Suppressors don't do crap. They change the gunshot from deafening to slightly louder than a dragonforce concert. It's not just a little "pshew" like in the movies.

The goal of a silencer/suppressor is to suppress the noise of firing, the use of silencer is misleading but in a pure technical sense of how a high quality suppressor works it does "silence" just not the way movies portray it. In an urban or deep forrest environment it makes it hard to pinpoint where the shot is being fired from which is what the suppressor is meant to do.

Now low quality suppressors can actually make the noise louder, completely defeating the purpose.

Well probably in a 4-5 diameter of me there are many things to beat a zombie down with like:

A old CRT monitor, a 19" HD monitor, a printer, a glass skull, a glass soccer ball, a computer tower, a Xbox 360, a X-Rocker gaming chair thing, or a 19" HD TV I use for gaming..I'm sure I could go dual 19" inch monitor/tv and own its ass somehow..

I have a composite steel knife sitting within arms reach in my dresser. It's sharpened, and I happen to know where to put it. That zombie is fucked, s/he just doesn't know it yet (they don't really know much about anything, come to think of it).

I've got a lot of pencils near me right now...Of course odds are I wouldn't be immune to the virus that created said zombie, so killing it would probably end my life as we know it, but I could do humanity a favor by taking out the zombie that infected me at least.

I would highly suggest you re-read the gun section of that book, if you're using a shotgun.

A lamp

If I could move a few metres I could also reach my keyboard, my air rifle, my LARP sword or a small but heavy fridge...I think I'm going to survive.
