Considering the next generation Sony console will more than likely be launching in the near future, I wouldn't put that significant of an investment into a PS3. Best to just get a Blu Ray player.

Yakuza Series
I love these games. Sure they have long cutscenes and weird confusing stories, but the combat is awesome and REALLY visceral.

In all of the gore fest games ive played i have never cringed as much as i do when i see a character do a special attack in Yakuza 4. Ripping the eye out of a cyclops in god of war is bloody, but this game makes the reletively simple act of kicking someone in the face cringe worthy.

Also its the only modern game series i know of that doesn't dub over the origional japanese voice. It's all subtitles.

I'm a PC gamer at heart and I can still point you out to a couple of reasons to own a PS3 (wich I don't have, because it's way too expensive in my country and I'd rather spend that money upgrading my PC with more than 300 games than buying a new console and start buying overly expensive games from scratch):

-Uncharted 1/2/3

-Resistance 1/2/3

-Killzone 2/3

-God of War HD Collection/3

-Jak & Daxter HD Collection

-Sly Cooper HD Collection

-Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction/Quest for Booty/A Crack in Time

-LittleBigPlanet 1/2

-inFamous 1/2

-Gran Turismo 5 (not counting the previous paid demos)

-Metal Gear Solid 4

-Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (not really a PS3 exclusive, but certainly an amazing console exclusive)

-Twisted Metal (the new one)

-Ico & Shadow of The Colossus HD Collection

-Devil May Cry HD Collection (soon to be released)

-Silent Hill HD Collection

Ico/shadow of the colossus collection, jak and daxter collection. God of war, uncharted. There is plenty of good stuff on ps3. Ignore platform snobbery and bitching and get some good games.

Umm.. Get a cable and connect your PC to TV for movies? If that doesn't work then i'd go for the ps3.

the ps3 is still one of the highest quality blu-ray player's out there, not to mention the fact of it's ability to play the best console games out there (ico/shadow of colossus, uncharted, resistence, ratchet and clank, infamous, etc) if you can swing it then the playstation will be awsome on all fronts.

The PS3 can be used to stream media from your PC to your T.V. which is a nice feature, which most Blu-Ray players in the price range don't offer.
The PS3 also has Netflix, BBC iPlayer (not sure what services you get in the U.S.) etc. built into it.
Also the PS3's relatively large hard-drive can be used to store all your media.

Also it plays games I guess that's a nice feature too.

What about the fact that it doesn't cost much more than a decent blu ray player and it also plays games? Seems good enough of a reason to me. Not to mention that it's still one of the best blu ray players on the market.

Buy one used and save yourself some money

EDIT: Oh yeah and you can stream media to it and you get services like iPlayer and Netflix.
