promotes camping, and that is very annoying but useful. useful on the fact that most people who just start camping stay in the same spot, so after they kill you, you can always find them faster. srry for the ramblings.

I love sniping (see the name)! Why? Because it's different I suppose. All the Team deathmatchs I play in, everyone always grabs a machine gun and runs straight off to kill--or in most cases--be killed. I tend to look at my death count more than my kill count. If the team I'm on actually works like a team, then it's more fun to run with them, but that's rarely the case. Plus, having someone with a vantage point calling out enemy position is just fun.

People who complain that snipers camp, I have a question for you: What do you want us to do? We have a single shot weapon that has no accuracy when fired from the hip and you have a SMG/Shotgun/Rocket launcher that works just fine for running and gunning. You honestly expect a sniper to run around the middle of a firefight the way you do? It's that type of thinking that lets us get four or five kills on you before you realize maybe you should find a different route to the position. I must admit, there's a certain joy in dropping the same person over and over because they keep going to the same spot trying to spot me. The words they must be yelling at the screen...

In MW2 it goes:

Assault Rifle
SMGers
Snipers

LMGers.

I don't know why, but LMGers are pretty rare (in sabotage on the pc at least)

The power to instantly kill your enemies over great distances is a fun to be had yourself. Mostly, people grab snipers under the assumption that they can "Pwn" with them while people with the real skill pick it off the guy's dead body.
