Vampires never took my intrest. I will stick with my love of zombies. Vampires look lame and boring, all pale and red eyed.

I feel that one of the recent (Read: mostly unwatched) 'Simpsons' episodes summed it up pretty good.

[Little girl is doodling an Edward-like vampire crying blood next to Bart]
Bart: What the hell is that?
Girl: It's a vampire.
Bart: ... No. It's not.
Girl: Yes it is!
Bart: No, a vampire should not be crying. It should look like this:
[Doodles rapidly, revealing a gremlin faced monstrosity with dripping fangs, the head of a peasant in one hand, and a similarly bloody hunk of meat in the other]
Bart: That, my girl, is a REAL vampire.

Hmm ok this is how i like my vampires:

sunlight hurts but does not kill:If a vampire goes into the sun they will go into great physical pain they lose their strength and their first for blood greatly increases.

Blood is needed to survive:Vampires need one body's worth of human blood a month the more human blood they drink the stronger they are. They can drink animal blood but it can hardly keep them alive they need 6 body's worth of animal blood a month and drinking animal blood makes them weaker.

powers: They are stronger and faster than human they also have amazing senses. They can also control the weak minded. They can not transform into a different bats or other creatures. Can regenerate if given enough human blood.

How to kill:Garlic has no effect. Holy artifacts makes them weaker. They can die in the same way any human can die just in a more extreme version {20 bullets in the chest would probably do the trick if there of average strength}If they haven't fed or are in sun light or you have an holy artifact then less damage would need to be done.

I like them when they look like THIS.

More monster then man, creature of the night, scary as #$@#. If you have yet to see Nosferatu, fix that.

Killing machines with only the smallest fraction of them crying over their own victims, if that. Most are upbeat or even whimsical about it.

Only weak against sunlight or occasionally crosses and other holy artifacts.

May appear to be impossibly beautiful people, suspiciously perfect and clean until their secret is discovered.

In other words, the Buffy-verse vampires.

The old 2nd ed D&D vampires.. particurly ravenloft setting vampires ... obsessive compulsives, who can charm people, and need to be invited into a person's room before they can enter (hence their ability to charm.... and the ability for them to bleed your con faster than a gigantic leech. They burn in sunlight sao strong light spells wreck their shit.

They are quick, strong and UNDEAD which means positive curative magics also wreck their shit. They can command wolves, bats and sometimes ravens, and regularly do so. They can turn into a gaseous substance to escape but can also be repelled if presented with a holy symbol of a priest of a curative or light deity. The "You shall not pass!" routine.

That's my summary of a cool, classic, gothic horror vampire.

I prefer my vampires to like to suck blood, and live off it. I prefer my vampires to be able to turn into mist, or a bat. Sunlight can kill just about instantly if enough of the body is exposed to it. Vampires can die from a steak to the heart, or a cinder block over the head for like an hour. Stuff like that...

30 Days of Night had some great vampires. Menacing, bloodsuckers, and were able to be killed in the sunlight.

However, I'm not sure if garlic works on them, but the characters could've tested it out since they go to a Supermarket in one scene.

They catch on fire if hit by sunlight for more then 10 seconds

I always loved this concept when I read "Let the right one in"

They're stronger, faster, and more agile than normal humans

Though not in the Twilight sense where edward can more or less throw a small boulder with ease (Though he never does it for some reason). I mean more like they can easily pick you up and throw you like 7 meters away.

They can only be killed by either a silver cross to the heart or sunlight

I never liked the concept of garlic being leathal. Stabbing a vampire in the heart with a silver cross is more badass, and them dying by buring up from the sunlight just makes normal sense to me.

They look just like normal humans, just with fangs and pale skin

I don't like where they make vampires look too different from normal humans. Like in Buffy, where spike gets that weird forehead, and I think his eyebrows dissapear too.
