So apparently Edge magazine gave The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings 06/10

Before anyone starts crying about people having different opinions, I just want to say that I respect a contrasting opinion. But this right here is just stupid. Having played this game for only 20 mins at a friends house halfway through the story I can honestly say its amazing. Every other magazine/reviewer has given this game amazing scores. Barack Obama recieved this game as a gift and yet this Edge gave it a 06/10. I now officially know that they are just a buch of Nintendo and X-box nerds.

Here is a prediction of their scores for upcoming games

The next Mario game - (10/10)
Halo 4-(9/10)
Gears 3-(9/10)
Uncharted 3-(09/10)
Resistance 3-(04/10)
Anything Nintendo-(x>8/10)
Next Metal Gear-(09/10)-Because it's not a PS3 exclusive anymore. If it was then (07/10)

Yeah, I went that extra mile on this one.

Before anyone bitches about me being biased I should say that I have all the next gen consoles so I dont actually need to be a fanboy.

Witcher 2 fans seem to care more about review scores than anyone else...

And? Jim Sterling gave it a 6/10. Greg Tito gave it a 3.5/5.

If you respect a contrasting opinion, why'd you make the thread to complain about a score?

It's a fine game, but there is a few niggling things that seem to be lost in the translation from Polish to English. Nothing game breaking, just obscure.

yer its their opinion. People also work their scores in different ways.
Destructoid gave the same score and their score is based on widespread appeal, which in my books is far, much of the game is trial and error and unrelenting, so many will have issues with it.

Well, that really depends on what a 6/10 means to Edge Magazine.

Does that mean an above-average game or an exceptional one with deep flaws and a more niche appeal? Because if it does that'd be a valid point of view I'd think, having completed the game myself.

And I should care why ?
I already asked this and I will again, do we seriously listen to reviewers and take what they say to heart? I certainly don't.

You played it for 20 minutes and are suddenly more qualified to review the game than a reviewer who played through it?

Why don't you stay quiet until you've actually played a significant portion of the game in question?

You kinda suck man...

I honest dont give a crat about this game. I just said it was actually very good. My problem is that a "respected" games magazine is so biased.

Well I haven't played, but it sounds like the game takes to much pride in having complicated controls and that's something that can really get in the way of a game. Maybe the critic just didn't want to play along with controls' superiority complex.

Happens with every single game that is generally rated high. Can remember the same thing happening with Mass Effect 2.

The game has its faults, so I can't blame anyone for not getting past them. I do, however, get pissed at utter mediocrity being rated 9's and 10's. And that applies to every single big review website.
I don't remember that with Mass Effect 2, nor any really highly rated game as long as I've been active here. I've seen separate threads dedicated to at least three less sparkling reviews (they weren't even bad reviews. A seven from Destructoid is a good score) on The Witcher 2. And they all mainly talk about the score and not what the reviewer actually says.

*remembers playing Witcher 2*

Yup, 6/10 sounds about right. Maybe 7/10 for the prettiness.

you don't seem to understand what bias is. :\

bias is making a mistake by basing something off pre-evidence opinions and beliefs, and not the evidence at hand.

the Witcher is heavily flawed, the evidence is the crappy controls, the terrible execution and the mind numbing repetition the game feels like it has going.

If they're just going to pan every single game that did well at most magazines then they are just hipsters. I understand what you mean by average games getting 9's and 10's but Metal Gear solid 4 was not mediocre at all and yet they gave it a low score. It was what most would call "the perfect game" yet they critized it for unoriginality.

Allow me to quote yahtzee here. "It's worth remembering that all game reviews are subjective personal opinions and if you personally enjoyed a game they really shouldn't get to you... unless of course there's a despicable little niggling doubt in the back of your mind that maybe you're not having as much fun as you've convinced yourself you're having, which doesn't go away no matter how many times you try to slap it down with the wet flannel of weak excuses like this one."
