so, did Black ops fix MW2's problems?

having gotten the game on tuesday and playing online yesterday and today, i think the game is far more balanced, no secondary shotguns, melee is improved, killstreaks dont stack, no quickscoping and a few other things i cant remember.

but does this make the game better? oh and do you think black ops has its own problems? i personally find the spawn system infuriating, i dont know how many times ive had people spawn behind me and kill me.

any opinions?
All I can say is it's different. There was a patch for Xbox about the spawning, also Killstreaks DO stack.
no, killstreaks dont stack. what i mean by that is if you have chopper gunner and gunship as your killstreaks, and you get 10 kills with the chopper gunner, you wont get your gunship. you have to get every kill yourself.
Oh, well to be fair, that wasn't all that obvious. Another thing is you can't have more than one chopper in the air at once anymore.
yeah i know it wasnt to clear, i realised after i read it again, sorry about that. Having only one chopper in the air is great addition, even if you have a chopper gunner waiting it doesnt matter as your not pressured into using it quickly to get your next killstreak, if that makes sense.

they made sniping shit. quickscoping needs skill, i can't find something bad at it.
Do you understand how a sniper works?
i know how a sniper works. he lies in the dirt, waiting for his target (which is 2km away), and after some hours of waiting, his job is done. but i didn't find a map for that sort of sniping yet. wasteland and derail were cool maps for sniping, but maps like these two don't exist in black ops.

I hate to be "that guy", but how does quickscoping involve any form of skill?
did you ever try it?

ok you know how sniping works
but I want a sniper to be a sniper and not a shotgun type of weapon.

Pretty much everything that I've experienced in the game has been mentioned, except one thing:

Pistols (and not just the goddamn revolver) can actually kill people in regular death match. Sure, it takes a few rounds to the chest or a one lucky shot, but it does actually kill people, unlike in MW2.

Well hasn't the latest Black Ops patch made footsteps louder? Looks like Treyarch are caving under peer pressure and just including crap they purposely took out in the first place.
No, the recent patch did absolutely nothing. They *supposedly* fixed the audio issues and the matchmaking problems, yet neither of them is actually fixed. There's still no enemy footstep noise and matchmaking still splits your party up on a regular basis.

Thanks for clearing this up. I don't actually have the game so this was just what I had heard from people that do have it. Still, it doesn't bode well if that what they actually intended to do. We'll have to see if they implement it in the future.

Mostly.

However...

Knifing is still borked. They got rid of that thrice-cursed Commando perk, but then went and gave a mild version of it to everybody. People can still knife-lunge-teleport several metres.

Oh, and the spawning system is still utterly retarded. Seems to be a trademark of the series.

Yes I have. With the auto-assist aiming, sleight of hand pro, and starting sniper other than the 50. cal (I forgot), I could hit anyone regardless of range. All I'd have to do is look in their general direction, not even finish scoping, pull the trigger, and they died. I would miss a few times most games, but the effects were often the same. I quickscope my way to Harrier, then to AC-130 or Chopper Gunner based on map, then nuke it. Yes I did do this to get the easy emblem, but I was ashamed and disgusted for using such a broken mechanic. I stand by my previous post.

How exactly does nerfing sniping to the ground "fix" it?

I understand what people say about MW2 sniping being broken (which is more a problem with Sleight of Hand Pro than with sniping itself), but to say Black Ops "fixed" sniping is one of the most utterly moronic statements I've ever heard in my life. If anything Black Ops BROKE sniping, which was perfectly fine in CoD4 and to a lesser extent WaW (hit detection issues aside).

MW2 Problem:
No dedicated server support for PC.

Black Ops Solution:
It's there alright. Nice to know that boycott worked.

MW2 Problem:
Online multiplayer feels like the game can't decide what it wants to be; a slow, strategic FPS like BF2, or a face-paced affair like Quake and Unreal, or a quasi-MMORPG.

Black Ops Solution:
Untouched for the most part.

MW2 Problem:
Single player mode is nothing but a linear gauntlet of checkpoints through a boneheaded plot that feels like something out of a shitty Michael Bay movie.

Black Ops Solution:
RUSSIA BAD! AMERICA GOOD!

MW2 Problem:
Hard working Infinity Ward staff gets screwed out of well deserved bonuses by soulless Activision Board Members.

Black Ops Solution:
Bobby Kotick ends the year with an eight figure annual income.

The question is did they fix the biggest one? Does it still lack dedicated servers?
They're rent-only. There is no dedicated server software for Black Ops that has been publicly released.

I did. It was too easy, so I stopped. Everyone who thinks it takes skill is kidding themselves. Using Slight of Hand, Stopping Power and Steady Aim... I took to not using Sleight or Stopping power, and I still did really well. That took a lot more skill than shitty quickscoping...

Surely MW2 was like that as well as being a shitty Michael Bay movie? (I love that idea for a Michael bay movie, it really sounds like something he'd do: RUSSIA INVADES TEH USA!!1! CAPTAIN PRICE IS BACK!!! YAY!!!! GETTING BETRAYED IS COOL!!!!)

Please don't call me or my statement moronic.

In Modern Warfare 2, one's bullets didn't kill people. At all.
Broken.

In Black Ops, they do so regularly and reliably.
Fixed.

Uhh...

Have we been playing the same 2 games? Perhaps you got the 2 reversed by accident?

Modern Warfare 2 has excellent hit detection and no random sniper accuracy. Black Ops has terrible hit detection and a 3 second window where you might as well blindfold yourself before taking the shot.

Like I said, Black Ops broke sniping if anything.

Luckily Treyarch appear to be discussing removing the sniper patch, which is wonderful news.

It is odd that you bring this up, because I have been told by many that the reverse of my experience is the case, then had them tell me that it was a totally different experience on the PC, the console on which I play. Perhaps the problems are reversed on the consoles, but I've found that the sniping works very well for me, as it did poorly in MW2.
Also, the whole 3-second-blind-spot thing is not something that has ever caused me any grievance. I tend to take more care and precision over my shots, and I mae use of those three seconds to get it on target.
Hit detection has worked pretty soundly for me too.
