The UK are pretty silly when it comes to anything really. It doesn't matter if it's snow, VAT, X-factor finalists - whatever. The slightest change of anything in our routine will cause the majority of people to panic unnecessarily, and complain when it's back to normal too.

It's really just a natural reaction to the climate of fear that's been developing over the last 2 decades.

Britain sucks, can't wait to get outta here.
Unfortunately its hard to avoid that anywhere you go. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of canadians caught completely off guard by the first snow. And here, they REALLY have no excuse. Unless they just moved here. Most of it is people not thinking. Thats all over.

No offense, but you Brits have no idea what snow is. You get a dusting and the whole country shuts down. Try living in New England during nor'easter season, where getting 18 inches overnight is par for the course.
Yeah I used to live in Alaska. We kept all our snow gear, so we're okay, but the problem is with the roads and such. Because we don't get heavy snow every year we don't have snow plough trucks coming around and have to make do with public grit boxes.

And since we don't get it every year, you get some daft people driving around with 4 inches of snow on their car roofs.

Congratulations on noticing this, our stereotypical national image! I have to say, if that's really what people are like in your area, that really sucks. I live in the South West, and as of now, we're pretty upbeat. Compared to last year we've got no snow and very little ice to speak of, no one I know can be bothered to watch, talk about of in any way acknowledge reality tv and we're still falling ass over tit to spend money at the shiny new pier we've been presented with. It's a rather effective distraction by all counts.

It's almost disturbing how positive this town is this winter. Snow? What snow?
While I'd like to say that I might be exaggerating, based after todays reactions at work, I'd be lying.

2 out of 3 people came in today and complained needlessly about the snow, then deliveries about the snow, followed by why they can't walk to the shop in their pajamas because they're cold.

I hate people in Salford sometimes lol Why couldn't they just buy their games without telling me about it?

The stereotype is well earned from where I sit - I don't endorse, promote or even condone it but it's the way most people I meet in a shop are.

It is Brilliant because it got me a few days off School and away from my Bitchy Teachers.

It's shit because I have no Tolerance for the Cold, and it decided to all fuck off and melt today, so no chance of a Day off School tomorrow when my Graphics tablet arrives.

I've always wanted to go to Canada personally, but I've never quite gotten round to it.
The problem over here is lack of foresight on the authority's part, and lack of common sense everywhere else. I imagine this is a problem worldwide, but I can't imagine Finland or Canada to be quite so dramatic about this sort of thing.

It's pretty much gone over here so I'm pretty annoyed that I don't get out of school, like everyone else.

Not true, we know what snow is. We're just never equipped for it because it's hardly ever more than an actual dusting over here. This is a lot of snow in comparison to what we normally get, that is why everything shuts down. Because we're not used to it.

Got a thin layer which quickly got turned into ice, which means walking is more of an extreme sport than a thing to relax.

Yeah, unfortunately, if the government dared spend money on making sure we were prepared for snow they'd be lynched for wasting millions on something that happens about 1% of the time.

However, they're still blamed for not doing anything when snow pretty much shuts down the country. Not that I defend the government often, but its one of those unwinnable situations.

Every year people bang on about the snow as if we never get it. We are in a temperate zone, meaning it will fucking snow in the winter. :O

I'm in Leeds and we had massive amounts of snow for a few days last week, but nothing since. On Tuesday evening, I was the only person in my section at work to make it in through the snow, aside from the manager. Ironically this was because there was almost zero traffic because of the snow, so the bus I was on made it through quickly, while everyone else was stuck because of the snow. Usually I'm late because of bad traffic and buses and everyone else is on time...

Anyway, it's all starting to melt now (which disappoints me, as I love the snow). Though I did do my fair share of having to help push people's cars out of the snow during last week... :p

Still plenty around my area, although it's mainly of the icy, fall on your backside/face variety.

Nearly slipped on the way to and from school four times today. >_<

I used to love snow, but now I hate it. It affects travel, meaning trains delayed/cancelled, dangerous roads, planes grounded. It's a mess, and makes it hard for me to visit my gf who lives 120miles east of me.
