I'm curious what people come up with as I'm designing a justice system for an RP.
What kind of RP?

I'd just like to know some time settings, how advanced species, only humans or different races?

Then I can pick one, imagine what kind of world we're talking about, and make the punishment accordingly.

Thanks!
it's a fantasy rp where humans are very rare: primarily myth races and furries basically.
Fantasy world eh...

Then I'll just come up wit something....

Every crime has its own mark (like a tattoo) and for all the worst crimes (your list abvoe and maybe a few others) gets you branded + a jail/rehab sentence of 10 years.

Now all you need to do is start designing the marks that will be burnt on to people :)

Jesus Christ on a unicycle, I'm really starting to lose hope in humanity after reading through this thread! I'm just horrified by how many people want to revert to archaic and barbaric forms of "justice".

Blind 'em. Rape them back. Castrate them. That's literally all I'm getting from this thread.

I don't really remember who said this (it was either Voltaire or Yahtzee) but my let me show you my opinion on this:

Rehabilitation<<<<<<<<<<<<Isolation<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<(etc...) Punishment

You may have got that last bit the wrong way around. I remember when Yahtzee wrote that too: rehabilitation comes first, followed by allowing for the wishes of the victims, with vengeance coming a distant third.

But yes, public perceptions of justice are often rather isolated, I guess, from criminology or law. It isn't just this thread, although I'm hoping that people are just fooling around.

And it's partially why many politicians tend to harp on tougher sentencing during the run up to elections in order to score free points.

Rape. Castration is the method. This removes their ability to repeat said crime, and we dont want rapist breeding anyway.
Uhm...

Generally, castration only means removing the testicles. You can still get an erection after losing your balls.

Also, how will you apply that when it is a woman getting convicted of rape (happens a lot less, but still happens, so you need a plan for those exceptions).
Castration does remove testosterone from the system so it makes people less aggressive and less desiring of sex which may make the subject less likely to rape again. However I think I have read somewhere that lots of incidents are in fact about other things than sex such as power, mother issues, abuse, feeling impotent (castration would probably increase this feeling) and trauma. So I agree with you.

I'm for a system kinda like the one we have. Make judgements based on situation. Focus on rehabilitation over punishment.
Ah, so it's about the "drive" to rape, not the "tools" to rape.

In that case, I would imagine taking someone's testicles away would indeed decrease lust, but probably increase bloodlust. As in "going on a killing spree because the system took his balls away."

So yeah, same here, rehabilitation would probably be the better of the two. Even though results can be argued with, at least there's less chance of actually making the problem worse.

Because all rapist are men.
Surely modern medicine knows how to solve that problem. besides, not getting its victims pregnant is always a bonus.

Also you say it as if there were no ways to make women loose the sex drive.
It's not about the sex drive. Honestly, I can't even recall an instance where rape was committed just because the assailant was horny. It's about revenge, hate-crime, oppression, power abuse, being a socio- and/or psychopath. It is using sex as a weapon, they are messed up in the head. You take away their ability to "perform" and they'll probably just grab a crowbar and beat a couple of people to death with it. Punishment begets anger, we need to rehabilitate. (And if no rehabilitation is possible, execution, but that idea might be a bit controversial...)

Its not about sex drive most of the time (i believe statistics show sex drive is at fault for less than 20% of cases), however you cant rape some one if you dont have the means to, you know.

Rehabilitation is always preferred, but it is my personal (and unpopular here) belief that not everyone can be rehabilitated.
the world does not seem to think rehabilitation is preffered though, well, at least not the justice system. they seem tos hoot down every project attempting rehabilitation in jails.
