Still, I wish they got a one-on-one conversation going between Shinji and a character from the previous films to make their attitude towards him less jarring but I suppose this was the 'best' way to handle things considering the time-restraints. I hope I'm not coming off as overly apologetic of the film >.>.

Yeah Gendo at this point has him checking all the boxes. Clever bastard :p.

The next one coming in 2015 is the last one called 'Final.' Long wait and quite frankly it better be freaking amazing. Oh god, hype, no D:
If only Kaji were around, he seemed to be the one reliable adult amongst the crazies. I can't remember anything happening to him in 2.0, nor do I recall people mentioning if he'd died in 3.0 so perhaps he will be in the finale.

Meh, I wouldn't worry about coming across as apologetic, different perspectives make for good discussion, and we are all more forgiving of the things we are really into. I am just happy that half of the things I like nobody seems to have heard of so I never get into debates over them.

2015 eh, and I suppose that's the Japanese release date as well. They do like keeping us waiting with these things, as the UK doesn't even have a release date for this one on DVD yet. Good thing we all flew out to Japan to watch it nice and legally.
I think he's going to pop up one way or another, whether he be still alive or dead. I hope 4.0 doesn't go too crazy with flashbacks with people seem to crave so much. The less exposition the better in my opinion, it is the grand finale after all.

That's a very thoughtful and mature way of approaching discussions, thank you :).

I'll be in my last year of school in 2015. Scary D:

Sometimes I feel NGE storywriters don't actually get what made their anime show glimpses of brilliance in past series/movies, they're just randomly spamming words on a keyboard and it's pure luck whether it makes poetic sense or ends up being a fucking mess.

If Yahtzee thought the stories of Bayonetta or Final Fantasy were convoluted then thank GOD the man hasn't had to sit through an NGE marathon.

No Kaji,Touji,Kensuke,Hikari, or Pen Pen... hell barely any character development of Asuka Misato or any of the other characters, The mark 06 gets less than 2 mins of screen time after all its build up. The mysterious Mari has been reduced to sidekick bantor, the angel battles where nowhere near as dynamic as 2.22 and we miss out on the 14 years that happened. Not to mention the moon at the end of evangelion 2.22 was just fine and now its shattered and bloody...well on the positive side at least Shinji and Kaworu got some great character development but thats about it. Most of the plot points and character arcs from the past 2 films have been trashed and thrown out the window only to be replaced by some flying battleship fetish Anno pulled out of his ass. So much of the previous story of the other films has been ignored to the point that this film totally alienates itself from the fans and the previous movies, it litterally does not feel like it belongs or has any real connection or continuity to the previous films. I was looking forward to Evangelion 2.0 after the end of 1.0 and 2.0 totally exceeded my high expectations. Where as 3.0 takes a giant shit on my expectations and has the nerve to say ¨sorry guess I cant REDO!¨ I dont see how 4.0 can salvage this movie series, I just dont see how I can get the character development and interaction that I have been craving along with a ending that leaves me full and content. One good thing I will say is that Shiro has lived up to my expectations delivering a haunting and beautiful set of music that captures the depressing shit gone wrong feeling is this film.

And let's not forget that Anno still hates the fans and always will even if you love his work which I do he will still dislike you.

A little something I found a few months back on reasons of why Evangelion is what it is and why Anno hates us.

I do eventually look forward to the final movie and hope that this time they stick to what they showed in the trailer because everything that was in the trailer for 3.0 was entirely scrapped.
I was all ready to unleash a torrent of internet rage about this film, but then I followed the link and read why Anno hates me, and now I'm no longer angry. In fact I find it hilarious, when viewed as the giant middle finger that it is 3.0 is one of the funniest films I've ever seen.
I was at first angry because none of it made sense, in the way that a coherent story should, and it seemed like every scene/sequence/setpiece was needlessly full of blatant references and fanboy pandering. But that's the whole point isn't it? Its MEANT to be a loosely tied together mish-mash of pointless OTT action sequences and overly grand set pieces, with little to no coherent story/plot. Maybe some light roleplay will demonstrate what I mean:

The fans: "Hey Anno, you wanna explain what happened in the 14 years shinji was on ice? Or why all the important characters have changed completely? Or address any of the main issues that are on the minds of people waiting to see this movie?"

Anno: "Nope, im gonna make you watch shinji go all gooey for Kwoaru, with a piano, because fuck you, thats why."

The fact that 1.0 and 2.0 followed the series quite well and actually had plot and character development and all those things that make a film good was just the bait to lull everyone into a false sense of security, that was the setup, 3.0 is the punchline, and I can only assume that 4.0 will be the encore as in:

The fans: "Really Anno? Why??!?

Anno: "Yes, Really. Because fuck you. How do you not get this by now?"

Its interesting that this trilogy-format franchise reboot is intentionally terrible in the same way that the "Berserk" reboot is unintentionally terrible. Thus I feel the same about both: I'm gonna stick with the originals ;D

Ok, I just watched it and I think the movie accomplished what it was supposed to do. You cannot redo, as in you can't unwatchable this movie.I firmly believe the point of the movie is to make you feel like Shinji as your watching it. It starts and you have no idea what's going on. Why is everyone a passive-aggressive *****? They can't take 5 minutes to explain why is going on? Screw it I'm going with the voices in my head. So.... I think I'm going to learn piano. Oh shit that's not rei. Oh shit the world really is destroyed. Screw it, let's try 4th impact, maybe that'll fix it. Damn, he told me to stop, I didn't listen and everything went to pot. Who would have guessed that's what everyone meant when they said stop. Screw it, why did I do that (watch the movie), I'm just going to lay down and die. Hey, stop trying to make me walk into the 4th movie, I'm trying to die. Stop it.

I may be a little late the party but here are my two cents on the matter.

I watched the Original Series the other day. And it blew me away. Some episodes were... well, literally a metaphor; but overall it was a great watch.

Then I heard of the 'newer' versions. The Remakes. At first I though Evangelion 3 was actually a sequel to the original series. But I figured that out before too long.

So, I watched the first two remakes and they wree great. Recaptured the old series (almost scene for scene), and it seemed to explain things without 'dumbing down' itself.

And then I switched on the third movie..... Couldn't get through it. I always new Shinji was the 'whipping boy' but all the characters loved him in their own way. Especially Misato.
Then all the characters turn on him. I don't just mean in an angry but loving way! I mean it was all "fuck you Shinji, we wouldn't care less if you died".

I was left speechless. Utterly.

My advice. Ignore the remakes. First two were great, don't get me wrong, but the third one frankly destroys what they were building up to.
Remake is garbage. Do not want. You will feel atrocious if you decide to watch it.

Wow. That's a new way to look at things.

... For some reason, I keep picturing Grey Carter looking at this thread, rubbing his hands together and thinking "I am SO going to write an unfunny Critical Miss about this".
