So EA charges nearly 2-4 times the price for their own games on Origin.

Meh steam is overpriced and so is Origin.
except with steam everything's on sale every other month.
Yeah? Origin have sales as well, and if you have a problem with their products you get 15% sale on your next purchases (I've gotten two of those just cause it took more then a day for them to respond)

And like I said origin have prices in Swedish kr while steam has it in Euro.
And fact is that I've started to use origin more and more since their servers actually works.
I cannot be bothered with a digital service company where you download your game at 200-300kB/s

Ouch, that's gotta hurt, I'm glad Canadians get the same prices as the US for the most part.

Although here's a question, is there any way to fool these programs (perhaps with a proxy?) into thinking you're in a different region to get a better price?

There's probably a thousand reasons this won't work, but who know, when you're talking a difference of $60 might be worth it to explore the options.

So what have we learned here today, my little Teletubbies? Games cost different amounts in different countries. Some countries are fairly priced, others are genuine rip-offs. It's not an "EA sucks!" matter, it's an "Our country sucks!" matter. Not that anyone's country sucks, just their pricing system sucks.

I'll fully admit that I don't know how/why games get priced differently for different countries, but I'd imagine it's more about importation laws and taxes and such and not specifically the game developer saying "Well New Zealand is filled with a bunch of gamers that will happily pay outrageous prices, so lets rip them off!" I could easily be wrong about this and it could be exactly what I just said: the companies picking and choosing what games cost how much in whichever country...I don't know for certain, but I just don't think that's the case.

EA still tend to charge retail prices for digital download which considering its pure profit is a rip off
This isn't new. Outside of sales and the odd indie game digital distribution has always matched retail sales, no matter where you go.

In fact you can usually get new games cheaper from retail stores if you shop around.
Pretty much this. I remember when NCSoft was selling Guild Wars factions for $30 on the NCSoft store and it was $5 on sale at Amazon, Target, etc... Turns out "full price" off the shelf was $10.

There was much facepalming in my gaming chair that day.

1-Amazon!
2-origin
3-steam

so on a full basket steam beats origin out by 10 but they are a distant 2 and 3 to the one that actually sends you a box! WTF and btw amazon do free delivery so that is final price.

Edit - The moral of the story. Buy your PC games from Amazon, not Steam/Origin.
So, because one game was cheaper on Amazon over Steam, that means they all must be?

You could do the same comparison for every game on Steam that got a boxed release and amazon would probably be cheaper 95% of the time, except during sales (though Steam sales are mainly games that are digital distribtuion-only in the first place). Let's face it, digital distribution currently is, for the most part, a ripoff when it comes to AAA games.

Subatomic said it just below, but I want to respond directly. Nearly every game on Steam (not sure about other digitil distribution places) is cheaper on Amazon than it is on Steam. Go to Steam right now, pick any random game that isn't brand new then compare its price to Amazon. Sometimes you only save a few bucks which gets eaten up by shipping price (or you wait around 6 days for your game) so the extra money you pay for convenience is worth it. Other times, like my Dead Rising 2 example, you're bein charged nearly double for the same game. There is absolutely no reason that a digital version of a game should cost more than a physical copy. Its a blatant ripoff of the consumer and its annoyin as fuck.

As an Australian, even when Skyrim was 66% off on Steam I could still find a cheaper price in stores or shipped from the UK. Steam just does not have good pricing for the first two years after a game is released, or ever if it is a COD game.

Oh EA... y u so funny?

Yet another reason to add to my ever growing billion page list of 'reasons why I will never buy an EA game ever again.'
