Eh, it's also not unknown for spectators to try to blind the players with lasers.

Does anyone else know of anything crazy or weird being thrown during sports games? I wonder what could be thrown during a bowling match...
Ice hockey games, dead sea creatures and road kill.

Google it, I'm not linking.

Also, people have a habit of running onto the track in Formula 1, not thrown as such, but equally odd.

A lot of violence between football supporters has an political edge and reflects a wider division in society. Take a Rangers-Celtic match, which normally has 1 murder attributable to rival supporters. Rangers is a protestant team and Celtic is a Catholic team. In Italy is normally a right left split Inter and Lazio being right wing and Uvea and Roma being on the left. In spain support tends to split down on provincial lines e.g Basque/Galicia/Catalan.

And here was me wondering why there is this consistent flow of middle eastern and African immigrants with families and such coming here to work for minimum wage. They must enjoy the heady smell of danger and oppression.

Goddamn football violence. I went to a Leeds-Sheffield game the other day, & someone ran onto the pitch & hit the goalie. One of the worst things is that they give a bad name to all the supporters on that side, when in reality, the majority aren't violent.

Honestly, how often do you hear of people shooting up professional sporting events in the United States? Despite my countries many numerous mistakes, and the horrible things we (meaning they) consider popular culture, and the fact that no one in this country seems to give a damn about anyone but themselves, I think we get painted in an unfair light on the global stage at times.

OT: People take sporting events (and everything now that I think about it) entirely too seriously. So what if your team isn't doing so hot or another team is your rival, there is no need for violence EVER. Some witty remarks and a little verbal bashing (in good humor, of course) should be the end of it.

still pretty scary he got it IN THE STADIUM
That's exactly what I was thinking. I've worked in several major stadiums around the UK and from my experience the security measures are pretty rigorous. Even as a staff members we go through airport like security, I once got asked to try my lipstick on my hand to prove I wasn't going to poison anyone with it!

edited due to inacurate statement.

here is a similar incident in Iran
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOk4eUirp1U&feature=youtube_gdata_player

seriously these people are nuts! if you want to fight go become a boxer!!!

not doing my fave sport any favours but some inter Milan fans managed to get a scooter into a ground once!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_Nu6HKVSmk&feature=youtube_gdata_player

in our defense I'd like to say that these people are like extremists and in my opinion not true football supporters.
a real supporter goes to watch and support their team come win lose or draw and although a bit of banter is ok, ALWAYS show respect and class towards the opposition.
turning up to a game with the single purpose of hurting somebody because of which team they support or play for is NOT ok and we don't want these people having anything to do with our clubs.

Otherwise who the hell were all those fans at the European matches? Did they dress up the home crowd in England shirts just for a laugh?
You get half price tickets if you're willing to wear an England shirt for the duration of the match.
So that's their cunning plan eh? Sneaky foreigners, we should all go over there and beat them up, maybe at some sort of sporting event.

I loved the way the players went down in the usual theatrical manner. Same thing happened at the weekend when a goalkeeper was pushed (yes, pushed) in the face. He went down like he'd been shot and rolled around loads too!

No, it's not a good thing that someone decided to throw a banger onto the pitch. But as per usual, the players reactions were hilarious........it's like it suddenly becomes a 'who's most injured' contest!!

Seeing as I'm not English, I have no stake in it, but you go ahead... you'll be able to tell who the sneaky foreigners are, they'll be the ones in England shirts.

So you're foreign eh? How would you like a ticket to see England at their next world cup qualifier? Also, are there any places you particularly don't like being hit?

"Talking of sex crime, on to the football"

Sorry, couldn't resist. I've always hated professional football, it creates more problems than it solves, it has the worst fanbase of any pro sport (Aside from maybe hockey) and lets face it, a man who gets payed to kick a bit of leather round a pitch making more than a doctor is not a good thing.

That said, I would not expect or condone this sort of thing, especially from someone who was probaly there because they DO enjoy football. It makes no sense. It's like me chucking a hand grenade at a game store. Although it was only a flashbang, I don't know where this whole "Bomb" thing came from...

That wasn't anywhere near a flashbang. Large banger maybe, but definitely not a flashbang.

All I saw as a result of it was more of this shit...

Watch the 'bomb' video again. Note the reactions which include clutching of faces, rolling around, trying to look more injured than the next guy, and making a big fucking meal out of a small incident.

God I fucking hate footballers. They're embarrassing!

Not really, I've got better things to do than watch a bunch of overpaid primadonnas flounce around a football pitch.

I sincerely can't tell if you're being genuine in this opinion...

Look at two of the guys who went down in the video; don't worry, I'll wait here...watch it? Good.

Look at the four main guys who are hurt: one white shirt, one red/black, one black, and one blue...do I need to point out the obvious here? If you're being serious with your comment, I think I do (if you are being silly, disregard).

The black shirt is the ref (granted, this is an assumption but black is the usual color for refs; he's definitely not a player) and the blue shirt is a medical staffer. For what reason would these two have to play in your "Who's most injured!" contest?
