I'll put a disc in and it'll load for about 5 seconds before saying "Open tray" on the main dashboard, it just won't do it with any game. Does anybody know how to solve this?

Maybe it got bored of Final Fantasy XIII >_>

First check you're not putting the disk in upside down.

Ok? you've got it the right way? Hmm well I guess that means Rhombus is right, sounds like your drive is buggered

Well if it only does it for one specific disk then there's the possibility that the disk is buggered not the drive... With the cost of optical drives these days Vs the cost of games, I think having a buggered drive is the cheaper fix.

my 360 does the same thing sometimes. i just keep opening and closing the tray until it finally reads. this often takes a few minutes and a few power ons/offs.

its monotonous and might not work with you, but it seems to work with me.

I had the same problem.

The problem was 'solved' when the 360 RRoD'd. Apparently it was really dusty inside, and that buggered everything up.

Now I have a Slimline.

Yeah. Xbox 360s are temperamental little things.

Xbox 360s remind me of my ex girlfriends. One second, all they want is for you to play with them and give them all your attention, and the next they shut down and stop talking to you and won't tell you why until you figure out what you did wrong.

Try a lens cleaning disc before you send it in for repairs, those things are really useful.

It's a 360. of course it breaking. It wouldn't be authentic if parts of it didn't stop working.

ok mine does the same thing sometimes what u have to do is take the disc out then when the tray is out on the xbox is on push the tray back in quite quickly then immediately turn it off and u will hear it buzzing for a second or so. Then just turn it back on normally and it should be fine. That always makes mine work again

I have this problem, basically the laser is jarred and needs resetting I think.

Step 1 - Turn on the Xbox with a disc in.

Step 2 - When the Xbox is all loaded up and whatever, open the disc tray with the eject button, take the disc out and immediatly slam the tray shut and turn the xbox off, you should hear a little noise which is the laser resetting. (Yes, Slam it shut, it will make a crying noise but its all good)

Step 3 - Turn your Xbox on, open the tray, put a game in and see what happens, It should be fixed!

I hope I could help :D

Yeah, I have this problem occasionally. My Xbox refuses to recognise discs every now and then, I find that a dvd cleaning disc works just fine.

[sub]Well, that or repeated swearing. Xboxes can hear you. They understand threats.[/sub]

this happened to me, i got the thing to the shop on the very last day the warrenty was good. literaly a half hour later and i'd be £100 down.

i think they said it was the laser, in future i'd advise you don't leave discs in it when it's off, i haven't left a disc in it for about 2 years now and it's fine.

hmm, sounds like a 360 working exactly like it's designed to, badly.
[/cynacism]

Fo cereal tho, that's a pain in the arse. RhombusHatesYou is probably right, your disc drive is probably scratching game discs in heaven now.
In all honesty, I'm not a fanboy of PS3 or PC, tho I own both. Anyone who has a fuck-up with their console is a comrade to me, as my brother's old PS3 kicked the bucket about a year ago and my PC is still coughing up blood from the last virus it got.

To quote Yahtzee, "The Wii is a yappy energetic little thing, great with kids but a bit overbearing, the PS3 is a lumbering black beast that's a bit slow, but will always lovingly bring you your slippers each morning and the 360 is a grood all rounder that only occasionally pisses itself and dies."

this happens to me all the time do the following

1. blow in the disc drive (oldd superstitions die hard)
2. take out hard drive and reconnect, make sure it is really connected
3. just keep putting discs in, for me orginal xbox games always work to get it aligned so try that
4. after you are done, for the time being, take out the discs after you are done with them.
