Basically earlier today about 100 gypsies set up camp in the field behind my house. I'm scared.

So: What should I do if they come near me/to my house and do you have any stories involving Gypsies?

If they start doing anything illegal just call the police, they'll know how to deal with it. Out of interest are these people "real gypsies", or simply travellers?

Do not let them put a curse on you.

True fact: Bernie Shaw was once cursed by a gypsy queen.

I saw a program on gypsies. Their way of life is unacceptable. They live in such a way because they were taught so by their parents, and again they teach their children to live in such a way.

More should be done to help them.

Well if you own the land and don't want them on there then call the cops. If they are bothering you though speak to the actually land owner to see if they are legally allowed to be on there, if not then get ready to . . . RELEASE THE HOUNDS!

I feel your pain. I live about three hundred metres away from a legitimate Gypsy camp, and so long as they stay there, I've got no problem. However, they keep trying to move onto the field directly behind my house, and they're trying to force through a sale of the land despite it being declared part of the National Trust. The entire village is fighting them tooth and nail, because it's always a disaster when they pitch on that field. Pets go missing, they let their horses run wild, and they break windows all over the place. Plus they carry guns, which we don't want.

Police is your best bet. It's likely that they're there illegally, and with enough complaints, the authorities should move them on. I'd complain to the council as well.

I swear, I try my hardest to be open-minded and not badmouth them, but with the way they treat us, they make it difficult. It really is scary.

Lock your doors, windows, children, pets, and any vehicles inside the house, I remember a bunch of gypsies would pinch alloy wheels from cars that were in a parking lot overnight at one of the building sites I would go to every month or so.

And the ones in the US are not much better, if you ever saw the series with Eddie Izzard as the main character, they are almost exactly like that, scheming opportunists.
