I hide all my powercables for a couple of months running up to any time I have to do exams, which is pretty often.

I suppose this hiatus was more or less brought on by the thought of the gaming binge I'm about to go on... leading into the busy fall / winter gaming season I figured if I just stopped altogether I can catch up on a few things I've been putting off and then just dive in headfirst when the good stuff hits.

Well, the last game I played (Bioshock 2) was disappointing, and I haven't gotten naything new since, so I just went on hiatus because I figured I might as well.

All of it.

I've never went on a gaming Hiatus that was like "ok, you have to stop gaming now" but occasionally I lose interest and don't game for months at a time. I think I'm about to go into another of those times, as I've basically finished all the games I want to play at the moment, and every time I play something, I manage about 5 minutes before I shut it down and go do something else.

I stopped playing games for about 3 months. They were getting stale and I really needed to get my personal life on track and buckle down into a career(HA!).

It was nice, though. Modern Warfare 2 made my hands shake and my heart pound again when I got into hairy situations. It's a shame when you lose that feeling.

I never went on a hiatus, but there's been multiple time when I would stop playing for a month or so. That was mainly because nothing was out at the time that interested me. Right now there's nothing out that interests me, but lately I've just been playing old PC games and PS1/Dreamcast games to pass the time.

As for discussion, have any of you gone on a self-imposed gaming hiatus? If so, why?
Sure. I didn't even ever get a PS1. I was in college at the time and just spent a lot of time running around the city. Mind you this was 15 years ago when you could still go see good free shows in NYC and not all the clubs were for hipster dbags.

Also, I wasn?t playing much between when the ps3 came out and when I actually bought one (after that first big price drop). The problem is that there was a large gap of time between a lot of great quality games coming out on the ps2 and great quality games coming out on the ps3. When the next gen consoles launched there was just a whole lot of crap being unloaded and even the games everyone called ?great? were either really short and/or had as about as much depth as a kiddie pool.

And then there was that big gap of time between Atari killing the industry and Nintendo reviving it.

So yes, go for it. You probably wont miss much.
Yeah, I have to agree with you on the stagnant launch titles for the PS3. Made my decision to get a 'Box so much easier. It wasn't until 2008 that PS3 started coming around.
I wasn't even impressed with the 360 titles at the time. Gears was pretty cool but it was way too short.

But to be honest, I haven?t really been too impressed with the console exclusives on any of the consoles this generation. Not that they?re bad, but they don?t stand out as much as the best multiplats. They all seem so 2 dimensional with a couple of exceptions: Fable 2 and Valkyria Chronicles.

Wait, you're going to stop playing games for a few weeks.....And this is actually a big deal to you?

Wow. I think you might want to lengthen that Hiatus of yours.

My thoughts are going on a six month gaming hiatus. Purely to save money. They I can buy all my game pre owned off gamefly for far less money. Of course this idea would require that I stay far far away from this forum otherwise I would never enjoy a story in a game again.

I did in fact go on a self-imposed gaming hiatus once. I did it back when I first started college. I was not used to the work load required back then, and knew that if I kept up my regular gaming habits my grades would suffer. So I just did not play games for a while (it only lasted a couple weeks though).

I haven't really played videogames for about a year. When I moved the PS3 stayed at my brother's, so I can't play it anymore. My roommate has a 360 which we eventually play, but it just isn't the same.

Yeah I took about 6 months off a few years ago. Just because I got bored of them for a while and didn't really feel like playing anything. Then a new game I was interested in came out (I forget what it was) and I got back into them again.

I often have a week off now and then just because I don't feel like it. But that was the longest I have gone since I started gaming

I went for years without gaming. That dark period of time after I played the first Halo and died a little inside.

*sniffle*

To be honest, not being a PC gamer meant that Oblivion was the major motivator. Oblivion and Halo 3. I had the original XBox and got it for Morrowind, Halo and KOTOR, so I was expecting continuations of those on the 360, and it delivered. But I've just recently caught up on the releases of last year... though this year's crop of titles doesn't give me much hope for playing anything good in February :).

On the 360? Does it still have the bad lag issues?

I have my times when I play more and times when I play less depending on my situation in life and if any new games have come out or if I happen to re-notice an old game on the shelf. I have had many periods of no gaming but non of them were "forced", they were all a period when I had other, at that moment, more meaningful stuff to do.
