I'm not one to post Jim's work, but this is just too perfect! The entire thing is about how yeah, games cost WAY more than that base $60.

I'm pretty sure that what Silent Pony is trying to say is that they never pay full price for a game. My dad does the same thing with everything. Also, there's nothing wrong with that. Also, also, dad's stacking some serious cash.
I honestly have nothing against someone paying full price for a game. If that's what they're worth to them, sure, go for it.
Personally no dev has ever been able to justify the price. To me. For my money.
If someone else thinks the Witcher 3 deluxe classic premium edition is worth $150, more power to them!

I'd like to get Cuphead via merit of it's art style alone but I have no intentions of playing a game only to get my face bashed in repeatedly. Don't get me wrong, I love me some souls (beat Ornstein and Smough on my first try, yeah you read that correctly) and I'm currently going through Hollow Knight (some of those bosses ain't no slouch either) but I'm not looking for that in a pure platformer anymore. Ideally, I'd like a beautiful platformer that plays well and has a difficult but fair range of game play difficulty. Those that rely wholly on memorization (a-la Abe's Odyssy) have always turned me off.

Hey I get it, when it comes to AAA 60 dollar games. Believe me I get it. I don't understand applying that same thing to a 20 dollar budget game though.

Would you buy a 60 game on sale for 20 bucks? If so, why wouldn't you pay 20 for this game? Would you pay 20 bucks for Cuphead if it had a 30 dollar price tag originally?

The best way to put it is that its symbolic to me. The last full-price I paid was for a collector's edition of Mass Effect 3 'cause I fucking love that series! And day 1, before I even got off Mars the screen went black. I was one of the first to report the 'black screen of death' problem. I contacted EA and was told thanks for the money, can't help you as its a xbox live issue. Contacted Microsoft and was told its an EA interacting with Live issue, and it can't be fixed.
And it was like that for hundreds of days(I think it was a year and some change) until a backroom fix came along where I had to rewrite some code myself to fix my game!

Since then I don't pay full price. I've lost all trust that the game works at launch, has enough content to justify itself, or that the game companies care at all about my experience.
Cuphead looks fun. I want to play it. And yeah $20 is pretty cheap and I easily could afford it.
But I have to wait because I simply don't trust game devs anymore.
And yes I know not all devs are the same. I'm still not going to risk it. So its a protest that I don't accept the industry as it is, and I'll happily wait months before getting a game that I like because I want to give the industry as little of my money as I can. If they're not going to care about my experience, I'm not about to care about their bottom line.

I mean you had one bad experience and I feel you, but Steam offers a full refund with less than 2 hours playtime (further for extreme cases), plus there are tons of reviews and resources that allow you to make sure people aren't experiencing game breaking issues.

I mean if you ate a bad piece of chicken, would you never eat chicken again?

Hey you do you, it just seems like an extreme call to make from one bad experience.
