Shocker. I'm at this very moment taking my first steps as a console gamer and feel great about it. Though I might lack the knowledge of the games for the PS2 so I'm asking for guidance in this crucial moment. I need more tips about which games I'm going to buy, loan or rent.

Here follows a long list of games that I already have on my eventual playlist:

God of War I & II
Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City & San Andreas
Killzone
Black
Guitar Hero I & II
Metal Gear Solid II & III
Okami
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Resident Evil 4
Call of Duty 3
Ratchet & Clank
Devil May Cry

So what am I missing out, what more should I buy? As a warning, JRPG are a No Go, forcing me through Kingdom Hearts are painfull enough for the moment and might also mention that I already got Psychonauts for the PC. Other than that I'm fairly open-minded.

EDIT: Anything with action will suffice but I really enjoy deep games too, as long they aren't JRPG. I shall stand eternal strong!

Shadow of the Colossus is on your list. Good, good...

Play Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and its' sequals if you enjoy the first. It's a lovely game.

Get COD 1 and 2 first, just so you know where the story is going.
Otherwise, what genres are you looking for?

The Legacy of Kain games were pretty decent. Bully, unless you have one of the later versions.

Also the original Monster Hunter.

Gungrave: Overdose, and if you can find it the original Gungrave

Also good luck finding a copy of Ico and not needing to mortgage your house to afford it.

Frequency. Amplitute is not as good. You will only like this if you like rhythm games.

Not even I can stand against so much hype and praise Shadow has got so...

...and never thought of Prince of Persia before. Good tip.

Been a Call of Duty fanboy since 2007 so I'm just buying to get my collection complete.

Get Devil May Cry 3.
It is a prequel to the first one, so you don't need to worry about story sequence, and it, in my opinion, is the best in the series.

I'd also recommend the entire Jak and Daxter series, as well as the entire Ratchet and Clank series.
Also, Star Wars Battlefront 1 or 2.
Both are great.

if you can, find a game called "Stuntman". If you like driving games, you'll love this. (Not the second one though, it sucked)

Also, Gran Turismo 4. It's got to be the best racing simulator for the PS2 out there.

Not all JRPG's are like Kingdom Hearts. >_<

OT: Get Star Wars Battlefront I and II. Those games are amazing.

Funny thing is that Stuntman was included in the buy... and Gran Turismo 4 looks sweet, it goes under "might buy".

I know all JRPGs are not like Kingdom Hearts. They are worse.

The only reason I play it is that it was included in the buy, misguided nostalgia and my love for anything with Donald Duck.

OT: And since several seems to like Jak & Dexter, what is it like? What kind of game? (Yes I know it's developed ny Naughty Dog.)

Devil May Cry 3.
Fatal Frame series.
Silent Hill 3&4.
Katamari Damacy.

But if I were to point one, just ONE game that you absolutely must play...

Yes, yes, I know, picture of the GC version, but the cover art is cooler than the PS2 version, so meh.

Worse as in emo, angsty, teenagers running around with 10 foot long swords?

Silent Hill 2. Believe Yahtzee. Also, Soul Calibur 3 for play with friends and Viewtiful Joe for some movie humoresque. All can be found in any second-hand game shop for 5?.

Yes, I have enough prejudice against the genre so I would call it that.

You're kidding, I hope.

Drop Killzone from the list. As much as I liked the second one, the first instalment was atrocious. Replace it with one of the TimeSplitter games.

A few more possible additions:
Gran Turismo 4
Ace Combat (numerous games of this franchise)
Yakuza 1 and 2

Thought about Silent Hill too, but wasn't sure if you needed to play the first one first (which is a bit of hypocrisy since I've choosed to buy MGS 2 & 3)
