It was pretty awesome, stayed faithful to the comics. Personal best movie of the year.

I know it doesn't come out in America until the 21st, so I'm here to satisfy any Dredd curiosities...

So, any questions?

Out of five stars, how many would you give it? Also do you think it is good enough for a sequel?

Confirm/deny. Does he keep his helmet on throughout the entire movie? It's probably best you answer me with spoiler tags.

On a similar note, it seems like Karl Urban has become a reliable action star. I don't think he'll every attain the level of legendary as those stars in The Expendables 2 but he's done a pretty good job in the genre, even in the more lackluster movies like Doom.

5 stars, truly fantastic.
Yes, most definitely. I believe there are idea's for a trilogy involving the cursed earth story arc and Judge Death.

For the first minute or so of the film, you see him putting his gear on. His head was in the shadows, so you don't see he face. Then he keeps the helmet on for the rest of the film. Nothing but jaw.

Wow... and you are a fan of the first. That is good news i expected bad things as it is somewhat cult even as far as the movie goes and a remake and those tend be be horrible.

It's the Raid: Redemption...IN THE FUTURE!

I'm not going to start that, though. Looks awesome.

Most of it is indoors, yes. But its COMPLETELEY different.

OT: I also give it five stars, easily one of my favourite films of the year ^_^ (and thats saying something) But im a big fan of the comics, so i may be biast!

I think having a smaller budget really worked for it. Made the film makers keep it low key, sometimes less is more.

A few small things annoyed me, but on the whole it stayed very true to the source. And in the way it was done, leaves plenty of room for a sequal.

Just one question:

Is he the law?

Stallone really had the voice for that role to make him memorable as Dredd, and the chin. Does he have the chin? Is the chin good?

As a long time fan of 2000AD, judge dredd and the megazine I can safely say that the film is good. It brings the judges, their world and toys to life.

It breaks away from the Stallone film which did everything right (apart from Stallone and Rob Schneider, let me just say the city, the look and mean machine were all bang-on before anyone says how crap it was) by stripping away the neon high rise of tomorrow and replacing it with scattered city blocks. Rather than feel like a city comprised of 2-300 floor highrise buildings holding 60000+ people it looks like a normal city with a few megablocks thrown in for good measure.

Apparently the film was made for 40-50million so I hope it does well and we get to go back to see what else they make. Urban is a solid dredd, he keeps his helmet on and when he does his whole "I am the law" speech you can actually believe that it is Judge Dredd rather than "oh looks, its stallone in a silly outfit".

Urban is an awesome dredd
Healey is a great villain
Alot of stuff feels cheap apart from the drug effects which make slo-mo look like the most awesome-sauce substance on the planet.

Chin is awesome, the look is right up there with some Bolland's / ezquerras / Doherty's work. Only thing that is toned down is the eagle and gold shoulder pads

Don't forget the present day cars and clothes, that saddened me a little too. Needed a little more fifth element there i think. The city didn't really feel as busy as it should have been. I think we can attribute it to lack of money for crazy special effects.

Is I Am The Law by Anthrax in the film? That song is essentially my only knowledge of 2000AD outside the Stallone film.

Interesting to read about this, a friend of mine's dad made it! I'm not particularly familiar with the universe, but I was thinking I might check it out just for the sake of it.

Good to know it doesn't suck.

he is a slightly more quiet law.

And the chin is very good. Urbans' cheeks must have hurt after this film.

The film seems to have most of the groundwork for newcomers too :)
