KILLZONE 2 and INFAMOUS!!! You already have Uncharted written down, but those two games were what I started with on the PS3 (and I loved them). No joke, KILLZONE 2 on a good HDTV, will blow your freaking mind. The graphic fidelity is just amazing.
I think I've beaten utterly to death what I think of the horror that was inFamous. Wow, everyone involved with that game EXCEPT the graphic artists/coders should be fired, then shot, then dismembered and burned to ash. That game was pathetically bad... but the graphics were some of the best on the PS3 so far, especially for a sandbox game, which are usually rather bland (see Prototype for bland graphics in a sandbox).
No, my real question is why people say this about Killzone 2. It boggles my mind in the same way that it boggles my mind the way people coo over the graphics of Gears of War 2.
Yes, playing on a big brand new 50" plasma, they look great. They are only 720p and the PS3 doesn't upscale to 1080p by default, at least my fat one doesn't... but they are so utterly bland and lifeless that I can't understand the praise. The character graphics are pretty "meh" for the squad members and the world is just grey, interrupted by the occassional brown. Granted, it shouldn't be colorful in a war game, but something of visual interest? I got through the first 4 or 5 levels and felt like I'd played the entire game in the same area to that point and was so bored out of my skull I actually sold the game back before finishing it, which is the first time I've done that... ever. In 25+ years of gaming heavily (yes, I'm older than 25).
Sharp with great effects doesn't equal good when it's compounded by "dull as a doormat." This was the same problem I had with the "Great" graphics of GOW2.
So far, I think Demon's Souls had the best graphics on the PS3 by a longshot and MGS4 had, by far, the most abominably bad (one day I'll post a screenshot of the laughable MGS4 "burning" effects.)
