Highly unlikely that it was caused by KFC since it takes between 24 and 48 hours for food poisoning to effect you.

That said, if you're not used to fried and fast food, the grease and way KFC is cooked could have effected you pretty badly anyway.

I went to KFC the other day, I got a Tower burger, but then when I was eating it I realised their Bucket feast for one was slightly cheaper and had more chicken in it. I got buyers remorse and couldn't enjoy my burger as much as I should have because of what might have been...

I tend to avoid fast food. Not so much because I am worried about hygiene but because of the overall bad health effects in general. I do sneak some in if I've been out drinking but at that point there is so much alcohol in my stomach that any disease causing organisms don't stand a chance.

Well, I was doing some work experience at a pet shop, and whilst there I accidently swallowed some murky fish water (a story for another day). Shortly after that I went to Subway and then as I went home that day, I became very ill with food poisoning. Chronic stomach pains and mega diarrhoea, where I walked over the next couple days would have droplets of liquid faeces, was not fun.

I can quite easily blame Subway for that, but I'm not stupid enough to.

I've only had food poisoning once when I was young (from eating a cold meat and seafood buffet), but it was so bad I think it made me develop an iron stomach and very resilient immune system.

It was bad, very bad. I first realised something was wrong when I was woken up by a sharp stabbing pain in my stomach, so I rushed to to the toilet and managed to get seated just before the explosive diarrhoea erupted, but the smell was so noxious it made me throw up.

Luckily the sink was next to the toilet so I didn't need to stand up - I just craned my neck to the side and let heave, but it some of the worst hours of my life... evacuating from both ends simultaneously and being too weak and terrified to leave the bathroom because it was the only place I could be ill without making a proper mess of everything.

I think I ended up falling asleep (or passing out from the fumes) in that hell-hole of my own making, and although I clogged up the plumbing good and proper, at least I didn't make a mess of my bed and I'm a lot stronger having survived that ordeal.

I'm sure what almost killed me really did make me stronger, because not only am I wise about bad meat and food hygiene in general (and can detect even the slightest odour of badness), I also seem to be very resilient to other forms of bacteria and poisoning.

I hoped you recover from your ordeal soon, I guess most of us are lucky that to have been exposed to fast food at a early age.

I guess the lesson to those who never been to KFC or other fast food before but still want to try it out is to eat the meal only a bit. Take it slowly for your body to handle.

Oh I suppose I should mention that when I was little eating those Chicken nuggets (the only food from Mcdonalds I ate since I love nuggets) used to give me some wicked noosebleed or at least make my nose vulnerable to it. I don't know the exact cause of it but overtime the nosebleed had became less and less (I don't have it anymore from eating those nuggets).

On Saturday I went to visit a pet breeder that I've been in contact with for a few weeks now to meet my pet-to-be (an african grey parrot if you'd like to know) and decided to top the day off by getting a hot meal rather that cook myself.
So I'm driving down the town looking for a local cafe where I can get a sausage sarnie or whatever and end up passing a KFC restaurant. I had never eaten KFC before but I decided it would be nice just to treat myself for once, boy did I ever regret it.
Immediately after eating it something just tasted a little weird but I didn't think much of it, I figured it was the overuse of grease and oil (which it probably was) and decided to finish it up at home.

To put a long story short, at 3am on Sunday morning I got what was without a doubt the worst food poisoning that I had ever experienced in my entire life. I feel rather embaressed to describe what happened to me but I think it would be a good idea just to serve as a warning to anyone not used to fast food thinking of trying some.
Ok, well it started with me waking up with the uncontrollable urge to puke up and sadly I never made it to the bathroom in time, I figured that was the end of it and I even felt a little better. It wasn't over, the next 24 hours was filled with migranes, chills and a throat red raw from throwing up the whole time. I know that situations like this calls for you to drink fluids but it would only take one sip and I'd be bringing back up. Let me tell you, kneeling over a toilet that was blocked up with your own poo to throw up in is no pleasant experience. Yes, this did include explosive diarrhea which I had never felt before. 10 hours into the ordeal and I had such little energy left that all I could do was lie there messing myself and my floor up.

Strangely enough, after doing a quick google it turns out I'm not the only one to go through this. so escapists, any similar stories to share? I never knew just how bad fast food was for the human body and vow from this day forward never to eat any again. Sure you could adapt to it which I'm sure will be a common excuse, like Africans adapt to dirty, infected water but why should I have to?

Thankfully I feel a little better now as I type this, although I still feel weak and have chills so bad that even my heater at full power does nothing to help.
You should seriously consider the possibility that it wasn't the KFC that did you in, but you could have contracted Salmonella from visiting the pet breeder and handling your Parrot and/or other animals.

Exotic birds and reptiles can be a major carrier of Salmonella and if you didn't thoroughly wash your hands (very thoroughly, with anti-bacterial agents) after visiting the breeder and handling the animals (or even touching the surfaces there), then you could have transmitted the Salmonella bacteria from your hands to your KFC, which is finger food.

Even if you touched an animal/surface at the breeders and then touched your face, you could have contracted Salmonella if it was present.

Wrongly prepared chicken can also and poor food hygiene preparation is also another source of such infection, but you exposed yourself to 2 possible high risk vectors in contracting Salmonella that day, so it would be wise to consider the other possibility and act accordingly.

EDIT: You said after a quick Google you discovered you're not the only person to get sick after eating fast food, but if you also Google about getting sick after visiting a bird breeder or handling animals, you also get a lot of results... in fact if you Google "very ill after visiting bird breeder", the very first result is specifically related to Parrots (and illnesses they can transmit to humans).

Nope. And I'm pretty sure even if it did, that wouldn't stop me from going back for more.

I've eaten lots of KFC and other fast food joints with no issues whatsoever.

Well, it was your first time. One does not simply eat KFC, you need to build up a tolerance to it, just like booze and cigarettes.
This is a terribly good bit of dark humor, I applaud you good sir.

As for the OP that sucks. Last time I ate KFC was about 4 years ago, they don't exist in my area any more.

I'm pretty sure actual food poisoning lasts for a while, and you'd know if you got actual food poisoning, you lose a lot of weight by the time you've shaken it off.

What you had is probably just a bad reaction to food/the amount of grease and fat you've consumed, happened to me when i had KFC before. Food poisoning is a bacterial/viral infection as far as I'm aware and you'd know if you actually had food poisoning.

I doubt it's the specific food they gave you being badly prepared, it's probably just a reaction you have to it.

Also talking about people that are forced to drink dirty water/eat bad food in a post where you voluntarily ate fast food is a douche move.

Dude,

I got sick on a trip to Alaska. Food poisoning just like you mentioned. Evil was coming out of both ends of me for 3 days straight. Unfortunately these were the 3 days we spent 7-10 HOURS A DAY ON A TOUR BUS. We were traveling the interior of Alaska and it was hours between any signs of civilization. I wrecked that bus bathroom.

I always feel horrible after eating KFC. If it's done well I like the taste but the aftermath is too much pain to make it worth it. Within hours I usually feel nauseous like a bad hangover. Every. Single. Time. It never gave me food poisoning though.

That's why I haven't eaten KFC since lower high school.

Don't worry, those bus bathroom are just as scared of us as you are of them.

I just got over a flu my sister had, which now my dad has caught. Pretty much the same symptoms as you, only dry heaving. Dry heaving to the point of almost passing out. I couldn't feel my hands at one point.

Well the KFC in my town just reopened. The old place was disgusting and had a D healthgrade warning. So they tore it the fuck down, built a new one from scratch, got in a whole lot of new crew, trained them how to not kill people (seriously, a health and hygiene cert is now required to work there) and now its fantastic.
Sure its still deep fried everything so you have to know what to expect but now they are clean and worth going to.

I try to avoid KFC as much as I can because I always end up with a stomach ache and sometimes worse. Last time I went the chicken was so greasy that I couldn't eat it and threw it away. Haven't gone back since and don't plan to. The only thing that's eatable from there is the popcorn chicken and that's rediculously overpriced so I'm not gonna bother anymore.

I got 'food poisioning'(I'm not exactly what it was) recently after going to a buffet but thankfully I was only sick for 12 hours or so, then just felt like crap for the rest of the day and didn't really eat anything.

I've been eating KFC for over a decade now and never gotten food poisoning. Never gotten food poisoning at all in my life actually...which is strange considering the number of times I've taken a bite out of something cooked in the oven only to discover that it's still practically frozen in the middle.

Good immune system I guess.
