Natural selection killed off all vampires that couldn't handle the sun. Only the ones that developed a gene to resist the UV rays are left.

Legacy of Kain for me. Fast, superstrong, telekinesis, excellent combat expertise thanks to millennium-long lifespans, night-immortality and several other vampire traits, like mist/bat transformation, mind control...

Also obvious weaknesses - holy artifacts deal huge damage, repel them if used on inanimate objects like walls or armors, can't stand still water (but rain doesn't harm) and of course, sunlight is bad. Like, very lethal.

But you do get to wield unbelievably powerful magical powers, swords that drain blood and you are hundreds of years old while looking beefed up.

Scary, fast, strong, weak to sunlight, and fictional, thank you very much.

I like the classic vampires
-Pale Skin
-Sun=bad
-Blood to survive
-Fangs
-Bite=infection
-Weakness to garlic and Holy crosses/objects
-Super human strength and speed.
-Aristocratic attitude/Suave and conniving
-Ability to turn into a bat

I also like the vampires from 30 Days of Night as well.

Sunlight:

I prefer the idea of sunlight reducing them to an incorporeal form. They don't just die, but they can't do anything. Upon the nightfall they coalesce back into their normal form. And no, they don't fucking sparkle at any point of the process.

Blood:

Vampires should require blood at least once monthly. Vampires who consume more blood are healthier and thus stronger. There are a few select foods that are edible to vampires. Most other forms of nourishment will cause violent allergic reactions which can incapacitate the vampire.

Strength:

Vampires should be stronger, faster, and smarter than the average human. Most should easily be able to overpower humans.

Appearance:

Vampires should look exactly like humans except for slitted pupils (difficult to notice without close examination) and extended canines. They generally are gaunt due to their only form of nourishment being blood and a few other select foods.

Easy. Much like the mythology they are based upon. Nightdwellers who feed on the blood of creatures. They are malicious and deceitful. They move in the shadows and are rarely realized by those naive of their existence. Powerful and fast, but within reason. Immortal since they are technically already dead. AKA not Twilight. More Bladesque.

Interview with Vampire/Vampire: The Masquerade style prefered.

Human looking, sun being lethal in 99.9% cases, garlic not an issue, cross and holy water only works if the person using them has actual faith in them, shape-shifting is something they can learn, human blood is the preferred way, animal blood possible but is much weaker and wont really last for long, must conceal their nature.

A toss up really for me. Legacy of Kain vampires have a special place in my mind, but they were kinda set up to mostly be beastlike, aside from Kain and Raziel.

I think the Vampire: The Masquerade vamps are probably my favorite. Very diverse.

I also like Hellsing's Alucard, but he really cannot be killed or even stopped.

I like things that make some kind of sense.
Turning into bats? There's way too many physical impossibilities for this to ever seem even remotely plausible. It's retarded.
Bursting into flame in sunlight? Eh, that's also kinda stupid. Hypersensitive to it, sure, why not.
Crosses? That's like an ad campaign for christianity and was never actually a good idea.
Garlic? I suppose they could think it's really nasty, or have some for of allergic reaction to it.
A bite turns you into a vampire? Stupid. If a bite was enough to turn you, the world would soon become overrun, and if a bite would kill you, he'd leave a trail of corpses and would soon be destroyed.

Honestly, just keep it simple.
A cunning bloodthirsty monster that prowls the night, hunting people for food.
No need for crosses, silver and the other stupid medieval fairytale shit.
Those weaknesses were there to enable humans to prevail over overwhelming power through exploiting of their weaknesses in stories.
No need for that any more. We've got better guns now.

I like any Vampire aslong as they have a weakness. The weakness may not be traditional but they have to be killable by humans although not easily but still doable. This is what pisses me off abotu Twilight the fact they are nigh on invicible and can only be killed by Vampires with certain abilities, mobs of vampires or werewolves. So anything from Kain to Dracula to Angel and Spike does me aslong as they do have some sort of weakness attached to them.

My favourite kind of vampire's are probably the ones from the darren shan series. Sun hurts and will kill in prolonged exposure. Human blood is necessary but not all that regularly, however drinking often and lots gives you more strength and speed. hightened reflexes from being a vampire. Also super strong skin/nails etc.
