I get why you are mad, but its your own damn fault for not doing all of the side quests before the main storyline and for only using autosaves, you should be blaming yourself, not EA.

I will agree, EA hates it's customers, but I don't think what you said here is reasonable. Only so many games have content after you beat them, and most of them are either older games, or do so only as tradition to carry on the spirit of the older titles in the series.

Dragon age was one of those games that I heard great things about and thought I would love, but it really turned out kind of boring. I only finished it because I felt I had to justify what I paid for it. I liked the story and characters, but the gameplay just... just... no. Also, the color palette just made things even more dull.

Post-end-game content is not something I see as a match for RPGs in general, and especially one as boring as this. It favors sandbox games better, as long as there's stuff to do.

As for the DLC, I think that's available post-game because some of it was released after people beat the game, and people don't like playing all the way through again just to try out the DLC. Also because they want to promote it, yes, the in-game sales pitches proved that much, but I can see other reasons for setting it up that way. It's possible they didn't originally plan for there to be an post-end sequence, and didn't flag the sidequests as available then.

Anyway what I'm saying is I find this game an odd target for the kind of rant you're making.

There is only ONE reason you even get to the camp after the end slides: to give you a save that you can import into the expansion/dlc's.
I understand you want to join the Hate-EA bandwagon, but this has nothing to do with EA. You simply aren't supposed to continue playing ONCE THE GAME HAS ENDED(<- emphasis for the important fact).

I think they went with the assumption that most people had either already done all their side quests that the cared about before finishing the game, and that travelling around the world afterwards would be pointless as enemies don't respawn ever in bioware rpg's, like ME, KOTOR and well, Dragon Age Origins

If this makes any sense story-wise then if your character is alive and the side-quests don't relate much to the plotline you completed then OF COURSE you should still be able to do them. Besides, the player can do what the hell they want to do even after finishing the game.

I find the whole "your fault for using auto-saves" is just avoiding the issue to be honest. Is this a problem?

I bought the Ultimate edition new for £10 which came with all the DLC ^_^
I'd offer to lend it to you but I somehow feel that may be difficult...

I suppose you're right. Still, it is very nice.
I honestly wouldn't complain if it became the standard. I like the feeling that I can take on the quests in any order. It doesn't fit EVERY game, mind, but it fits enough of them.

I also like that Mass Effects 1 and 2 had an obvious "point of no return." If you're not going to let is go back, it's certainly a plus to say "Okay, once you go to Stavromula Beta, there's no turning back."

It's kind of the crux of the issue, really. It comes off as "how dare they build a game to something other than my playstyle, even though I have no realistic basis to expect it?"

But you also said:

Besides, the player can do what the hell they want to do even after finishing the game.
And I mean, really, that's not true. There have always been limitations on what a player can do.

Why were you expecting end-game content? Most BioWare games just end.
We still should be allowed to continue with the quests we already got!
Why?

It didn't make sense. You can just play the missions before the end game. You know you're going for the endgame at that point so just finish out the missions beforehand.

Seriously? This is the silliest BioWare rant I have ever seen. And that is really saying something.
Oh excuse me for wanting to finish the rest of the games quests and do more stuff with my character! I guess this is my punishment for only using Auto-saves!
Why yes. Yes it is. What the hell were you thinking?

Never rely only on auto-saves again. They're safety measures, not your personal checkpoints. Hopefully next time you'll learn your lesson.
If you're a console player, auto-saves are all that exist. Sadly.
Well that kinda sucks. Don't you have harddrives and stuff.
Thats not true. You can save your game as often as you really want in Dragon Age. In other games too. I don't know what the other person is doing with the console but there are saves whenever you want in many games.

It is.

I really don't see why you expected this to go any differently...if you aren't done everything you wanted to do in the game, don't finish it.
Yeah, this is my thought. You should've finished everything before actually finishing it.

I've never seen a game that lets you finish what you had left over after the ending. But I will admit that it feels like the Dragon Age games are sometimes forcing the DLC down your throat.

But just a warning, then, Dragon Age 2 does the exact same thing. After you finish it, you're stuck in one area, and the only option is to buy DLC.

What she said.

I bought DA:O on release, got to one of the endings and never returned to the game.
Then DLCs were released, then DA:O:Awakening and then in the end DA:O Ultimate edition,
including DA:O, all the DLCs and Awakening for $34.99. So ya, I bought that also and gave my releaase
day copy of DA:O to a friend.

Having learned my lesson I yet have to play Dragon Age II.
I am patiently waiting for the inevitable Ultimate Edition.

Come to think of it, I should have done the same with Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

Sorry man but this is a lesson we all had to learn. If looks, taste and smells like you are near the end of the game then it is time to do everything you need to do, there are no guarantees in life or in gaming, get those side quests done first, son!

Seeing as you can most likely pick up a used copy of the complete edition, download the DLC from the disc for free then return said game, I fail to see how this is such a huge issue...

Also: I always do EVERY quest prior to entering the final quest in any game to avoid such an issue. Just sayin'
