i almost got mugged twice, once when i was 18 by a bunch of 12 year olds(one of whom had a really tiny knife). I didn't take them seriously and started laughing until the one with the knife tried to slash me and i knocked him into the nearest wall and ran for the arriving train.
the worst thing was that the train of moving in the wrong direction, it was the last one on the line for that night and it took me 2 hours longer than i had planned to get home.
the other time was last summer when i was with my friend who is a trained soldier. Otherwise i probably would have lost a lot of electronics that day.

I have 2 stories relating to this. Though my own personal experience is a bit useless but I suppose it's something.

I was about 17 and two little kids (This may sound kind of pathetic but at least I'm honest) who were about 13, came up to me with bats (one said he had a knife but I think he was bluffing to sound tough or something) and wanted my mp3 player. I told them to get lost but of course they didn't but luckily my friends house was nearby so I got there as quick as I could. A bit of a useless story but it is messed up how people, especially kids, resort to this kind of behaviour. I mean seriously, trying to forcibly take someones stuff because you want it? What is that about?

Also a friend of mine got held up by a junkie with a dirty needle for money. All he had on him was a bit of change so luckily he didn't lose anything valuable.

Well, I'm anti mugging, having been held up at gun point a block from my house before and having my money taken. On the other hand, as to the story... pics or GTFO
I'm not sure if you're really serious, but who the fuck has a camera man when they're getting assaulted. Doubting someone should never happen unless you have factual reason not to. Otherwise, apparently we're saying fuck you to any victim without a witness. Including a multitude of serial killers.

Wow, th-that's impressive.

In your position, I'd have been fucked.

Still, people suck. People murder other people to gain, even little trivial things like shoes and $10 bills.

Again, people suck.

20 feet... About 6 meters, right? So, you'd be hitting that train at about... 30 km/h. Ought to break a leg, hitting hard surface you can't even roll on to lessen the impact force.

Mate, that's a normal day for me.

On a good day after my shoes get stolen I jump onto a moving train then have to limbo for an hour as it goes through a tunnel. I then leap off the train as it derails and flies into the grand canyon, After barely leaping the grand canyon these guys appear, they are holding gatling guns and start shooting so I have to throw my socks at them to blind them and give them a roundhouse kick to the face.

The mafia turns up but most of the time I don't have to deal with them cos aliens usually invade, only this time they were running 5 minutes late (one of them got indigestion at the maccas located on the moon) so I picked up one of the gatling guns from the unconcious dudes and starting firing but all I heard was click click click so I tossed it away and started to run at them and manage to put my kung fu skills to use and incapacitate the mafia boss and his goons. I then steal their pimped-out mafia car because the aliens have arrived...

...then things start to get interesting...

Some people just have the "tough gene". My grandfather got his arm slashed badly in a fight and still won. He passed this gene to my mother who got into a fight and won...while pregnant with my big sister. She passed it to my sister who is a tough SOB herself. The gene skipped me though. I'd rather avoid confrontation...but I'm sure I could fuck someone up if angry enough.

Sorry, but society has been that way for years. Long before you or I were born even. And it's going to be that way after we're both dead too. There is no way to end human cruelty and brutality. It's terrible and sad, but I for one believe that it's true.
Or as William Golding puts it: "Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man's heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy."

Wow, that was kinda a heavy, profound post. I feel like I need to lighten the mood somehow......... Boobies!!!

Considering that in most places on this planet having the gall to be born without a penis increases your odds of being assaulted or murdered to a near certainty for reasons unkown to God themselves, someone being robbed doesn't surprise me. Humanity is one giant crime upon itself.

Luckily I live in the best country on Earth (I think. So far) and happen to be born into moderate wealth and a comfortable upper-middle class family. Crime isn't something I've experienced much.

Twenty feet is definitely doable. I have done it in the past as a teenager. Perhaps I should throw out This Link . Some random drunk dude falling 50 feet, compared to a sober guy jumping 20. Which seems safer?

You can tell things are fucked up when you see that we are all believing that you jumped onto a train. Glad to see you're ok.

One time a hobo jumped into me and my ex wifes car and mugged me for about 40 dollars worth of liquor i had in the back seat.

Another time about 12 yrs ago I actually did the mugging(I was a rotten little shit in my youth). I rolled a pizza man after he delivered a pie in a nearby apartment complex. I got about eighty bucks from him and broke his glasses.

No. That's not how the world works. Certain people have a duty to assume truth (emergency operators -- 911, 000 -- who must legally take every single call they get seriously, no matter how many times you prank them) but for your average person, doubt is common sense. Or are you going to believe anything I tell you so long as you have no evidence I'm lying?

A con-artists wet dream.

I agree in some respect, but you're basically promoting crime. In my situation, a five versus one, which side do you think the police will take? Your stance is of the people are innocent unless proven guilty. Sadly this is the way America has gone. Sitting in jail/prison for a crime you did not commit, and then getting nothing when you were innocent. Fuck that.

Pretty fucked up when you think about those people who were mugged/killed for the iPhone they had.....

OT: I've never been mugged. I can hold my own in a fight but the thing about muggings is they aren't exactly fair fights so I don't know what's gonna happen until it does....

Good job for you, you got pretty lucky not being seriously hurt, as well as making it out alive

Has anyone else had an experience being mugged, or attempted mugging? I'm fairly proficient in Krav Maga. But taking on five people at once is quite difficult. I managed to submit the big guy, but some other dude repeatedly punched me in the head until I retreated.

I jumped off a 30 foot bridge, on to a train, so about a 20 foot drop. Jumped off, and walked home 4 miles in my socks. Sorry for the profanity, but I seriously think this is messed up.
I've never been mugged--almost was in downtown Chicago, but I walked away. I have to say: you are a badass. I bet (assuming that that pic isn't you) you look like this:

Sorry, but I simply don't believe that you are judging this right, as do a lot of other people. Cool story as it may be, I can't really believe you fell 5 metres, let alone 6.
Alright, I don't really care. Not trying to be a dick, but this was in a familiar location. I know the bridge height, and I'm not trying to brag. While 20 feet is a decent drop, it's not life threatening. Either you're misinformed, or you're calling me a liar. Either way, you're disrespectful. I wouldn't be an ass to you if you got mugged, why the hell are you doing it to me? Are you seriously such a bad person you'd pick on a crime victim?

Couple of my former friends were walking home at 1 am in the scummy part of my neighbourhood and were mugged. Had over $100 stolen off them. They were actually surprised it happened.
