As someone who only went to his first concert last year I can tell you right now that you're gonna love it, especially if you enjoy the band and are going with a friend.

I've only ever been to two though. For the first, a friend of mine took me out to see Avenged Sevenfold, very loud, very hot and very agressive but a lot of fun (even if I only knew a few of the songs :s). The second was actually just a few weeks ago, where I saw Elbow at the Hordern Pavillion here in Sydney (let's just say they're a lot more...mellow than A7X). They're my favourite current band so I think I enjoyed it a lot more because I was able to sing along with them and my love for their music meant I fangasmed when they actually came out on stage (I even shook Guy Garvey's hand :D).

Considering you're seeing a heavy metal band I'd reccomend not making the mistake I did my first time of wearing a jumper (I was so hot at the end of the night I basically had to farewell my friend then run into a nearby Chinese restaurant to buy a then hastily-downed bottle of water), and depending on how devoted you are to the band/how many people you think will be there I'd reccomend getting in line a few hours before it begins in order to get a good position up front. And for the love of God try as best you can to stick with your friend, because before you know it you'll both be seperated in the mosh-pit and won't see each other until the end of the night.

Headbanging: Check
Shouting: Check
Alot of pushing: Check
Awesome music: Check
Some dude with broken nose: Check
Had a really good time: Check

This has been a great experience..
I was right in the middle of the room , so now I know what one of those pits feels like. And In Flames can REALLY entertain people. Not sure how other bands does, but In Flames was really good. Some unlucky (lucky?) girl lend her mobilephone to the vocalist so he could film with it, but instead he looked at her text messages and read them out loud :p

And some lucky dude got dragged on to the stage by the vocalist so he could film the band and the audience with his mobilephone and he also got a free t-shirt..

And btw thanks for the earplug and water tips, really helped alot :)
Sounds great, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

My first gig was Marilyn Manson during his Antichrist Superstar tour (you know, back when he was good) at Nottingham Rock City with Pist.on supporting.

One of the best experiences of my life, I got so drunk before the gig and was down in the crowd when he came on. He opened with "Angel With The Scabbed Wings", people started bouncing, I went down. People helped me up, people bounced, I went down again. I must have pissed so many people off that night, but I soon got used to it.

Been a fan of live music since then, this year I am going to see The Lost Prophets at the end of the month, Download Festival in June, Blink 182 in July and Leeds Festival in August. And hopefully at some point The Joy Formidable will remember they have British fans and come back to do a tour. I don't go down the front any more though, I'd rather just stand somewhere in the middle with a beer and enjoy the music without getting trampled.
