Wait... people are actually mad about this? I don't think Alduin's going to hold a gun to your head and force you to sign adoption papers...
now that would be worth a download - Skyrim: The Divorce Settlement... :D
The child and a portion of your gold vanish every week and when the kid comes back, they tell you how much cooler their other parent is. Fun times!

There's a few mods that allow your character to have relationships with the child inhabitants of Skyrim. Leave it to the modders to be two steps ahead of the developers :p
I hope you mean strictly parent/child relationships and not... well... eh.

I haven't seen anything but nord kids in skyrim... my horrendously racist Orc would have to be VERY drunk to get himself in this mess.

And, what kind of parent will you be?

Since my character, Oslo, is a cold-blooded murderer, who does both good deeds and bad, I am going to raise my kid to be just like me, in as many ways possible.

Daddy's little angel <3
Do you have a source for this or is it speculation? I thought 1.6 was only adding Mounted Combat.

Nope.

As consumers we should have opinions about the entertainment we buy. It's ok when people ***** about a movie sequel being shitty and it's ok when it happens in games too. In the case of free content, I don't see the difference. Bethesda is making a well loved RPG series into an action adventure simulation game so you can imagine that loyal fans (until now) would be bothered.

Bethesda is chasing the casual crowd with Skyrim and the WoW crowd with their MMO. I am not part of either crowd and I would bet that many previous TES fans aren't either.

On the plus side, maybe my Sims loving girlfriend will play Skyrim now, make it worth the $60.
Well, I see this as a huge overreaction, personally. They're allowing you to adopt kids if you want - and? You don't want to do it, then don't do it, let the people who do want it have it. Play the rest of the game instead. If you don't like the rest of the game, fine, complain about that all you want, but it seems a bit pointless to then also complain about a little free update you won't be playing anyway.

Of course, I've seen and met IRL plenty of TES fans who like Skyrim. Being able to adopt a child doesn't strike me as being overly sim-ish either - just another thing you can do with the character you're building if you think it seems like the kind of thing they'd do.

really couldn't care less.
I'm much more interested in something like martigens or oscuros being done for skyrim. I ignore the children, I don't even notice their existence really.

No interest... Whelp that was easy. Should I be more outraged? I don't like playing as Rogues in RPGs, should I be upset that other people are playing the game differently than I am?
Yes! Totally ruins your experience.

Well, there's those, but I was referring to the other form of relationship. I'd say sexual, but that seems really shallow. Come to think of it... what do you call such a relationship? I consider myself a philosopher and I've never thought about this, lol. Well, damn.

.. Huh, it's not the question of 'how' adopting a kid works but rather 'where' you adopt the kid. If you can adopt one of the kids at the Riften Orphanage .. uh, yeah that would be trouble cause see I killed Grelod the Kind so wonder if it's still possible to take a kid. Would be hilarious if each kid was cheap to buy... wait that's sad actually because then no one bothered checking in or adopting any of the kids. What the crap.
I like that you use the term "cheap to buy" while commenting on how said it is, lol.

Oh no, you can adopt kids! How will we ever cope with this new, optional feature! That's gamer logic for you. If you have the option of doing something, you're forced to do it.

I doubt I'll use the feature, but hopefully those who want it have fun with it.

Fixed that for you.

Also...I don't get what the big deal is with the guys who complain. You can marry, and there are mods to have children. Now you have the completely optional choice to get children without other mods. It's not like you have to. But...wait, I suppose you're right - it's piece of content definitely not for this game. In fact, I'll immediately petition Bethesda to remove houses and marriage - it just gets in my way of killing stuff. I think I can live without cities, too. In fact, they should have just made the game a giant dungeon and that's it.
I'm with this guy, it's optional if you don't like then don't visit the orphanage and stop complaining. I myself won't be getting a kid, unless I decide to roleplay a neglectful never home adventuring father but I don't see why people who would want one shouldn't be able to.

Dont know if it will be possible but I want a little Kahjit kid. I will call it `Kitten`. :)
I think they need to worry about adding Kahjiit spouses first.

Source?

If it's true, could be pretty cool if it's done right, it'd be interesting to see what my characters do with a child. Maybe raise them as an assassin?

Hey, if they have save-tranferring in the next game, wouldn't be cool if you could play as the son/daughter of your skyrim character?

I came into Skyrim to kill bad guys, not start an orphanage..
Well, obviously they gave you too much stuff. And as I said, I don't get what the big deal is - the only reasonable explanations I see are that either people are raging about having the option for a choice which is somehow bad (especially considering it's an ES game) or you will be forced to adopt a child in the expansion, thus reducing your choice. Which one is it?

You fail to see that i never said I was with or against it.. All i said was exactly what i want to do.

I'm a dinosaur, your argument is invalid.

Go back and play Morrowind or even Oblivion before you exaggerate.
Hey look, i've played and enjoyed them all the way back to daggerfall!

You're still overreacting. I mean people said the house thing was silly in oblivion when people in morrowind were killing people in houses they liked and taking it for themselves.

Now they're developing a feature you neither have to use, nor even download and you're complaining. You don't even have the "they took development time away from the game" argument to stand on, because they finished it.

They should have never put in kids to begin with, if the only people in Skyrim are a) between 8 and 12 years old and b) over 30 years old.

And especially since the kids will likely STILL be annoying as piss and impossible to remove (in the console versions).

May I remind all of you who are crying out in despair that no will be forcing you to actually USE this mechanic?

Although I do have to wonder why Bethesda is taking ques from Peter Molyneux. *shrug*

anc[is]Don't you mean you can adopt that one kid, since there is only one child in Skyrim. It's just everywhere
Kind of like Juju in Morrowind. It actually started getting creepy when I noticed she was showing up at every inn I went to.

Edit: Derp, never mind, just found out its because of a mod I have.
