but it stops making sense after a short time! totally great concept gets DBZ'd too early. you can't just tell someone to watch bleach without warning them that it stops making sense after the first story arc.

Keep watching soul eater. It plays out like one big movie so it will get better. Also it is EXACTLY what you described.

EDIT: You could also try..

Heh. This is the second thread of the type I've started, but I think I've made up for it with some of my others.
It's just that I'm pretty clueless when given a bajillion choices (Netflix has a great selection that I can watch, but I don't know what's good), and I like to hear what people think before I commit to something. That's why I read several reviews before getting a game.
Well, if you want to simplify it ...

I recommend D.Gray-Man.

Gonna be honest, I didn't like D.Gray-Man that much, though that's because the manga became damn near incomprehensible (literally, couldn't read it, because the art was too cluttered).

But, it's similar. Very similar. Right down to the "Young Male Protagonist with Unusual Arm joins shady organization and combats a mysterious unspeakable evil with the help of a colorful cast of characters with abilities related to his own".

The anime's perfectly enjoyable, but I, or anyone else, will not say it is as good Fullmetal Alchemist.
well I would have to recommend kiba if you want something like he said. cool anime about a kid traveling to a different world, he has great power, blahdee blahdee blah, but the interesting thing is the personality of the main character. I don't know why but it just works well for me. also any anime with magical combat and giant monster fights is worth a shot in my books.

other than that I'd have to say basquash is probably the funniest anime I've watched in a while but I do warn you the women in basquash have by no means conservative busts.

and failing that one piece is funny but it takes a while before it gets serious but when it does well... let's just say one piece has made me cry in the past and I'm man enough to admit it.

Well, I'll recommend my personal favorites:
FLCL(by GAINAX, it's short and high octane and the dub is good to boot)
Gurren Lagann(also GAINAX, it's long and high octane epicness distilled in illustrations swimming in a pool of GAR! Sadly, IMHO dub not so good)
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi(again, GAINAX. Is there a pattern emerging? Basically a wild romp through Wonderland if Alice was actually a nerd from osaka IIRC, dub is decent)
The Castle of Cagliostro(one off Lupin the Third adventure movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Good dub, surprised it's not GAINAX, eh?)

I know it looks like I'm licking GAINAX's boots, but I loathe Neon Genesis Evangelion for reasons I really don't know. One more...

ONE PIECE

Practically no filler, but finding a good dub is damn near impossible since 4Kids ruined the show.

You could give Gundam a try. I've only seen 00, Seed, Wing, and G Gundam so I can't really say much. Although, Gundam UC looks to be good.

Otherwise, check out this new anime called Tiger and Bunny. It's on Hulu and only has 17 or 18 episodes as of now.

Cowboy Bebop never goes wrong but I'm not sure if it's your cup of tea.

Durarara! I've been mind fucked so many times by watching it and I'm only at episode 11. If you like pyscho-drama, you'll really like this one.

Gurren Laggan is a mecha anime that is some parts comedy as well. It has a nice theme and characters that are very likable too.

That's all I can think of now. Some of these shows are subbed but are still good.

Nothing that wouldn't be acceptable in a Low R/ High PG-13 rated movie, really. I don't mind gore (The Thing is one of my favorite movies), but I don't want something really nasty. I'm not generalizing about anime, here, it's just that some folks here ave different tastes, and some may recommend different styles of show.
Also, props for the Kratos avatar. I'm about 20 hours into that game, since I was stuck with just my wii and some old Gamecube games for a week.
Well, the major scenes I'm thinking of that may not be acceptable are: 1) a character gets his hand forced onto a railroad track while on a moving train, though I think most of that is shot from a fairly discretionary angle, 2) someone gets shot through the head on-screen, and 3) a few different people get tortured rather violently. So I'll let you make up your own mind on that, I suppose. I wouldn't put it anywhere higher than low-R, myself, but it has been a while since I last watched it. If that's not too much for you, then I'll give Baccano! a resounding recommendation. It's one of my favorite anime.
And thanks, heh. Tales of Symphonia is a great game, even if it is a bit old.
That sounds fine, really.
Sounds about as bad as the shows I watched when I was ten (mostly Stargate, so no problem there)
I've got some free time tomorrow that I should put into that game before I go to work.
Just wondering, but about how many hours are there total? Since I'm at about 20, and I'm up to the first time in the sewers under the city in the alternate dimension, I'm guessing there's 40 more hours or so? The back of the box says over 100 hours, but that probably takes into account everything needed to 100% the game, which I don't plan to do my first time through.
Okay, I figured I'd be better safe than sorry- as you said your mom watches over your shoulder, and some people's parents can be rather uptight about violence.
Well, I know my solo playthroughs both took about 40-45 hours total, and I never bothered with 100%-ing the game. So I'd guess around 20-25 more hours. But seeing as I can't remember how long I had played when I was actually at your point in the game, I could be way off. I apparently have a habit of going through RPGs fairly quickly.

Well I'd recommend Gurren Lagann if you want to watch one hell of an awesome Anime, but define "Nothing too Sexual" considering the fact that one a few of the female characters have... *Ahem* Generously sized cleavage. >.>

It's a bit difficult for me to recommend an Anime unless I know exactly how violent or sexual is considered 'appropriate'

A few that I'm sure would be okay is "Elemental Gelade" (A light-hearted, entertaining, 'adventure' series), Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star, and Haruhi Suzumiya (All of them are "Slice of Life" animes, although the last one has a tendency to take a few crude jokes at one of the character's expense)
If you've watched the Stargate TV shows, that's a good frame of reference. I just don't want to reinforce the "animated porn" idea with my mom, who will loudly as "WHO'S THAT?" whenever she sees a female character in a show or movie I watch, no matter the situation.
You know how moms are.

and at least get to the forth episode of soul eater, That's when the plot starts to kick in. You have to at least meet all the main characters
I'm not sure he should. Because the series ending screwed up absolutely everything that had been being built throughout the story. It's honestly the worst ending to an anime I've ever seen. It's so bad that it almost negates the rest of the plot, which was actually pretty whimsical and in parts, very dark and interesting.

It's bad enough, I'd tell them to avoid getting into it to dodge the inevitable disappointment
I can forgive the ending because of all of the awesome that happened slightly beforehand. I think that the Brew combined with 90% of the final battle was truly epic. I understand the disappointment but since I over-thought the ending into oblivion I can say the Kishin is corrupt because of his own fear, so seeing courage in the face of insurmountable odds completely negates everything he believed about strength, making him think he hasn't progressed beyond his original fears, and lets his weapon turn against him.
Or they could have gone with the logical final attack and just had Maka use a chain resonance by linking with every soul the Kishin ate.
Actually the latter sounds a bit more epic.

Fairy Tail is a must, it's one of the best animes I have seen. It's got action, interesting plot points, the characters all have unique and strong personalities and its bloody hilarious! I also recommend Ghost in a Shell that's just brilliant. And if you have time Afro Samurai, it's a tad violent but the action scenes are some of the best i've ever seen in an anime never mind a western one

I have to third Baccano!, it quickly became one of my favorite anime after I watched it and it's one of the few I own. It is violent, but it's mostly blood, nothing too gross. And you said you are a dub fan, I have to second the notion that this is THE best dub I've ever seen. It helps that this series is set in America.

And Conqueror of Shambala is a must.

It's not just the Disney style theme of the 'pure of heart' ending that screwed it up.

The fact that Maka turned out to be a weapon herself completely negates the point of soul. He just becomes a superfluous extra. And it kinda crushes all of his character development.

The ending just isn't redeemable. And it squashes everything that happened leading up to it.
dude you really should use a spoiler tag for the end twist to an anime. that's like a textbook definition of a spoiler.

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi is really good. Busou Renken is also really good, until the end. Bleach is good up until the Soul Society arc ends around mid 90's or so. Read Bleach if u want to avoid all the filler arcs. Some of the Gundam series are good, Gundam 00 without the movie, Gundam UC, Wing

Aha, good pun. *bro-hoof*

Soul Eater though, it's one of my favorite animes, you will really start to care about the characters and it seems to be exactly the show you are looking for.

I'd suggest:
Code Geass
Code Geass R-2
Fortune Arterial
Strike Witches & Strike Witches 2 (Echhi, but I liked them, they have decent action, and a heartwarming story)
Air Master
Fairy Tail
Demon King Daimao (Again, echhi, but nice story and action)
Asura Cryin' (Second Season ruined the story, don't bother with it, take the ending of season 1 as the end of the series)
Blue Exorcist
Beezlebub (Odd, but quite humorous)
Gosick (Give it until episode 3 or so before you decide if you like it or not)

lol. nel's cute and everything, but it's all filler after the first arc, which i'm not going to talk about in case the OP wants to see it. but you know the one and everything after it is kind of silly. funny at times, but he should have ended it while he was ahead.
