Edit - The moral of the story. Buy your PC games from Amazon, not Steam/Origin.
So, because
one game was cheaper on Amazon over Steam, that means they
all must be?
Subatomic said it just below, but I want to respond directly. Nearly every game on Steam (not sure about other digitil distribution places) is cheaper on Amazon than it is on Steam. Go to Steam right now, pick any random game that isn't brand new then compare its price to Amazon. Sometimes you only save a few bucks which gets eaten up by shipping price (or you wait around 6 days for your game) so the extra money you pay for convenience is worth it. Other times, like my Dead Rising 2 example, you're bein charged nearly double for the same game. There is absolutely no reason that a digital version of a game should cost more than a physical copy. Its a blatant ripoff of the consumer and its annoyin as fuck.
Half Life 2:
Steam £6.99
Amazon £8.81 - £19.99
Half Life 2 Ep 1:
Steam £5.99
Amazon £7.95
Magicka
Steam £7.99 normally, right now
£1.99
Amazon £9.00 - £12.99
Here's some from my neck of the woods right now goin off the top sellers list right now on Steam.
Modern warfare 3
Steam price - (normally) $59.99 (33% off) $40.19
Amazon price - $46.99
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Steam - 59.99
Amazon - 59.96
Dont ask why its 5 cents cheaper cause I haven't got a clue.
Wolfenstein
Steam price (normally) $19.99 (75% off) $4.99
Amazon - $12.35 + shipping makes it about 20. Go for one of the non fulfilled by amazon choices and you can go as low as $13
Skyrim
Steam - 59.99
Amazon - 52.99
Crusader Kings 2
Steam - 39.99
Amazon - 35.99
Wanna know somethin funny about Crusader Kings 2? They're both downloads. One on Steam, one on Amazon and yet the Steam one still costs more. Fascinating.
Postal 3
Steam - 39.99
Amazon - 39.99
Left 4 Dead 2
Steam - 19.99
Amazon - 19.99
And to show you my price for Magicka
Magicka collection which includes all the dlc for Magicka
Steam - 24.99
Amazon - 4.99 (to be fair, the amazon version is missin a few)
Also because it still amuses the hell out of me
Dead Rising 2
Steam - 29.99
Amazon - 13.92
Dead Rising 2 off the record
Steam - 39.99
Amazon - 24.45
Chances are the prices vary by region, but my point still stands though I will make an amendment. If the game is not brand spankin new or has a very very good deal goin or is a Valve game, it will almost certainly be cheaper on Amazon. Does this mean to blindly buy everythin on Amazon? No. It means that before you get all hot and bothered by somethin on Steam and blindly reach for your credit card, check the price on Amazon first. You may only end up spendin a few bucks more in which case a little conveinence is worth the cost. Other times you end up payin almost double for absolutely no god damn reason.
edit -
If you want I can easily reinforce my opinion with much more evidence that isn't in the range of "Eh, its a few bucks." Couple of fun points, every Dawn of War game on Steam right now is 19.99 with the exception of retribution which is 29.99. On Amazon the same games all range from 4 dollars to 15 dollars with the exception of retribution which is still 30. The best part? That 15 dollar one has every Dawn of War 1 in it except Soulstorm. Dawn of War 2 o2 and Dawn of War 2 Chaos Rising are 9 and 7 dollars respectively or 12 for the gold edition which has both.
double edit -
An important note is that none of those games would have any shippin costs associated unless the total shipping cost of the order is under 25 dollars. With the exception of Wolfenstein, which I mentioned, none of the actual shippin costs would have made it cheaper to buy on Steam with the exception of Left 4 Dead 2, the only Valve game on the list.
