Okay, I'm planning on getting myself a 360 after the woes of christmas are over with.
Now, my Stepdad bought himself a PS3 for the sole reason of playing Gran Turismo 5 (Two years before it was released)and plays nothing else but that, all other times, it's a DAMN good Blu-ray player if I say so myself.
My Mother bought herself a Nintendo Wii for the pure reason of playing Wii Fit, which she used for maybe a month before finding that jogging outside works a hellova lot better, It is now being used as decorative ornament that lights up if you touch it.
As for me, I'm getting an XBox for the pure reason of online Multiplayer after finding a drawer full of great games that I don't want to play again because of seeing everything I can see out of them and realizing it would be nice to own a game I could potentially play for years. What I don't want to find myself doing however is playing Online for a couple of months before ... I dunno LARP'ing (May Buddha Kill *No*....Strike me *No*.... be very very dissapointed in me if that ever happens *Better*)

Now being on a budget, yet wanting the best, I've decided on 120Gb hard drive which leaves me money for one game and the years subscription (the wise choice budget wise as long as I do play all year, There's madness to my method). Left 4 Dead 2 if you were wondering, now here's my problem, I REALLY HATE....

HAATTEE.... War FPS's, Your M.O.D's, Your C.O.D's, Your ......Brothers at Arms (??) Really can't stand them, I can play one for maybe 20 minutes before getting sick and tired of them; Least with Zombies or Super Mutants you get a nash of extra colour and maybe a bit of humour, War FPS's to me seem to be more or less about grim, gritty, SERIOUS WARKILLIN' But when you think XBox Online, those are the games you imediately think of.

So is my investment worth it? I'm certain there are more games out there that boast a decent online community but it's kind of hard to get that sort of information from the games box or Gamespot reviews.

==EDIT(yes, already)==
To make sure it's clear, Yes I am planning to buy more games later on.

I'll most like get flamed, but Halo: Reach is a good, light-hearted multiplayer shooter. It feels more like a sport than a gritty war game.

Despite popular belief, I found the community on Left 4 Dead to be complete arseholes.
Most games I played, my team either ran away or killed me - literally leaving me left for dead =[
I did enjoy playing it with my friends, but when actually just playing online in the big wide world, the game was less than enjoyable.
So if you have a couple of friends who have L4D2, then by all means, get it. Otherwise, I'd lean away from it.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood has got a good online community, cos its a game that is actually fair for all players. But I guess that is out of your budget at the moment.

Thyunda does have a point. The Halo games do have good fun communities, you just have to be quick witted =D

Gears Of War is another fun online game, but it might not be your thing??
I'm not so wise on my racing games or sport games, to be honest...

Hope that helps a little...

I've been playing on live since the original xbox first released... There are TONS of games besides shooters. Hell my favorite game from the original Xbox was Kingdom Under Fire just for it's online play.

The 360 has loads to choose from, from the typical shooters and sports sims (Maddennnnn) to games like Red Dead Redemption and Need For Speed Hot Pursuit.

Really the online is just great, it wont stretch the appeal of a game for too long (IE you wont play that one really awesome title for 3 years straight...) But you'll always be able to play for a good month or two heavily... Put it away and then a few months later pop it in and realize it's just as fun as it was...

I really think the largest downside to a 360 is your gaming budget might increase. I can rarely rent now as most of the fun games I get my hands on I end up purchasing simply because a week or two isn't enough time with em.

But it's worth it. Even if you hate FPS.

For racing games, you have to buy Forza 3.
I've spent hours on tha racing game, it's very fun.

No, No, you got it. If anyone takes Halo UBER SERIOUSNESS, please allow me to direct you to the innumberable refrences to other various Sci-Fi movies.

It's a B movie made AAA game. Which as far as I'm concerned makes for a darn good time.

Go with the Halo games, and here's why:
Not some grim 'n' gritty war shooter. It's a slightly more lighthearted sci-fi shooter. However, Reach is sort of an apocolyptic log, but hey, it's got some likeable characters... though the only members of Noble Team who survive the battle of Reach were the most unlikeable member, and a backup member who would've replaced Emile in the event that they had to fight human insurgents (Why didn't she replace Emile after he died, though? That makes no sense). And, unlike Gears of War, it isn't all brown and gray. You can choose from just about any color on the color spectrum for your spartan/elite, AND there are entire levels that are all purple.

Very wise choice with L4D2, Assassins Creed: Brotherhood is good as well as Team Fortress 2(as is the rest of the Orange Box). But apart from those and war shooters there aren't too many others to choose from.(that are any good)

I'm completely on the Fence about Halo, I mean TECHNICALLY it is a War FPS, but it's actually got colour, some good SciFi storytelling (which admittenly, I'm not big on) and weapons that have more range than Pistol, Machine Gun and Missle Launcher. On the other hand it has the same sort of elements to it, Run to an area, Kill everything with the Gun that's ammo is found easily and occasional drive to get to point B to do the same again. The only time I've played it was an Hours Local Multiplayer Deathmatch where Halo Vets DESTROYED me. But again I'm on the fence (Not that telling me it's Awesome and then listing why, is a good way to push me into it)

Not a Racing gamer really, tried to be, but there is a point where I'm not even using the subconscience side of my brain anymore when going round the same corners either in 1st place or not being able to catch up to 2nd and 3rd.

Gears of War I'm considering, if only for it being a War 3rdPS instead of War FPS, but I'm more on the side of not getting it rather than being down the middle.

Assassins Creed 2 I was actually thinking of getting next after Money is no longer constrained, but I also worried about how long it's Multiplayer would remain at it's best as well, A fear I don't have for L4D2 for some reason because of my Hope that killing Zombies with your friends or strangers never gets old, The attraction of Co-op games to me I believe. Whilst I've heard the Online Brotherhood is quite fun, I'm uncertain of how it will hold up by the time I get it.

Heh, I'm under no illusion that the Online Gaming world is a safe paradise of players that play by the rules. I've heard how bad it gets and really it tightens the experience for me (to a certain degree) If I wanted to play with Robots who's actions where predictable, I wouldn't play online. It also lets you Roleplay a bit in L4D2 I imagine, since not every human on the planet is going to always work together and will screw you over in actual zombie-pocalyspe. It reminds me I'm playing with human players when they sometimes feel like "ruining" a game, if it got to me, I would block them and continue with a new game.

I know what you mean, but [I'm going to assume you haven't played Left 4 Dead] the game doesn't favour those who go it alone. I understand your role-playing theory, but it doesn't stand in practice.
The game is made as a purely Co-Op game. Yes, the bots are a little underwhelming in there actions, but having your team seemingly doing Speed Runs rather than actually playing and enjoying the game gets very annoying. And then when you ask them to slow down, they turn and gun you down, you get pissed off.

Maybe its just me, maybe I'm not a good team mate, but my friends would beg to differ.
I'm basically just saying "Don't be under the illusion that Left4Dead is the best online game."
I've had many more hours of fun on Brotherhood. I got it on the day of release and the Multiplayer has only got better and better...
Gears has an equally good online community, if not a little glitchy [Crossbow through wall?]

N.B. I do own Left 4 Dead 2 and do rate it highly, but I wouldn't get it unless you have friends to play it with.
