I'm not a total closet nerd, I mean I think people know I'm into "nerd stuff" but I am probably a lot more into it than some of them think, I kinda downplay my nerdiness, I AM A TRAITOR TO MY PEOPLE!!! WHY?!?!

Dude, you're posting that you might be a nerd on a site dedicated to gaming and a gaming lifestlye. You proudly display your badge of victory in the Dance Dance Kitty Revolution. I don't think you're still in the closet, man, not with that list of worthy activities. You might be into military strategy and tactics, or just enjoy a good shooter, judging by what you've been playing recently in your profile, but you've still got the nerd cred, man. The concept of jock v. nerd from the '70s is dying, man. Hollywood may not have caught up entirely, but culture has. Enjoy yourself. It's worth it.

I accept that I'm a nerd with open arms but not many people know I do the things I listed the funniest is the anime thing haha I tell people and get this responce "You watch that stuff?"
And what's your response? Do you coyly admit it? Brazenly say outright how certain shows should be heralded as classics? Give a muttered response of "yeah, some of it's pretty good, I guess"? (I'm genuinely curious, no matter the tone of my text.) I'd say spread the knowledge, you might find whole new circles to interact with.

I usualy discuss it with most people, except for certain people who are so hard headed you cant get through to them. I talked for like a half hour today with a girl I've never seen during lunch today about Black Lagoon.

Well done, then. Knowing who to tell about your amazing double life is half the battle. And finding girls you've never seen before and talking to them about it is the other half.

Heh, at my university there's almost no one who isn't a nerd; it's something like 70% engineers and another 10-15% Computer Science Majors.

(I'm part of our small but highly regarded game design major)

It's not like its a huge secret. I openly admit to it but only to my friends who are at my house alot or vice versa. I the people who dont know me very well wouldent have a clue if I didnt wear Star wars, Dragon Ball Z, and Fallout T-shirts underneath my Letterman Jacket

Nope, been a fully fledged geek of all trades since about 1996. I don't try to hide it, but neither do I flaunt it. People are occasionally surprised at some of the things I'm interested in, but only because I met them through some other, traditionally unrelated interest. I may be the only soldier ever to start up a Star Wars D20 campaign with his bored and bemused fellows in the field.

Yep, but mostly only because I have never been able to find nerd friends. All my friends aren't into anything I'm into so we do things they like...which aren't at all nerdy. The end result is me being something of a closet nerd.

That'll change once I track down some other nerds and befriend them.

I have 4 varsity letters on the swim team but my nerd-dom was pretty apparent. Just playing games and enjoying Star Wars doesn't really make you a nerd. You have to score pretty well in math and be pretty competent with computers ideally in a programming sense. It varies but something like that.
soo "geek" then? the interests without the acedemic side of things?

then again some peopel define Nerd as having an extensive knowelge in somthing, Like I would be a gaming nerd since I know ALOT about games (well not that much but just for the example)

ot a music critic might be a music nerd..because of their knowelge in music

I usually call myself a geek since I ain't got all that fancy book lern'in

Haha, yeah. I was already making it sound like they had no choice in the matter. xD

But yeah. Nerd friends. Where are they? Probably not outside where we can find them. :(

I don't have a need to hide my nerdiness at my school because everyone uses laptops, and of course, people need some fun games to kill time during class. I'm fairly popular as it is but I gather quite a few favors from people just by instructing them on how to download some games from steam or install some emulators. I'm also the one that sets up servers for Minecraft and other freeware multiplayer games. So pretty much, I don't have to "closet my nerd", at least not gaming wise. But if anyone found out I'm into anime it wouldn't be good.

Im not. Im just me. When I was at school I didn't do anything excessively nerdy like play Yugioh. I didn't really talk much about what I did outside of school. Though my friends knew what my hobbies were. Most people didn't know. It wasn't a fact I was trying to hide it more the fact that Im shy.

I used to be. Outing myself as a nerd was the best thing ever- I finally feel like I belong, and I met my best friends through nerdness (a dorky kid's cartoon fansite). My mom was reluctant, as games/manga don't really contribute to my future or "have any purpose", but she's accepted me. I do, however, have a friend who is a closeted nerd. She was head cheerleader at her high school and is now a member of her college spirit squad. No one knows she's a nerd, poor thing. She loves games, cartoons and even writes fanfiction, but is afraid to tell anyone. Wish she'd come out.

why would anyone want to hide that. Now days aren't we kind of our own little jock team? People are really starting to fall in love with the whole geek/nerd personality.

While I'm not "loud and proud" about my nerd nature, I make no active efforts to conceal it.
I'm this.

I don't go on about it, but I don't hide it either. If someone mentions a game I'm playing etc. I'll perk up and join in the conversation. Much to everyone's surprise, because, "OH, ura gurl herpy derpy"

No, I don't discuss my gaming habits and interests, but no less than I do my music and television habits either. My friends know I game because I do so with them, but I don't make any effort to "hide" it, and so I don't consider myself to be in any closet.
