So ignoring the stupid title (I couldn't think of a more eloquent way to write it), who is a character that's died in a series (Book, Film, T.V, Video Games), but you consider to still be easily the best character. For me I have two
Eddard Stark from Game of Thrones, L from Death Note and arguable Oberyn Martell from A Song of Ice and Fire. Firstly I'm choosing TV Neddy over book Ned, purely based on Sean Bean's acting chops. Sean Bean was perfect in so many ways as the character of Ned that he just stole the show for me. Rather than book Ned who appeared cold and oddly similar to Stannis in his overwhelming sense of personal justice, I felt that that the TV version was incredibly fleshed out and his sense of right and wrong felt less like naivety and just the personality of a man who'd seen some shit and I cannot think of Game of Thrones without thinking of Ned Stark.
L from Death Note in my opinion was the show. He stole literally every scene he was in and his methodical nature and childlike curiosity made him instantly one of my favourite characters in any media. There's so much more that I could say on the character, but I think the best way to describe him, is that his death turned a 10/10 show into a 7/10 show.
Finally I'd like to spiel on Oberyn Martell. This man is pure charisma. Literally the first time he sauntered into the book, with his extravagant convoy of Dornish nobles and his back and forth between Tyrion, arguably the third - second most intelligent character in the books (Petyr Baelish and Varys are the likely top two) was one of the best introductions the books had given any character. While only appearing occasionally in the story, every scene he was in revolved around him and he had quite possibly the greatest death in any series I've ever scene, crippling the Mountain who Rides and doing it with so much style and flair, that when he inevitably had his skull crushed, I threw the book across the room in rage.
