I once didn't eat for thirty hours for charity. I didn't like it, but it wasn't unbearable. But you were given lots of liquids to drink.

EDIT: I apologize to anyone of Muslim decent for speaking on such a matter like i'm an expert. If you could better teach me on the subject I would be more than happy to learn.
Read my posts above :)

Also, not to sound rude but please do not refer to Muslims as someone of "Muslim descent" since Muslim is a follower of Islam and not a race. The followers of Islam include all races (including black people, Asians, and white Europeans).

The Muslims at my school (which there is only 2 I know of) are actually being a bit annoying with their Ramadan. They complain that we (non-Muslims, that is) shouldn't be allowed to eat during Ramadan in their presence because it makes them upset, annoyed, jealous, whatever.

I mean, really? Why should we not be allowed to eat when we don't follow their religion? People complain that Christians force their religion on people, but I've never been hounded the same way by Christians as I have by these two in the last 2 days.

By the way, it may look like I'm raging towards Muslims, but I'm not, it's just these two individuals that are currently pissing me off. You can practice whatever you want, I don't care. Just don't tell when I can or can't take care of my biological needs.
You need to remind your Muslim friends what RAMADAN is about. It is where they refrain from eating to teach them patience, spirituality, and celibacy. In essence they are actually breaking the laws of their entire religion by acting in such a way towards you during Ramadan.

People are so blinded by what they are now a days they forget the meaning behind why they are doing it. It makes me sick.
I'm not even sure if they're "true" Muslims, to be honest. I've ever read the Koran (Qu'ran?), but is there something in there about smoking and swearing? Because they do these two a lot.
Next time they do talk to me about it though, I will remind them of what you have said. Thanks for the info.
Definitely! If I saw them saying stuff like that and complain then I would definitely give them a reality check on what Ramadan is all about. Message me if you got questions :)

This actually made me laugh a bit. They must be wimps if they can't stand seeing other people eat. I sat in the lunch room (surrounded by hundreds of kids eating) with my friends during Ramadan and I had no problem at all.

Why do you have to fast?
Why do we fast? For many reasons:
First of all, the not eating/drinking barely scratches the surface about what Ramadan is all about. This a month that is suppose to get us away from our routine lives and have us do something different, and preferably be more spiritual even if it's just for the month. It's also a reminder of the starving people around the world with a focus on appreciating everything we have. We refrain from eating to learn patience, spirituality, and basically increase our discipline. Also this is the month where the Holy Qur'an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad. That's some of the explanation, I can go into more detail if you wish.
Should go camping...

Thought so. I'll send you PM with a question or two. This topic's got me to thinking.

I usually go 18-24 hours without eating at least once a week. I don't do it for any religious reason or anything, I just forget. Yes, my memory really sucks.

I intensely enjoy eating while in the immediate presence of muslims during ramadan.

Anyone else want an EpicMealTime ramadan edition?

Just not eating would be simple enough. Unpleasant but it's not exactly some massive feat of willpower either. The lack of water however would be a quick path to a hospital bed. Being out under the sun doing physical labour for 10-12 hours a day, and temperatures 35C-50C (That's 95 to 122 for the Americans). I've done the heatstroke thing before, not keen to do it again

Eh people kept saying it'll be hard this year but for me it isn't any different really. I think it is because I always saw lunch as the most expendable meal and skipped it regularly.

I still work full time, the only difference is that the place I work at lets off fasting people 30 minutes earlier. Which is great because it lets me avoid the usual traffic I get stuck into lol.

Please do! I would love if there was an epic meal for us during Ramadan. It would give us great ideas for what we can eat before the fast starts and after the fast ends.

I know you weren't trying to be nice with your post but the epic meal time thing actually sounds like a good idea.

No offense, but that seems really fucking stupid.

This kind of nonsense is why all religions should burn in hell.

Seriously... this kind of stuff is bad for your health, impacts on your work (how many people are going to be operating at peak efficiency on disturbed sleep while sitting there starving) and, when the multiculturalist retards start screaming that nobody else around can eat because it "might offend" those who are fasting, it's time to pack this rubbish back into the stone age where it belongs.

Personally, you wouldn't catch me dead doing it (and not just because I view religion as a tool of oppression), but because I've had two kidney-stones in the past. I go through in excess of 4 litres of water a day. Not drinking (and therefore not cleaning out the kidneys) would be guaranteed to give me another one.

Find me one (non-religious) health professional that will confirm that starving yourself 18 hours a day for a month is good for your health, and I'll take it back. Until then... I'll stick to my opinion of religion.
Riiiiiight, because any and all belief in a higher power must be stupid, right?

OT: I've tried fasting before and spending that time reading the bible. I felt like it was a good experence for me. I'm a non-denominational christian, so we really don't do lent.

I'm pretty sure smoking is allowed by Muslim religious law, but not drinking alcohol and probably not swearing. I'm not an expert, though.

I know a few Muslims, I respect the reasoning behind the practice and unlike the inevitable voice that will shout "that's just stupid, you shouldn't do that," I wont deny people their traditions or beliefs.

Having played cricket with Muslims before though, it's inevitable that during Ramadan their performance will suffer, not really an issue on club level but I can see how it might impact professional teams in non-Islamic nations.

You speak the truth good sir. There are sayings (and even Quranic verses) against smoking but not anything serious, I've known many in my faith who smoke; ever heard of a hookah? That's from the Middle east. As for swearing, the Qur'an often talks against foul languages and strongly emphasizes eloquent and polite speech but it's not exactly taboo (i curse sometimes but it's very rare). Alcohol is one of the few things that Islam teaches to stay away from.

From what I understand from a friend, no, no you are not.
Yep, but otherwise smoking is not a taboo in Islam; it's just recommended not to do it for obvious reasons.

How is this humanely possible in some areas of the world? My friend does roofing in Florida, the temperatures on top of that roof reach over 120* on some days. You're wearing jeans and a short sleeve shirt. You would be cooked alive if you were't allowed to consume water. I could see going a while without water if you didn't do outdoor labor intensive work, but clearly not everyone can do this. Maybe that's why I don't know any Muslim construction workers.

Switching my sleep cycles I could get through without noticing. Hell, yesterday Breakfast and Dinner were the same meal.

Perhaps, but at least now I can relate when I see people that are starving!
