So how was this gaming year for you?

As a whole quite a good year.

I got Shogun 2, Bulletstorm, Shadows of the damned, Sonic Generations, El Shaddai, Deus EX HR, Skyrim, Uncharted 3, Socom 4, Dead Island, Duke Nukem Forever, Red faction Armageddon, and Littlebigplanet 2.

Most, if not all were at least good (at least for me anyway), so that counts for something.

Allow me to be a party pooper and say this year has been extremely disappointing for video games. To give you a frame of reference, The only games i bought this year were Portal 2, Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and Infamous 2. Other then those 3 nothing else i wanted to play has really come out this year.

Catherine, Dark Souls, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Disgaea 4, Arcana Heart 3.....yeah it was a very good year.

MW3, Saints Row, Mario Kart, Zelda remake, new Mario, Star Fox remake, and Skyrim are probably the highlights so far (At least this quarter).

This year is pretty good, overall.

Zelda Remake?

OT: The only thing that disappointed me was Dragon Age 2, but even then I still loved the game.

Ocarina of Time was remade for the 3DS.

Assassin's Creed:BH (for PC), Dragon Age ][, The Witcher 2, Portal 2, Deus Ex: HR, Skyrim, Serious Sam 3, Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

It can only go downhill from now on. Games to look forward to next year? Only Mass Effect 3. Atleast I'll have more money to spend on books and booze!

Portal 2, The Witcher 2, Anno 2070, Deus Ex, Battlefield 3, Orcs Must Die!, Minecraft, Uncharted 3, Skyward Sword, Dead Island, Dungeon Siege 3, Frozen Synapse, From Dust (Even with Ubirom), Magicka, Limbo, Shogun 2, Bastion, Two Worlds 2, and Skyrim. Plus about two dozen lower-tier/older games.

Yup, this been a roight good year, lads.

Bastion was by far the best good surprise this year.

I can't compare this to other great years in gaming because in the SNES era, I didn't have the connections(like the internet) to know when things came out so I was rather out of touch with the new games coming out.

Best year in recent memory though.

Well, there were a couple of utter stinkers like Duke Nukem Forever and Brink.

But there was also Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Portal 2, Bastion, Serious Sam 3, Dragon Age 2, L.A. Noire, Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Bulletstorm and Ico & Shadow of the Colossus HD.

Yeah, it was a nice year. Lots of good and a bit of great.

It's also a personal taste thing, so you never know what will hit you just right, but all in all, I'd call it a great year, my expectations for games is quite low, so I'm happy if I find just one game all year I really liked and got into.

This year, it was Shogun 2.

good in that because I got a PS3 AND the amazing selection this year there are just so many great agmes to choose from

bad in that I hace gaming ADD an cant stick to one and my backlog keeps getting bigger and bigger

EDIT: I wouldnt call SR3 a mayjor dissapointment..but it feels like it has a certain mssing somthing (mainly the ability to re-watch cutscenes...DAMMIT! that was my favorite part!)

Pretty damn good, I guess. With that said, I didn't get many new games this year. Mostly been catching up on older games.
Only disappointment I can think of this year: DA2.

I...seriously cannot think of any majorly amazing games that came out this year that weren't mostly more of the same for me. Skyrim is great, but it plays pretty much the same as Oblivion. This year was rather bland now that I think about it.

But NEXT YEAR, holy hell, that's gonna be some good times.

Killzone 3, Portal 2, and L.A Noire were all dissapointing to me in some way. Killzone's campaign was too short, and the multiplayer had crappy maps and a bad spawn system, while Portal 2 and L.A Noire both got boring too quickly.

I bought Deus Ex: HR almost on a whim however, it surprised me with it's immersion and flexibility in gameplay. I can't wait to finish it and play it again for the platinum trophy. I also got Skyward Sword, which I also hope to beat over this coming winter break from school.

On Black Friday, I picked up Batman: AC & Uncharted 3. Uncharted 3 is what I'm playing right now, while Batman sits on my shelf, waiting to be played and it's Catwoman and Robin DLC codes to be redeemed.

On the portable scene, I backtracked through the DS catalogue, and got The World Ends With You & Chrono Trigger over this last summer, and loved both of them. Not too long after, I bought a blue 3DS w/ Ocarina of Time 3D, and enjoyed it. After my brother went to college, taking the 3DS with him, I later bought a red 3DS with Super Mario 3D Land, which I'm having a blast playing that right now. To round off the year, I'm waiting for my shipment of Mario Kart 7 from Amazon.

Shame that Killzone, Portal, and L.A Noire all dissapointed me. But every game I bought since then has been nothing short of amazing. This is probably one of my best years yet as a gamer.

Good one for me. Arkham City, Space Marine, DoW II: Retribution. Still waiting on some money to I can pick up Skyrim. Dead Island was a let-down but you can't win 'em all I guess.

Excellently disappointing. Zelda, Skyrim, and Uncharted 3 failed to live up to the hype and expectations around them. They are all still great games though.

Dragon Age 2, Arkham City and inFamous 2 met/exceeded expectations and were this years stand out games for me. The Old Republic beta was fantastic and only time will tell if the actual game keeps going on strong.

Thankfully next year is looking very strong as well with Mass Effect 3, Diablo 3, Borderlands 2, SC2: Heart of the Swarm and Bioshock Infinite.

I only played two games that were released this year, and one of them is a borderline case.

The games being: Hydrophobia: Prophecy, and Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded.

Beyond that, all the games I played over the last year were released before 2011, but all of them were great.

Let's go through them now...

BioShock (07) - Damn fine game. I don't care if it's overrated, it's still really amazing.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (06) - Yes, I know that I should have waited for Skyrim, but it came with Bioshock, and so it was a nice graduation gift to myself. Another damn fine good game, made even better with countless mods.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (09) - The first game I bought for my brand new (Well, new to me) DS, acquired from a friend for an absolute steal of $40. Not as good as the other Kingdom Hearts games, but still really damn good.

Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded (11) - An awesome game. I like it better of the 2 DS Kingdom Hearts games.

Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories (08) - Pretty good. Haven't played that much of it, though.

LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (07) - Played both the Lego Star Wars games before, but sold them to get this for the Wii. Very good.

Prince of Persia (08) - Pretty good. Got it on a Steam sale for about $5, so I got my money's worth out of it.

Hydrophobia: Prophecy (11) - An alright game. Another game I got on a crazy Steam sale ($3 this time). Haven't played that much of it, due to a crappy computer at the time.

Borderlands (09, I think) - Awesome game. Yet another crazy bargain ($5 for the game.). Lots of fun.

Dragon Age: Origins: Ultimate Edition (09, I believe) - Awesome, awesome, AWESOME game. Got this one recently, so it's still pretty awesome.

That, and I spent most of my time revisiting old favorites, namely Mass Effect 1 and 2, Torchlight, Kingdom Hearts 1, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, LittleBIGPlanet PSP, and Final Fantasy VII on PSN.

So overall, pretty damn awesome gaming year.
