First up, let me be frank here. I don't hate Call of Duty, nor do I hate its fanbase. I've been a long-time fan of the series. Not hardcore or anything, but they make for good stress release. So anyway, story time.
I do Bikram Yoga. I'm notably not in good shape, I just started. I sit behind a computer during my free time, and when I'm at work, I sit behind a computer some more. I hate gyms, but I need something for physical activity. Anyway, for those out there that aren't familiar with Bikram Yoga, it's done in an extremely hot and humid room and it takes a lot out of you - especially if you're as unfit as me. I had Yoga this morning, bright and early at 6am (I'm not a morning person, either). When I got out and got home, I just wanted to relax for a bit and release some stress. Looking over my game library, I decided to boot up Modern Warfare 2 since it had been a while since I last played.
I kinda felt like messing around, so I went with a fairly noobish class setup... an M-240 LMG with Grip and Thermal Scope, Stinger, Semtex, 2x Flashbangs, Bling Pro, Stopping Power Pro, Steady Aim Pro, and Painkiller. The map was Rundown. I started off at the C spawn and rushed toward the A spawn, taking two people down when I got there. I had no backup, so I retreated back to the steps leading up to the B hallway. I took out two more people who tried to follow me through the tunnel, then covered the B hallway while a teammate covered the tunnel. I LMG sniped three more players at the other end of the tunnel and called in my Harrier Airstrike on the A spawn. The bombs killed one player and the jet killed another before being shot down. Called in my Pavelow. My Pavelow took down four players before being shot down. I managed another kill at B hallway before being hit by an RPG-7 rocket. I spawned by A, took to the second floor of the building, and sniped from there for the last minute or so of the game. I ended up going 18/1. So I had a pretty decent game.
Except for the three or four players, one of which on my team, who spent the entire game accusing me of wall hacking. What the hell? Really?
So if a player is having a good game, suddenly it's because they're hacking. Not because they just had a good game. Not because they got a bit lucky. Not because their air support shredded you and no one thought to shoot it down. Not because the player was hardscoped onto a single well-traveled point that players kept walking right into over, and over, and over again. Oh no. Absolutely none of that. It's because the player is hacking!
Really guys, are the egos really that ridiculous that you can't accept that maybe, just maybe, you should have shot down the air support and tried flanking me? I really don't understand why players think that taking a page out of Zap Branigan's Big Book of War and trying to throw wave after wave of their own bodies into my hail of 7.62x51mm bullets will cause me to hit a pre-set kill limit and shut down.
Back when I used to play MW2 more often, I saw this from time to time. But not every single time that someone got off a lucky shot, or had a good game. Now it's just ridiculous. So, Escapists, of you who also play the CoD games...
What's the deal?
