Still, expect the music to be very loud, and the people around you to be even louder
Concerts are great fun, you'll get past whatever worries you in there while you're singing along at the top of your lungs
and don't think you won't, it's very hard not to in a good concert.

The first real concert I went to was a Bob Dylan concert with my dad when I was 14. It was loud, and there were a lot of REALLY high middle-aged people. The only concerts I've been to have been for bands and performers from my parents generation: Beach Boys, Credence Clearwater, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, some sort of ABBA revival band. Not only did I grow up listening to their music instead of current music, but bands from before the 80's are the only ones that don't automatically include strobes in their performances, which is important for me.
Generally, the biggest problem I've had at concerts is that they'll turn the giant speakers up so high you can't hear the words or the music, just the noise. The most aggressive I've ever seen a concert get was this adorable middle-aged mosh pit thing by the stage for CCR.

First one I was at was the Blue Oyster Cult.
First metal show I was at was Mayhem Fest 2008.
Expect moshpits, but don't be afraid to be near them.

So just as the title says, I'm going to my first concert EVER. In Flames is playing here in Norway and I am really looking forward to it and I'm kinda nervous too, I really hate crowded spaces. But I'm going with a friend so thats good I guess.

So for the discussion value.. Was your first concert experience any good? Did you like it\not like it? Why? Do you go to concerts often? Did something awesome happen?

My first ever gig was Motorhead with In Flames on support. I was 16, and it was amazing.
Only downside was I was quite small at the time and got pushed around a lot, didn't enjoy that aspect so much.

These days I'm a hell of a lot bigger and spend my time at gigs running around shirtless, drunk and screaming a lot. I do the pushing now!!

I love concerts My 1st concert was Joan Jet and def leppoard when I was a wee 9 year old. I can honestly say I was a horrible addition to the crowd. The last concert I went to was Danzig and Devil driver, which was badass, and that was in the summer. My advice to you for your first concert is let loose. Throw up the horns and yell or sing along if you want, no one will judge you so just have a great time. Slightly on topic Korn is coming to town and I don't have enough cash to go

First one I went to was White Stripes when I was 16, I really enjoyed it. Concerts are great fun, whether you drink or not. Get up the front, or not too close, if you don't like mosh pits and the like. Best thing to remember is not to let people push you around, or you'll lose a good spot, but don't push back too much or someone may try to start a fight.
I've seen Queens of the Stone Age, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Billy Talent, Linkin Park, and many more since then. I actually prefer smaller concerts to big ones. Some of the best concerts I've been to, have been for Irish bands who aren't that famous.

My one and only, Alice Cooper and Iron Maiden in Helsinki, wasn't quite as I expected. I was surprised over how... "empty" the place was while Cooper was on stage, it felt more like a party. Then, later when Iron Maiden stepped up, it was crowded, while Iron Maiden themselves were good, the music was really enjoyable, it was really annoying just standing there with a bunch of drunks shouting "MAIDEN! MAIDEN! MAIDEN!"... While I don't regret it, I was really happy to get out of there.

Also, wont go to another concert unless it's to score with a really hot girl or if Elvis rise from the grave.

well when I was nine I went to nickelback. I guess it was okay for the time, as for heavy metal concerts just expect to be pushed often and your ears to ring for the rest of the night. Have much Fun!

Ring nothing. I went to a Blind Guardian concert near Boston and by the end of the night I was almost completely deaf for an hour. Nothing below the decible level of a gunshot going off next to my face registered, lol.


OP: Make sure you drink something. I didn't drink anything during the concert and I don't think I've ever been so fucking thirsty in my entire life. I went to the nearest mini-mart and bought 4 liters of water and they were gone in about 20 minutes.

As for experiences, it was tons of fun. I met up with a bunch of my guildmates from WoW. Many of us had never met IRL but we shared a similar taste in music so we decided to go for it.

I went to see Kaizer's Orchestra when I was ten or something. I don't remember much of it.
I'm not much of a concert person really.
Apparently, half the reason people go to concerts is to be social, and that's just not really something I'm good at.

First concert was a local band in a run down basement when I was fifteen. The band wasn't actually all that great but since it was one of my first times getting quite hammered it made things much more interesting.
Since then, the craziest concert I've ever had the occasion to see would be the Cat Empire. Both the band and the crowd went absolutely nuts. Otherwise I've also enjoyed Sigur Ros (much much calmer), Parov Stelar Band, Stupeflip... many others as well but these are the really memorable ones.

Apparently, half the reason people go to concerts is to be social, and that's just not really something I'm good at.

Well those people are silly!

Anyway, hope you really enjoy it, concerts are one of the funnest things to do.

In Flames is amazing live! I've seen them twice here in the states. If you don't like crowds, you will probably want to hang out to the sides or rear, definitely not near the pit. I guess I don't know what it's like over there, but here once you get behind the mosh pit, people tend to be less pushy, though it will still be pretty crowded unless you go to the very back.

OT: I am a self described "concert whore" since I go to as many as I can. My first concert was Flogging Molly, and it was a blast. It would have been better, but the act before them had a pretty big mishap where their guitarist passed out and we had to wait forever for Flogging Molly, but I got a t-shirt! Now I can go 2-3 weeks without ever wearing the same band shirt twice.

This has been a great experience..
I was right in the middle of the room , so now I know what one of those pits feels like. And In Flames can REALLY entertain people. Not sure how other bands does, but In Flames was really good. Some unlucky (lucky?) girl lend her mobilephone to the vocalist so he could film with it, but instead he looked at her text messages and read them out loud

And some lucky dude got dragged on to the stage by the vocalist so he could film the band and the audience with his mobilephone and he also got a free t-shirt..

And btw thanks for the earplug and water tips, really helped alot
