Evening,

A friend of mine is emigrating and has left me his GameCube and a copy of "Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance" to look after for the next few years or until he gets deported. As I only have the 1 game and have not had extended access to a GameCube before I was wondering if you, the good people of the escapist could recommend me some games?

Thanks in advance,

Fimbulvetr

metroid prime 1 and 2
eternal darkness: sanity's requiem
f-zero gx
viewtiful joe
luigi's mansion (its on the short side though and easy)
mario kart double dash (although its on the expensive side)
metal gear solid: twin snakes (heard its really good and i played the ps1 version)

and of course people will say:
zelda: wind waker and zelda: twilight princess

i'm sure there are others, but i only got a 'gamecube' with my wii, and i had a ps2, so there are other good cross-platform games i haven't mentioned i'm sure.

If you like Sonic, there is Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. I am a huge fan of those two games. I also second the Luigi's Mansion recommendation.

In addition to what ultrabiome said off the top of my head, I would also recommend Super Mario Sunshine, Starfox Adventure: Dinosaur Planet, and Sonic Adventure 1 and Sonic Adventure Battle 2 (No matter what Neronium or Shrekfan may say I still loved them XD)

Those should tie you over very nicely, though I could PM you once I can go back and look at my games library if you want.

[sub][sub][sub] Seriously though, if nothing else, do what Ultrabiome says and get the Prime games![/sub][/sub][/sub]

Somehow I always keep forgetting about that one. It was so much fun. It even defaulted me with my favorite eveelution :)

Closest thing we've ever gotten to a proper console Pokemon game.

I might play it again over the summer. Going back to the under will be fun. Best city in pokemon ever!

If you can locate Lost Kingdoms 1 & 2, do so. They're masterpieces. They're real-time action games based around capturing monsters and putting them into cards, but it's handled so well that it's incredible. The enemy designs are great, the gameplay is engaging, and the cards are all interesting to use.

Eh, Twin Snakes is "ok" at best. It's a remake of MGS1 and brings all the gameplay from MGS2 to it. However, it was directed by Ryuhei Kitamura who for some reason really, really likes back flips. As he has Snake perform one in nearly every cutscene. The action scenes get a little too much like a John Woo film, it hurts.

Eternal Darkness. One of my all-time favourite games.

others;
Metroid Prime 1 and 2
Pikmin
Super Smash Bros Melee
Sonic adventure 2 battle
Tales of Symphonia
Super Mario Sunshine was okay too, as is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
And yeah, Luigi's mansion.

Eternal Darkness! One of the most in depth, mature games I have ever played, and it's on a Nintendo console! What are the chances. I've been harking over a sequel for years, damn you silicon knights, and your churning of crap in recent years!

Metroid Prime is an Essential game for your Cube, Prime 2 not so much, but it's great all the same.

Also Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean is an amazing underrated RPG, I would even go as far as to say it's better than Final Fantasy X. One of my all time favorite Cube games, and perhaps one of my favorite RPG's of all time.

No whiny emo kids, No cliche plots or tropes, and that's what makes it so compelling. It also lasts a hell of a long time too...

Definitely second Metroid Prime 1 and 2. They are truly masterpieces!

F-Zero GX is one of my favourite games, and arguably the best sci-fi racer to have been made. It's hard as nails and really exciting. I've still not managed to finish it, as it constantly kicks my ass at the later levels.

Also, how can I forget Smash Bros? SSBM is a great choice; especially if you have some extra controllers and a bunch of friends.

TBH I have no qualms with the VA of Baten Kaitos, but I do know people dislike it for some odd reason.

The Gamecube may have been the least relevant 6th gen console and a failure, but I had some of the best times in gaming on it.

Super Smash Bros. Melee - Probably the system's best game. It's loaded with stuff to do, even for single players, and the roster is pretty well rounded for the time, though some characters are near impossible to unlock without a guide.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door - The best Mario spinoff, if ya ask me. It's not anything you haven't seen before, but it treads its ground well. Just be warned there's a lot of fetch questing late in the game.

Super Monkey Ball (1 or 2) - I have some fond memories with these. It's a fusion of party and single player where you can do the single player mode(think 3D Marble Madness) to unlock the party games, which are loads of fun.

F-Zero GX - By the same devs with the same engine, think puzzle racer, as most of the challenge is trying not to fall off. You can also make your own vehicle, if you're into that thing.

Luigi's Mansion - A launch title, so expect some showboating of features. At least Luigi got the spotlight for once. It's short though.

I thought it was pretty wooden myself. But personal preferences and such.
