if it were up to me, i would string them up by their ankles and cut off their hands so they could be left to bleed out. and i mean ALL of them. Anonymous is not a silent defender, they are a obviously a group of bullies who occasionally throw temper tantrums when something dare threatens their freedom to post child pornography...
that article is pretty incorrect concerning the "you dun goofed up" part. also, i don't think you really know who anonymous is. they're not a group of returning users, they're a random group of people. the people that are responsible for one action are not the same as those of another. so you can't say "all", because that would mean you'd arrest the people who hunt down animal abusers (something anon is prone to do) and have nothing to do with any of the crimes you mention.
so... what? they're like Cerberus from mass effect?

Anon is probably consisted of 2 groups.

group a: The 4chan "tits or GTFO" kinda guys. you know the ones.
Group B: A group of hackers who wish to stand up and protect wikileaks ect.

make up your own mind about them. I'm not saying one member is in one or the other. But anon is probably fairly large.

Niether of them are perfect, far from it. just dont go hating something you don't understand. Unfortunatly being Anonymous it's likely no one really understands. I certainly don't I'm just evaluating and making educated guess' at what anon is.

See, while it was 'Anonymous' that sent the threats, it does not mean that it was all of 'Anonymous'. They're not a structured group, they're just a collective that gets together when something sparks their interest, or ire.

They're not all bad, just look at how they've torn a new one in Scientology's side over the years.
You could say the same thing about their recent DOS attacks. Its not the majority of Anon that is doing the attacks, but they're all willing to take credit when the time comes. While the majority did not send death threats, they did harass her endlessly. I'd say that alone is pretty evil.
Oh you are quite correct. What some of them did was extremely dickish and they need their heads examined. I was just playing Devil's Advocate, sort of anyway.

That took very long. It's pretty common knowledge that many /b/ members are bastards. That's why they're called/b/tards, after all. Other 4chan boards tend to have less assholes, though.

Well maybe people should read some more stuff that goes on in the world to avoid such surprises.

Yes they are a group of bullies that target anyone and everyone that gives them a reason for it, as it was written oh so many times.

Call me callous, but I am completely indifferent; 4chan is not the shitstain, /b/ is. And not all Anon are paedophiles in disguise, a lot are really laid back folk. The problem is their humour is so warped and black to the outsider it looks like Hell on Earth.

Which it is. Welcome to the Internet, kiddo, because Anon will always be here, regardless of how the rest of us feel.
At least until the CIA operatives find them, anyways.

Welcome to the internet my friend.

The irrational desire for real-world justice will pass.

(Pro-tip: Anon really is relatively anonymous and, while it would be simple enough to track any one down, it would be a massive waste of time to find anything resembling a significant minority of the users, many of which being entirely innocent to make the matter even more pointless. Given how little cohesion there is to the group, I highly doubt any authority will ever bother to try. At least I hope they don't waste that much time and money using MY taxes.)

Please read my previous post before posting anymore of this crap. This refers to all of you. You are just embarrassing yourselves, because you take article from humor site as legitimate news article.

aheh. Aha. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Many people have already said what's wrong with the article, so let me just go through the bullet points here and maybe pick up some of the ones that might have been missed:

1. Cracked barely did any research for the whole article. See also: the pages where they solely blame NBC for the second Late Night War (Which isn't entirely true), their talk of how the big fuss over the iphone 4 was crap because "all smartphone antennae do that" (they don't), and the like.

2. Anons made harrassing phone calls and ordered pizzas, as they usually do when someone's being a pain in their ass or really stupid. That's all. According to the sheriff's department who are assigned to the case, no death threats have ever been made towards the girl and her family. The family has publicly stated there are death threats, but without any record of them, there is no evidence death threats were ever made.

3. As per the mistakes in the article: Eleven or twelve years old is not an "elementary school girl", Slaughter was (according to her pictures and other things up before all this sturm und drang) quite seriously posting salacious pictures of herself, as well as starting crap with just about everyone. Contrary to what their egos would have them believe, internet celebrities are not popular everywhere on the internet. Telling people "Get aids and die" isn't really a way to make friends, either.

So...yeah.

At some point, everyone should realize that Anonymous is neither good not evil. They aren't all pedophiles, they aren't all defenders, etc.

Anonymous is actually one of the purest form of chaos our there. There is no good or evil, they just do whatever they want to do at any point in time. If Gene Simmons wants to sue everyone who downloads, they'll shut down his site. If a woman wants to throw cats off a bridge, they'll find her and screw with her. If Boxxy puts a blog up, they'll go apeshit crazy. And if a little girl calls them a loser, they aren't going to be bothered by sending death threats.

The point is, Anonymous is a huge collection of people. And it's not all the same people doing the same things, so you can't call all of Anonymous this or that. Some people might do one thing, some might do another. The only thing that really makes them into one entity is the fact that they are all, indeed, anonymous.

This is normal for /b/, actually. I'm unsurprised by this.
I second this notion.....

BTW, who remembers Dusty? Anon showed their good side then right?
No. Can you explain it?
Short version: Kid abuses cat on video and /b/ got him arrested.
Long version: http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Kenny_Glenn_The_Animal_Abuser if you want to know about all of the details

Anon is not definable. It is in all of us, in you and me, and in nature.

No but really, anon really pisses me off sometimes. They have no reason to do stupid stuff like this, but I do like their attacks on Scientology.

You mean you didn't know this? Anonymous has never been some kind of philanthropic organization of freedom fighters, their credo has been pretty straightforward on this account. As much as anything they are out to cause chaos. A good part of the reason why they defend freedoms are because those are the freedoms that allow them to do the things that they are doing. They pretty much feel they have the right to be a giant group of trolls, and are pretty honest about admitting it.

Remember, after that big stink about the kid who was allegedly carried away on a balloon, and it turned out to be a hoax, they sent him a free pizza for being a great troll.

I'll also be blunt about something else, the hordes of /B/ and Anonymous are not the same thing. The Insurgency and Anonymous are not the same thing. These things can overlap, but have distinct identities. 4chan is merely one places where members of Anonymous have been known to hang out, and where the name presumably comes from.

That's the tao of these groups (so to speak) on one hand they are fighting for free speech issues, on another hand they are trolling kids like Jessie Slaughter (who admittedly was asking for it going by her site and the way she presented herself online).

In the things I've been critical of Anonymous for, like defending Wikileaks, a big part of it is largely that by doing this they were actually shooting themselves in the foot. The groups that benefitted from these actions (free speech angle aside) mostly being oppressive goverments of exactly the type that seek to create the enviroment that Anonymous seeks to prevent for it's own interests. Ironically being one of those cases where reality clearly isn't straightforward as your pretty much acting against free information to protect the existance of free information.

These are my thoughts on the subject.

While not perfect, I recommend actually looking up Anonymous on "Encyclopedia Dramatica", that pretty much gets down to the nature of the organization.

I think the problem is that Anonymous has gotten a Robin Hood reputation it was never really seeking out. What's more Anonymous hardly cares about public approval.

Yes, because every board on 4chan contributed to this and everyone who participated in this came from 4chan.

/b/ is the asshole of the internet, that much is true. But 4chan is more than just /b/, there are other 4chan boards who despise /b/ as much as people on here do. But of course, individuals such as yourself haven't even visited other boards for longer than 3 seconds (if at all) and assume they are all like /b/.

I admit that I used to spent a lot of time on /b/, but got bored of it and started spending more time on other more interesting boards, so I haven't witnessed the threads that started all of this. While I agree that they went a bit over the top with the trolling, Jessie Slaughter was obviously a complete idiot and an attention whore, someone who we can really miss on the internet.

Anonymous isn't as much of a collective as they pretend.

One guy probably asked her to, she called him a loser, and he told the others some other version of events and they all rallied against her. Mostly because they just tend to like to rally against, not for any real reason.

Probably less than a quarter of them even participated. It's like if the first guy was American, you propose doing all of that to all Americans.

You don't get it at all.

Anonymous is not structured in any way, what a few do in no way represents the group as a whole.

Also, your threat is just as bad as their threat.
