Morbid Angel and Dismember. Representative of the US and Swedish sound respectively. Be sceptical of that which is referred to as death metal these days.

All I know of is a kick-arse Deathcore band named The Black Dahlia Murder. They do some really great songs.

Ahaha cheers, although I feel as if my list is still lacking. Ah well, I've been listening to more Progressive stuff lately, it's awesome music.

Yes. Since when was Bring Me The Horizon a death metal band?

Anyway, if you're into 'progressive' metal that is pretty experimental and goes on for a bloody long time, then I'd recommend Between the Buried and Me. Pretty accessible if you like hardcore. If you're not, then the vocals aren't too grating either. I'd say this is more hardcore with death metal influences though. I believe that's what 'deathcore' is, actually.

Insomnium is another good one. Swallow the Sun, too. They're fairly melodic and they remind me a bit of...I don't know, Ensiferum, or Wintersun or something. Both of those are also good bands, by the way.

And if you're feeling particularly adventurous, there's also Meshuggah. To be honest, most of the 'death metal' bands that I know of are really some other variation of metal, with vocals that typically would be more common with death metal bands. Don't limit yourself with genres, they're just names after all. You'd probably have more luck just listening to metal in general, and figuring out what kind of sound you like best.

Yeah, I don't go on The Escapist as much as I used to anymore, and I usually stay out of the Metal threads as they often have like 50-100 responses by the time I get to them and all the bands I was going to list have already been mentioned.

Add Decapitated to the list while we're at it. I've only heard Spheres of Madness by them and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Good on you for trying Death Metal out. All the good bands I know have already been mentioned... so it would be redundant for me to repeat them.
