So I still wear velcro. Yes, they do make velcro shoes that big. And I always get crap for wearing velcro. And I don't understand why. Velcro is more convient, it'll never come off, it'll never trip you, it's faster, etc. Sure, kids wear them, but kids wear lace shoes to! I just don't understand it. So maybe you can shed some light on it.

Oh, I guess it could be because velcro is identified witrh light-up firetruck shoes, but that could be changed!

I guess it's seen as baby's first shoe so like games and cartoons which tend to be associated with children it gets a bad wrap when worn by older people.

I don't see a problem.

Also please all escapists the collective term for us is Escapists.

I know that the term is escapist, but I was trying to mix it up a bit, y'know?

Velcro is much more convenient, but wearing it does mean you catch crap from everybody. Also, velcro does retain its hold over time. You can just replace worn out laces, but replacing velcro is a pain in the ass.

It's also more hygienic. How many times I saw my shoelaces touching the wet floor of a public stall... With velcro you don't have to put up with this shit.

But by the time your velcro dies, you can probably just get new ones!
...
yeah, this is a shameless bump. Ignore my flawed logic.

Pretty much this. I like velcro on my clothing especially if it is something I want ripped off(like during dancing or something)and don't want ruined or just laziness of putting on/taking off clothes. I have a skirt that is attached with velcro that I need to take the velcro off and put new velcro on. and its just a pain. I also need to fix the velcro on my knee/ankle braces as well that's wearing down terribly....and those are more everyday use. Shoe wise though for me, I'd get probably 6 months use out of it til it wore down too badly and then would need to replace it. Since I don't sew that means talking my mom, grandma, or best mate into sewing for me. And I bug them enough as is....

I like Velcro but I don't have any apparel that relies on it. I don't get why there's such a stigma surrounding it either. It's more convenient for sure and like the OP said, you don't trip over velcro. My shoe-laces are too long as is and I just keep them tied, slipping them off and on.

I may look for some velcro shoes next time I need a new pair...

My point exactly. Velcro is infinitely superior.

I hate velcro. It's one of those stupid products that's designed to fail. Eventually the hooks will no longer stick to the loops once they have all been pulled out. Plus hair, lint, fuzz etc can get stuck to it.

I personally don't like any product like that.

Also it just seems cheap. It's like plastic being compared to wood or metal: it just isn't as nice.

I've never had anything get stuff to my shoes. Ever.

Eh, nothing wrong with it as a choice if they're for convenience. Its just they look like they're for children a lot of the time.
Also I never really liked how bits of material gets stuck to it. Makes it look all messy.

There are plenty of terms that can be used (not all of them polite). I believe that one of the staff members (although I forget which one) addressed users as "Escaparinos" at one point.

Don't be so picky.

You know, this reminds me: I had a dream last night that my tennis shoes had been replaced by a pair of those light up shoes. Those things were awesome when I was a kid, but I have no idea where that dream came from.

OT: If I could get away with velcro on my shoes, I'd do it, just to save time on lacing them up. It's also useful for other things -- like the strap I use to keep my laptop power supply from getting tangled when I pack it up. So, in other words, why would anyone dislike velcro?

Escaparinos is clearly made up though. An escapee is a term referring to a different person than an escapist.
Nothing wrong with promoting proper grammar.

I don't mind velcro. You're right, there is a stigma against velcro shoes, and it's pretty much arbitrary.

That being said, I wear shoes with laces.

Weird... But groovy. I must question, what kind of light up shoes were they?

Its an unnecessary correction though, and just comes off as being needlessly pedantic.

Why does it matter what you're referred to as as long as everyone knows what you mean?
