But yea, it seems as though this kid needs to sort out his priorities.

Call me old school but, I'm still trying to find a means by which to learn Twi-Lek...and Mandalorian although, since they are a collective of different species, they may not have a native language [anymore]
There is a Twi'lek language? I know one can learn Mandalorian, there are enough sites out there, but I've never heard about Twi'lek...
To say it in half-Vulcan: Fascinating.

And I find Mandalorian interesting too, but there has been created a whole EU for a long time. Similar thing with Elvish, Tolkien actually made up like half a dictionary for that. Now speaking a language that has been featured in one film seems a bit strange, but let them have their fun, won't stay long probably.

Ironically he is the guy with thre lowest grades. That is how He spends his time in lessons where he should be learning a real

Sorry, but what?
He obviously doesn't like german I suppose so he learned something he liked more - And you judge him for doing what he wants rather than what the school wants him to do?
Granted using the language just to insult others isn't the best way to do it but still.

It is a language. A language many speaks.
What do you think of Elvish? Is that too not a language?
What about the dying language of Ainu?
German is an optional subject. He chose it

Yeah. It's also a form of depression. It's the depression the rest of us professional depression sufferer's call "pussy" depression. At least, I'm trying to make it a common term. It's not like it'll make things worse for them, they're just sad they don't live in a glowing tropical rain forest with reptile chihuahuas trying to kill them constantly.

On a serious note, if anyone insults me in Navi, I'll punch them in the throat and call them a caun (or however it's spelled).

Yeah. So I was in my German class at school yesterday and we had to log onto like a message page thing to do a group vocabulary test and this dude was insulting people in Na'vi. Ironically he is the guy with the lowest grades. That is how He spends his time in lessons where he should be learning a real
language that can get him somewhere instead of a fake one. So I want to know escapists. What are your thoughts on Na'vi being a Language?

PS: My German teacher is now taking the piss outa him.
What did you expect? You got people learning: Tolkien's Elvish, Klingon's, Hutt (Yeah, there are people out there that speak like Jabba the Hutt.)Evok, Jawwa, Smurf... You think Avatar's fanbase would be different? Why?

This is the same question I have with every one of these stupid things. How do you get enough words from a movie to effectively communicate with someone?
They found a way... they always found a way.

To be fair, Cameron hired a linguist to actually create the Na'vi language. So it was a proper (if fictional) language before it was actually in the film.
To be fair, when will they use it? And to who will they speak to?

Well, I'd have a lot more respect for something like that if they learned a fake language from a good IP, like Sindarin from LoTR. Alas, he chose the smurf language from a mediocre one.

But from your description it seems like he only chose to learn the curses, implying his immaturity. Hope the teacher whips him into shape.

Swear in Navi as much as you like, it'll never replace Klingon.

It's worse than Klingon.

Screw that, I'm still trying to learn Hylian.
How can you judge a fake language? Does Elvish make you look more sophisticated than "Smurfish"? Does learning Klingon make you a bad-ass?

Sadly the fact that he takes the time out to learn how to swear in a fake language shows how pathetic he is.

depends how in depth they went with making the language, for example there are several full languages in the lord of the rings universe which Tolkien invented which you can learn jsut as any other language

I wasn't saying it wasn't dumb, just that it is actually a complete, speakable language.

How about using the full capacity of your brain to benefit mankind?
Is that overrated all of a sudden?
There are knowledge that are useful and there a lot that aren't. I don't need to know that to skip most of the level in Super Mario Bros 1, you need to take go over the final pipe in 1-2 and run until you get the pipe to level 4 that in level 4-2, hit the invisible coin box after the the second gap and hit the box with the vine that will lead you to level 8. (I dare you to say that in one breath). What i want and need to know, what will happen to the dumbass human race when the sun go supernova and how can i help.

I don't debate that it's dumb. It's the Speakable part that cause problem. Can you really call it a language if your the only one around that used it. (I don't believe that there a mob of Avatar fan that speak Na'vi in between work or school.)

*calms down*

Okay, I'm cool now. Anyway, it's awesome that they constructed a language for the Na'vi. I might have to learn it. Along with Klingon...and Vulcan...and Romulan.

... yes?

It's still a language, it's just disused. Like latin. Or Esperanto.

Esperanto is actually a pretty good example. Artificially created, and spoken by next to no one.

This surprises you? After stuff like Klingon and Elvish becoming real life languages nothing like this surprises me much.
