So I'm Going To Pick Up WoW

Well I'm planning on getting the game World of Warcraft next month so I was wondering if anybody had tips and hints for me. Also advice for how to stick with the game would be awesome sauce. So feel free to post advice and tips for a WoW newbie and your thoughts on how to stick with a game. I have a bunch of WoW addicts for friends so no worries on having to find people to play with. I'll be going on the Zulahead? server and I have to be horde.

What do you mean by "how to stick with a game"? It's WoW; if you're like most of the people who play it, you're going to stick with it whether you like it or not.

Best way to stick with the game, especially starting your first character, is to remember:

"The game gets better at 80"

Also, you may want to do a little reading and figure out what character best suits your playstyle. I personally went with a Druid because I found it easier to go solo through the leveling bits of the game, but you might find another class you particularly like.

In the end, WoW's a unique experience in the broader spectrum of gaming. It's an acquired taste, and certainly not for everyone, so if you find you're not fond of the game when you get into 70-75ish, you probably won't be too fond of it past that point.

Well I have an issue with getting really into a game for a few months then just finding it boring.

Contrary to popular belief, he's right. It's hard for some people, for instance, me, to stick to it. I tried reactivating my account on two separate occasions, but found the game itself almost unbearable after the first little while.

My tip? Don't force yourself to like it. If you dislike, find some way to get your money back. And the game doesn't start until you've hit the level cap.

Now now, as a community based around a website dedicated to gaming in all its manifestations, should we really be so quick to condemn someone for selecting a game that we personally may feel is "inferior" or "odd"?

It's getting really disheartening to see all this rabid hatred toward not only WoW, but MMO's in general, when there's clearly a legitimate market for them. Can't we just direct all this hate at the rising pseudo-game market dominated by Zynga?

Well I have lots of WoW addicts for friends and my one friend said he'd level with me and get me to level 40 on like the first day I got it. As far as character's go I'm not really too sure. Since I have friends though so I doubt I'll have to solo I'll probably roll a healer

Well It's more like instead of actually playing the game I'll just sit around and talk to people. I still enjoy it but at the same time I don't get a sense of accomplishment from it.

Before starting peruse the forums and look for someone to do Refer-A-Friend with. Also look for a good guild.

OT: The game is quite fun with a unique expierience, I just got bored because my friend was no longer playing, and no one wanted to raid in my guild, so all in all get a few good companions

It's good that you've got friends to level with. I used to play with my brother (God rest him), and having him help pull me through some of the content when I couldn't bear through it (Druid humor, sorry) made the entire experience faster and more enjoyable.

Again, as to all the rabid hatred of WoW, I don't understand it. So you pay a little every month to play the game, so what? I would argue that the amount of content you get out of it is not only worth the price, but a fair shake more than you'll get out of one of your precious Half-Life disks (I'm guessing here, but most of the people on here have a huge hard-on for Valve and Half-Life in particular).

Just because you don't like it, doesn't make it bad or not a game. What makes it bad if it's nothing more than a flash animation run on Facebook.

So what would you reccomend class wise. As far as interests go I want a class fairly easy to pick up and I'd prefer to be a healer. Tanking is a no-no for me and I love being a caster.

Find people to play with (RL friends or a good guild), play in moderation, and remember that over half the game is played at the level cap. If you can afford the time and money to get to the level cap, do so before you pass judgement on the game, unless you just can't stand to play it.
