Let me pan out the rest of your answers.

A large percentage will say no. Then some white people will say it is, whilst the black people that comment will find it funny.

There will also be flaming.

racism can be used in two ways. One way is for hatred and to piss people off. The other way is for comedy. The problem is that some people can't tell the difference between the two. Here is my view on race. You can't say there isn't any difference between people of different colors in social areas without being a big fat liar. We make the differences, but there really shouldn't be any type of descrimination when it comes to business. If a person can do a job than they can do a job. It shoudn't matter if they're white, black, asian, or whatever. When I say no descrimination I mean that we should just see absolutely no difference at all when it comes to business matters and we should be absolutely color blind. Thats why I don't think that businesses should be prosecuted for a lack of diversity. If they don't want to hire somebody that can do their job better than anybody else because they're another color, than that's their own problem.

I'm surprised, usually its the white kids who freak out at black jokes.

Anyway, the joke was obviously just that, a joke. It wasn't a malicious little dig with harmful intent, it wasn't even really racist. It's just pointing out the ridiculousness of stereotypes.

Reminds me of someone I knew in one of my old classes; he was black and he was having a big panic before we went into our exam. My white teacher came over to try and calm him, but the guy just says "Please, sir, please take my exam. For the love of god, can't you sit down and do my exam for me?" My teacher laughs, saying he couldn't get away with it because of his age. The student replies "Well, I've got my student-card and photo-ID from early this year, so it doesn't look much like me..."

To which I jumped into the conversation and went "Oh yeah, early this year when you were white?" Everyone laughed besides this group of white students who looked like I just ran in wearing a white pillow-case on my head and casually proposed a pre-exam lynching for good luck.

Major overreaction. Shame whilst in this day and age people can't look past obviously stereotypical jokes that were said for laughs amongst friends.

Hold on I am getting a bit ahead of myself let me set the stage first. There are two African Americans (Including me) and two Caucasians. They are watching me play [Prototype] as they wanted to see what it was like. I was far enough in [Prototype] where I could steal identities and what not. We were making jokes about the ridiculousness of the stealth consuming where even if the game said no one could see you obviously someone had to see two people somehow melt into one. I took possession of one of the many African Americans sporting a Hoody and baggy jeans and began dashing up a wall while a military offical was looking at me and did nothing.

I commented on this and said, "Ya see this is ridiculous apparently everyone can sprint up walls since this cop sounds no alarms. I mean come one."

THEN my white friend in a laughing tone says, "Well your character is black maybe the white general just figure they came out with a new pair of Nikes or something, nothing different."

Instantly three of us laugh at the corny joke finding it funny in its own way. However guess which one wasn't laughing. The other black friend. He instantly assumed it was a shoot at our race which i didn't quite understand. It was really just a corny joke. It took like 15 minutes for the guy to calm down.

So I ask; Was there anything wrong with that joke or was the guy just overreacting like we all assumed he was? Also have you ever been playing a game with mixed friends and the unfortunate idea of racism reared its ugly head?
I'm with all you guys. How dare your friend have personal boundaries! It's good that you showed no respect for him whatsoever, you totally did the right thing!

Those who are really racist see racism in every little thing. The people who were like "OMG RE5 is racist" are racist, most people see it as a game, if you look for racial tones in things, guess what? You'll find racial tones in things, no matter how little or negligible they are. The ones who claim they aren't racist after they've found something offensive for being racist are the most racist, if that makes sense.

OT: He should've seen it was a joke. Personally I get people who say the N word to me alot, I simply tell them not in my presense, not only cause the ties to slavery etc but also it's just not a nice sounding word to call someone, like ****, disgusting word.

If I can take jokes of how white I am, any one can take a joke. After all, I am a miserable bastard.

Eh, I have many Asian friends half of them don't care what you say as long as they know we're joking or trying to get a rise out of them, but some people take offense and whether you meant disrespect or not know your audience.

To him it was racisim, to the three of you it was a joke. the only difference between a joke like that and racism is the laughter. if no one laughs its racism, if everyone laughs its a joke if some laugh an some dont, the people who laugh say that the ones who dont laugh are over-reacting while the ones who dont laugh say "screw that you racist".

Make sense? I knew it wouldnt.

If i knew him i'd tell him to calm down or get the fuck out of my house. I don't tolerate people who can't take jokes, and seem to see racism in anything.

i don't live in America and i don't know any black people in person, but i think lots of them just overreact with this whole "racism" thing, i think that black people is more racist to us that we are to them
