I have heard fantastic things through word of mouth about this game, bieng the "best game of the year" etc. etc. But Game Informer bashes it pretty hard. I have not played it myself and want to know more before spending my hard earned cash on it. Escapist forum users...tell me more.

The game is fun, but definitely not a Game of The Year contender, especially if some of the triple A titles like God of War 3 and Brutal Legend turn out to be as good as they look.

This. Although, if you want to buy a game that lasts long, get Prototype. With the New Game+ mode, you'll have incredible replayability, even if you just get on to brutally murder some civilians. You can do the campaign again, too, with all of your powers, and it is always fun. I recommend this game if you want a long lasting sandbox adventure that involves lots of brutality and excitement.

its good, wonderfully psychotic. but their are some wierldy hard parts that take a lot of tedious running back and fourth to go eat people to get health and going back to loose it.

If you like hack-&-slash style gameplay where you're the ultimate badass, and if you don't like to think, you'll enjoy this game.

I loved it for the most part, the controls are generally easy to use although there are some button combinations that take some getting used to (for the Xbox 360 anyway) and it's an all around fun game. I didn't find the main game to be all that challenging playing on Normal mode.

My main gripe with it was the targetting system, I personally found that if the camera wasn't dead on facing the enemy you want to target it would target somebody directly in front of you who could be far away enemy or not.

The most important thing with it was that it was just fun which is something I've found to be lacking in a lot of recent games.

I'd definitely recommend it.

I think the influence of Hulk Ultimate Destruction was one of it's biggest flaws. Like Hulk the story was lost and convoluted, the character is unlikable, the combat is monotonous and the landscape is boring.

I eagerly awaited Prototype and I honestly have to say that it was my biggest disappointment since Fable 2.
And just like Fable 2, they had these weird delusions of grandeur because they had good concepts, but bad execution.

With the New Game+ mode, you'll have incredible replayability

Of course, you only get that when you've completed the campaign once. Once you've done that you know the story. So unless you don't mind having the same story thrown at you, or you didn't manage to unlock everything first time around, it's not all that great. Of course, if you don't mind either of those things, it's quite replayable; however, I wouldn't cite that as one of it's defining features.

It is extremely fun and a great way to relieve stress. The twist in the story was also awesome and came out of no where. The parkour is wonderful and the powers are awesome. The game also has thermobaric tanks. I also thought that the graphics were pretty good. Its not really a game of the year title but it is worth it.

I didn't expect an award winning story, and besides your sister that seems to know everything, it was competent enough for a no brainer of a game. The character was flat, yes, but like I said, the game doesn't seem to revolve around such things, it's more an excuse to kill everyone.

I consider this to be the summer blockbuster of the gaming world. Combat was fun, you don't really have to think a great deal. And that game probably won't be full price still, so worth it in my eyes. Your standards seemed a bit too high from where I'm sitting.

EDIT: And I don't particularly like Penny Arcade, and think it gets shamelessly plastered on here a bit too often, this one pretty much sums it up:

Yes, but since it resets the level of infected and the amount of military deployment, it allows you to do more massacring. What I did was beat the game, and then work on all of the side quests, and the web of intrigue in the New Game+, with the occasional city wide destruction.

I think my opinion was fairly swayed by the monotony of the gameplay.
I'm a critical gamer, granted, but I still feel that it's more of a rental when there's so many much more engaging titles out there. I don't own a PS3 but I found INfamous so much more compelling, and while I'm in no way saying that prototype is a BAD game it just feels a little unfinished.

I like hearing everyones opinions though and thanks for sharing.

It's not game of the year material. But it's good wholesome violence, with a lot of very stylish moves. The parkour is fun, it's a very visceral experience. Get it.
