... and I'd like some advice from people who don't drink or have tried the same.
Specifically, what would you drink in a pub or nightclub to replace alcoholic drinks? I'm a Pepsi Max fan but I drink two litres of the stuff a day and couldn't stomach much more of it.
Also, do you tend to find yourself getting less enjoyment as a night wears on and people start getting progressively drunker and you're stone cold sober?
Any thoughts are welcome.
I've never drank a drop in my entire life. When I was 5 I made a death-bed promise to my aunt when she was about to expire from alchohol poisoning - she was a really really bad alcoholic, drinking vodka like water, etc, and it absolutely destroyed her, so it wasn't a difficult promise to make. Or to keep.
I'm 29 now, and I have to say I've never felt like I'm missing out in terms of the alcohol thing. I'm a bit of a fogey now (settling down and all that), but when I was younger I could go to the pub (soft drinks), go dancing and generally have a great time without needing any of it. My friends would all get drunk and I would just generally be entertained by their drunken antics.
In terms of how to replace it - Pepsi's quite a heavy drink. You'd be better looking at lighter options. Fresh orange and lemonade's nice. Or even just fresh orange. If you prefer the taste of something like Pepsi, then have some still mineral water in between Pepsis. That'll help take a bit of pressure off your stomach in terms of dealing with it.
Instead of thinking what you'll miss about it, concentrate on the benefits, like the fact you'll always be in control of yourself, so less chances for embarassing incidents.
It'll be hard at times, especially if all your friends are drinking, but if they're decent friends, they'll respect you enough to try and make it less difficult for you. Not harp on along the lines of "Go on, have a drink!" etc.
Best of luck with it!
