I just got it back XD..I was half asleep and noticed my phone beeping, I checked it, and it had an Email from my account mentioning a password change, I closed it then went to go check my Email, but this email was nowhere to be found, and a new adress had been added as a secondary to my account, so Im assuming they got into my Email ( I was enough of a retard to have the password for WoW and my email to be the same) and deleted it, I couldnt get into my account, so I filled out a form on their website, answered the recovery question, got the account back, changed my password for my WoW account and Email.

So thats the basic part of it, I had no idea what was really going on but I did all of this for security reasons, I havnt played in months but was thinking of starting up again.
Now heres the interesting part, when I went to go tinker with the launcher, it let me log in, my account ran out of time 4 days ago, it turns out it had a gamestop pre paid card added to it 20 minutes ago, sure enough, I log in and all my characters are standing by mailboxes half naked, about 40% of their gear vendored.

So..I could be wrong, but I think I logged in on him WHILE he was looting me. and as a side effect, ninjad his pre paid card. And when I reclaimed the account, it also filed an item recovery ticket to get all my stuff back, so that's probly gonna be resolved in a few days too.

I know that you guys probly don't care about my personal life or warcraft for that matter, but Im just happy as hell thinking of this hacker stomping around in anger and how he just got owned. :p (Totally just jinxed myself, watch it got powerhacked again tommorow.)

Same thing happened to me! I had a about 2 months free, the stupid hacker added extra months every time the account lapsed, was he saying sorry?

Never said a word to me, I tried contacting the Email that I found to see if they knew anything, but I wasn't exactly suprised that nobody replied.

Are you sure that it was a pre-paid game time? Absolutely sure?

I would hate to think that these crooks would saddle you with having to clean up a mess if they used a stolen credit card (people who give these jokers their CC to buy gold with, are you fucking stupid or something?)

Helping people who have been keylogged/phished is one of the better things Blizzard does. Of course if they had made the decision 4 years ago to ban buyers then they might have saved themselves a fortune..but that is hindsight.

I was amazingly lucky the only time I got hacked. For some reason, they never logged in to a single character, and thus never stole a thing.

Funny that Blizz got you your stuff back, sometimes they don't. I guess time is a factor.

Yeah I went and checked my payment history right when I got the account back, it was a world of warcraft 30 prepaid days card from Gamestop.

That's quite amazing. Basically the only one who has been damaged here is the hacker. Serves him right.

Great =D

Well in that case, thanks for giving me a chuckle this morning! I am sure some gold selling scum is having a bit of a froth at how unfair it is that he lost his pre-paid card.

I believe the rule is that you have to report having your account stolen within 14 days and while they don't guarantee restoration they will try. Essentially, if their logs cannot prove that you owned an item then you can't have it back and their logs are kept for a limited time,

Among other things, he also seemed to have had about an extra 6000 gold..and like an additional 2000 gold worth of pets and trade goods. they use your friggin characters as trade bots. Oh, I just went and checked the payment history again, and it actually was listed as "30 day Gamecard (Online Store), 15 bucks. I must have been so tired I misread it. Think its worth contacting blizzard to report that? As much as I love the free month, I would rather pay for it myself then get banned for taking his XD.

If you get hacked, then you're an idiot. I've played WoW for over 4 years and 13000 hours with 6 accounts and I never got hacked once, why? Because i used common sense. Heres a helping page for you to read:

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44525

My tips and preferences are: SpywareBlaster, CrapCleaner, Comodo Firewall, AVG, Secondary scanners like Malwarebites/Spybot, a decent Router, use Mozilla or google chrome or opera in replacement of IE(im using opera atm cause mozilla is slow as like 5 sec delay on mouse overs), have your passwords 16 letters(how i make mine is faceroll my keyboard and memorise it, like this password 8g7kd94502hd7cn2) update everything if possible like it says there for java. Other things to remember are common sense like what websites you view, what files you open, and other really dumb things like auto saving passwords and credit cards and clicking on adds. And dont forget to be tidy with your programs your registry and your startup list which can be cleaned with crapcleaner as some may oppose a threat or open a way for virus's to take advantage of your computer.

Oh and btw i kept the same password for the entire time i played WoW and still didn't get hacked.

Even the mass amounts of torrents i get with trojans 'if any' fail to succeed... If you're unsure on a file try scanning it with all anti-virus's after updating of course. But then again you could get super lucky and be like a 1 in 10 billion and get a new virus that no one knows of yet. But as if that would happen haha lol... . .

Anyways thats my tips

EDIT: Btw Blizzard emails can be totally imitated by fakes and bots to log your account details and steal your wow account. they can even mask the ip address that it was sent from so it looks legit tho it really isn't. SO in otherwords just ignore all blizzard emails, they wont email you unless you made a account information change for example. if they seriously had a problem/or you did, just use phone contact.

Reminds me of what happened to my friend his account got hacked ? most likely to do the old gear sell ? but in the end the guy took hardly anything but completed all his quests for him and lv up his professions - we like to think that the hacker logged in and then felt sorry for him.
