Yeah, U of T is one of those 'ahead of the curb' school where bringing an automatic weapon to school and killing yourself is forbidden.
First it's not an automatic weapon. It's a semi-Automatic.

So he got hold of a ak-47 and then shot himself with it.Wouldnt it been easier just to get hold of a handgun as you dont normally just pick up a ak-47 on the streets.
It's as easy to get a hold of an AK as it is any other rifle. There is noting really special about the civilian model of the firearm. It shoots a 7.62x39 cartridge, which packs less of a punch then BAR in .30-06, BARs are common hunting rifles, which where once military service rifles as well. I have a .300 win mag rifle I use for hunting, .300 win mag is 7.62x67 sized cartridge.

I find it odd that he'd use an AK-47 to shoot himself.
I mean, why an AK?
Why not? He probably bought it for the same reasons half this thread is all bedazzled he used an AK in the first place. Then used it because he had it.

He got an AK47 from where exactly? I didn't think they sold them in vending machines on campus.
He probably bought the firearm legally. Why would he have to have acquired it on campus for him to use it on campus? It's not like they are rare, or hard to buy because, and this is the killer, there is nothing special about them! Amazing right? The civilian model is just an underpowered semi-auto that's got noting special going for it.

AK47? OH SON OF A *****! I want to fire from this baby too! Also... Why would you kill yourself after you get your hands on such amazing weapon? D:
Oh, I don't know if I should repeat myself again. Just read everything else. It's just a semi-auto rifle like any other.
The only advantage he might have had with it over other weapons he might have owned would be if he bought a folding stock for the gun. Then it would be easier to conceal.
I also notice nobody lists the weapon caliber I have been assuming it was the fairly typical 7.62x39, but it's easily possible this one was .223 remmington as well since they sell them in that caliber.
