Cause there are several threads talking about it but all any one off them seems to say is

WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH TWO WEAPON LIMIT WAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH REGENERATING HEALTH WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

neither of these things matter to me, and I'm not really seeing much discussion beyond those 2 aspects. I've seen footage of the demo and the humor seems to be workng, but how does it PLAY?

I had a lot of fun with it.
The dumber people expected it to be a direct sequel to 3D circa 2001 with the same gameplay systems and stuff, when it was clearly not going to be the case.
The same thing happened with Dragon Age 2 when everyone expected another hardcore RPG, even though there were tons of videos and screenshots showing otherwise.

I saw people downloading it on Steam, but it wouldn't let me, why is that?

Although I did watch it on Youtube and honestly, I wasn't too impressed.

A wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Don't buy it. It'll only make you realise that all the hype built around Duke Nukem really was completely baseless and ruin your nostalgia.

You have to preorder the game to get the demo.

Well, duh. Of course they did. The ONLY reason Duke Nukem can be made to hold any relevance today is to be almost the exactly opposite of what most shooters are today.

Not that I wanted it in the first place, but I at least understand the reasons for wanting it.

You have to own Borderlands or have pre-ordered the game.

OT: It was shit. Problems:

- Shooting is weak, as in, piss-poor bad
- The short driving sequence handled like shit
- Its ugly as sin
- Its not funny (or obscene, no matter how much it thinks it is)

And really, what else does it have going to work with? You'd have to be tripping balls so hard on nostalgia that your mind would be seeing everything through 90s-O-vision to find it anywhere near good.

Well all signs pointed to it being more "mainstream" in terms of the main problems people complain about.
It isn't as if the health/gun limit was kept secret, it was completely public information.

Still, people can still be pissed if they missed that. Maybe they'd have forgiven it if it weren't so dreadful.

It was pretty short and linear... Judging by the trailers though I am not sure how much of the game it really shows you. Still my impression was that for nostalgia's sake it will get purchased, but prolly not until it costs considerably less at a Steam Xmas sale or something...

Also FYI If you bought Borderlands GOY you can also join the Duke Nukem first access club... Apparently we even get the first DLC for free... If you have steam right click your Borderlands Icon and then show CD key and you should get a code that you can then enter here:

Have fun!

So, in order to play the demo, which is that thing that most game companies let you play so that you'll be interested in buying their game, is only available after I've bought it? Not the most sound marketing tactics in my opinion. I guess Gearbox is just so sure that everyone knows about this game that they don't even need to introduce it to newer gamers.

Another thing that's bugging me is how some people seem to confuse different with bad. For example int his video of the demo I'm watching, he says that a 2 weapon limit is inherently bad, because you may be in a situation where you have previously dropped the weapon that would have left you best equipped to deal with your enemies. However this isn't necessarily BAD, just different that older style shooters in that you now have to prioritize and think about your weapon selection.

I had a great deal of fun with it, even put a pre-order in for the game today.

It was basically just what I expected, seeing as I've been following the game's progress for a while now (which is why I find it amusing that people are just now raging over aspects of the demo that were revealed as far back as PAX '10.) The gunplay is pretty standard, the graphics aren't really groundbreaking but still have their own charm, and the interactivity and humor makes it quite fun. My only gripe is that the demo was pretty damn short.

What the hell kind if backwards ass logic is hat? The only way for it to be relevant today is for it to be an irrelevant relic of a bygone age, what the hells that supposed to mean?
Because people, inevitably, get tired of getting the same mechanics, settings, enemies and weapons. Of course, the character is not in the slightest bit relevant considering what he's parodying, so the only thing the game can offer is to be a throwback to scratch that itch that people have.

By not doing it (and by being completely piss-poor at everything anyway), there's no point to it.

The demo will come out for everyone else later, but before the game's actual release, if I understood correctly. The people that pre-ordered only got access to it sooner.

It's very sound logic. In a time where a thousand bland, boring, samey shooters that work as hard as they can to be completely identical to each other, Duke Nukem would have to stand out as completely different for it to matter at all.

Nothing wrong with regeneration health, it's probably a good balance decision.

Two weapon limit.... eh. I'll see how well they do it.

Not cover-based and moves at a good speed, cool.

It was mediocre at best.

Twitchy, fiddly, imprecise shooting controls.
Unfunny jokes
Crap enemy AI.
Last gen graphics and sound
Awful driving
And worst of all Duke is a pussy who dies in 2-3 hits now which slows the pace down.

TotalBiscuit goes through it pretty thoroughly in his 'WTF is ...' video on it (in which he speaks while playing the game). He does complain about both of those things, but I think justifiably. He likes other aspects of the demo too (eg. it seems, at least for the PC version, the graphics aren't that bad at all on the whole).
