I'm going to use that(modified) as my description of furries from now on.Cheesepower5 said:EDIT: To specify on "Furries", I mean the ones who use anthropomorphic forms of various animals. The ones that look like people, but with more hair and funny noses.
Because it's cute or because the shoulders (and presumably the rest of it) are uncovered?Radoh said:Who's got a furry avatar? Do you mean mine too? The only one I've seen is VampireCat and I rather like her avatar.
Then you and I have differing opinions on this, no reason to get up in arms here.Samechiel said:...and why are they always like, neon green cartoon cat people with hot pink leopard spots and rainbow wings?I think what gets me is that people are somehow attracted to cartoon cat people.
What the hell kind of sense does that make?
The hell it is. Anthropomorphic =/= furry. Bugs bunny is not furry, Anubis is not furry, Sly Cooper is not furry.VG Cats is a furry comic
Are you asking why I like it? If that's the case I like it because it's cute and well drawn.Freechoice said:Because it's cute or because the shoulders (and presumably the rest of it) are uncovered?Radoh said:Who's got a furry avatar? Yep. I also peruse reputable sites and see the same stuff. I see the word "mated" rather than "in a relationship". Even on this site. There is something wrong with that.Radoh said:Perhaps you peruse less than reputable sites?
And there are people like me who measure their self worth on the forums by how often they get quoted. I'm not entirely sure weather I'm joking or not. OP: I too have noticed the disturbing smile... perhaps they're trying on purpose to freak people out? That's the only explanation I can think for it.Radoh said:Oh, and it is generally considered to be in poor taste to use quotes without quoting who said it, as they don't get the notification for it.
But the stare is still incredibly creepy. -_-Bags159 said:Don't worry OP, my animal avatar isn't smiling!
Sir, are you implying that I am some form of... furryist?SL33TBL1ND said:I've never noticed it myself. But maybe you're just predisposed to thinking they're weird.
It doesn't offer anything based on your definition of furry culture. It appears that my views on this is a differing opinion on this topic so if it comes down to it you should probably ignore it.Custard_Angel said:Yep. As for VG Cats... What's your point?
It's a comic with cats instead of people. It's furry in nature but it provides next-to-zero comment on furry culture.
Probably because most of "furry culture" are just people perusing the internet with a strange fascination.Custard_Angel said:Yep. I also peruse reputable sites and see the same stuff. I see the word "mated" rather than "in a relationship". Even on this site. There is something wrong with that.

Furries aren't big on character depthCheesepower5 said:I don't personally know anybody who identifies as a furry, but whenever I see a person with a furry for an avatar, I see one constant.
That smile. Every damn furry picture has it, the same creepy(in my opinion, anyways) smile. So can anyone tell me what that's all about or is it just some unknown trend that isn't going away any time soon.
EDIT: To specify on "Furries", I mean the ones who use anthropomorphic forms of various animals. The ones that look like people, but with more hair and funny noses.
I do believe it is because they are trying to convey a human smile over a feline or canine muzzle and it doesn't quite fit right. I do agree that it can be unsettling at times.Cheesepower5 said:Okay, I found the particular user that sparked me to ask this question... http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/PatSilverFox
I don't want to single him out, so "PatSilverFox", if you're out there please don't take offense at my using your avatar as an example. It's just the least traumatizing way for me to get my point across. And if you do read this, maybe you have the answer to my question.

I dare say you have insulted my honour, and I challenge you to a duel.
How does it feel to be wrong in every bit of your post? I would go further as to why but I'm posting from a phone and its very tiring to type with my thumbs.Samechiel said:...and why are they always like, neon green cartoon cat people with hot pink leopard spots and rainbow wings?I think what gets me is that people are somehow attracted to cartoon cat people.

I know what you mean, if someone's quoting you it makes you feel relevant, whether the quote is for good or ill, you've said something worth discussing.FeralCentaur said:And there are people like me who measure their self worth on the forums by how often they get quoted.
