Put up your retard shield. WoW has almost as many morons as Xbox Live, so be prepared to use the Report Spam and Ignore features liberally.

Find a good guild or play with RL friends. WoW is not a game that's very enjoyable for the solo gamer, at least not at max level. Without good people to play with, you're forced to PuG; a fate worse than death.

Check www.wowhead.com, www.ElitistJerks.com, and www.wow.com for information, guides, class help, and everything in between.

Decent classes for beginners;
Druid, Paladin - Those are quite versatile, and will give you a fairly easy time while leveling. Seeing how both can also fulfill any role in PvP and PvE, you can try a lot of different things and see what you like the most.
Hunter, Warlock - Both use pets to soak up damage and tank for them, making it fairly simple and safe classes to level up with since you're standing a mile away from danger shooting arrows/spells at the enemy.

Less decent classes for beginners;
Mage - At lower levels (up to 30-35) you'll run out of mana all the time, so you'll spend a lot of time replenishing mana (doing nothing while your character sits there drinking water) It gets better at higher levels, but chances are you won't be patient enough if it's your first.
Warrior - A class that depends on equipment a lot, which is hard to keep up to date while leveling, especially when it's your first character. At higher levels this can become a pretty complicated class to play, lots of fun, but it needs lots of work too.

Other than that;
Shaman - Starts out fairly boring, but slowly gains more and more tools, becoming more fun at later levels. Though all the different things could be overwhelming at first.
Rogue - Really just needs two proper weapons to function, if you get the hang of it fast it's pretty easy to play, but if you don't, prepare to die a lot. Pretty repetitive qua leveling.
Priest - I honestly haven't leveled a priest, but friends who have were often bored while doing so. Especially at low levels you'll spend a lot of time and mana per enemy.

General tips;

-Thottbot and Wowhead are your friends. These two sites have just about all the info you'll ever need about your character, where to level, what to do next, etc. etc.
Though I wouldn't visit these sites for the first few levels or so if you like figuring things out for yourself.

Social:
-Be polite and respectful to people, they really will like you for it.
-If people are being rude to you for any reason, just ignore them.
-Use grammar and spelling. No one minds a typo, but 'txt language' is generally associated with stupidity.
-Don't ever beg for money, items or equipment, it is extremely annoying.
-Don't spam in any chat but Guild Chat. It's annoying and you'll end up on the ignore list of decent people that you might want to play with.
-Even if others are doing it, and it seems funny at the time, don't spam.
-Seriously, don't.
-If you're lost, read the quest text. If you're still lost, ask politely.

Enjoying the game:
-While leveling, try to find a fun leveling/social guild, you'll have people to help you do hard quests, give you advice, or just randomly chat and have fun with.
-Playing with friends makes the game a lot more fun, if you don't have any real-life friends on your server, try making some friends to play with ingame.
-Having someone to level with makes everything a lot easier, and more fun.
-You will run into jerks every now and then. Don't let it get to you.

Misc:
-Never be afraid to admit that you don't know something. Most people won't mind explaining a boss beforehand, but they will hate you if you kill off the party because you didn't know the tactics.
-It's allright to ask a high-level player for advice, but sometimes they might be too busy to have a chat, respect that and they'll be more likely to make time for you later.
-If you're planning on making a Death Knight, don't, or at least level a different character to 80 first. I won't go into detail as to why, but you'll see.
-Pick two gathering professions (of which one is skinning) and put everything you find on the auction house for some extra income. You'll have plenty of time to focus on other professions later.

-Have fun. Remember that no matter where you end up, doing what. Don't let it end up your second job. You're not playing a game to please others or kill time, you're playing to enjoy yourself,

Throw your phone away, you're not going to need it anymore. Tell your friends how you really feel about them, you won't be seeing them anymore. Somehow make your chair into a toilet so you don't have to get up. Put the fridge next to your computer and have tubes connecting liquidised food directly into your mouth, saving you precious energy wasted on chewing and moving.

Then prepare to be bored to death with the most addicting and shittiest game ever.

In six months you will wonder how you gained so much weight and accomplished so little in your life since you started playing.

If you're dead set on jumping into WoW take it in small doses. I played for 4 years and while it was amazing at first back when I was leveling, when you hit max level things can get repetitive. Fast.

Even with great friends playing with you if you don't take it at a smooth pace you will get bored. And as stated in another earlier post the player base in WoW can be quite shrewd and idiotic. No, idiotic isn't the right word for it - they can take things to a whole new level of stupidity.

I'm not trying to be a complete naysayer; if you want to have a good experience just take it at your own pace. If you get tired of a class, try a different one, experiment, etc.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with it, maybe you'll survive the hell hole longer than some of us did :p

P.S. Shaman were fun.

Have no expectations. Prepare to hate people. Prepare to be bored. I hope you like raiding and or PVP.
I feel the exact same way, be prepared for what your potentially getting yourself in for. I can't believe how much money I wasted on buying the game, it drove me crazy and I didn't play it longer that a month.

Well I'm planning on getting the game World of Warcraft next month so I was wondering if anybody had tips and hints for me. Also advice for how to stick with the game would be awesome sauce. So feel free to post advice and tips for a WoW newbie and your thoughts on how to stick with a game. I have a bunch of WoW addicts for friends so no worries on having to find people to play with.
Don't take the game to seriously. I did that and it lost a lot of its fun, basically just enjoy yourself

Well as anyone can tell you, WoW is the best MMO online today. Lately they've been adding a lot of new features to the game to make it very acessible to new players. The map clearly marks your quest objectives, you can queue for dungoes and group content without the hassle of needing to find players (the engine does that for you, same with Battlegrounds), and all the classes are fun to play once you get used to the playstyle.

PROS: Great environment to see, massive world, fun gameplay, enjoyable community (depending on server) and instant teleporting to and from dungeons to make levelling so much fun. WoW also uses an aged graphics engine, so it runs very well on computers from 2004 and on.

CONS: A class must be played to level 20-25 before you get a real feel for them, classes are not that well balanced (especially early on), once class is locked off until level 55, framerate and lag chugs a lot in heavily populated cities (DaLAGran for the win!).

Reccomdations:

I'd suggest you play a rogue, Paladin, or Hunter. They're not that difficult to play, and great for new players who want to learn the interface and how everything works. Avoid the Warrior, it's designed to be very hard to play, and is geared to very experienced players.
Well my character is a Orc Warrior. I can agree that they are hard because you have to be so specific with them to make them effective. I kinda wanted to play as a paladin but from what I heard they had issues that needed to be worked. Although now that I think about it I cant remember what those were.

Get some friends to play with you. Trust me, I played one month of WOW solo and one with two friends all of us sharing the same quests.

With friends it is much better, no questions. On solo I had to wait after each battle for my health to Regen before going into another fight while with friends we could take a whole room of guys to ourselves.

hi im braveheàrth http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Mal%27Ganis&cn=Bravehe%C3%A0rth

and i play on the server mal'ganis. if you would let me recruit you to wow, i will help you out and be your friend, i will help pay for your mounts and even help you level up with the recruit a friend extra xp while leveling. feel free to pm for more details,

also wow is a fun game, ive bin playing it for years, mal ganis is a pvp server but is horde dominated.

i cant recommend a class, but i recommend you decide what you want to be, a tank a dps or a healer, and pick a class that fits what you want to be.

My main advice for playing WoWcraft is don't. It's dull, time consuming, costly, and overall just not fun.

also for the nay sayers, leveling is alot better now, with random dungeon finders and the ability to get xp through pvp. leveling up in wow is alot better than it has ever bin before. you can get to level 80 with out doing one quest can just stick to battle grounds and dungeons if you choose to, but it is alot of fun to explore as well.

healer break down. i notice you want to heal, druid = mostly heal over times make excelnt raid healers. holy pally = best tank healer, shaman = excellent raid healers with heals that chain to other people. disk priest = shields that prevent damage holy priest = great raid healer.

ive personally bin holy pally restro druid and restro sham, all are a lot of fun, i would say i enjoyed sham and pally the most. restro druid takes a lot more skill to be good at than the other 2 :p not saying im not good at restro druid was my main through most of bc, just complicated and not as fun as just spamming chain heal as a shaman.
